can people stop comparing laine to mathews? they're two completely different kinds of players. mathews is the franchise player who could do it all which is what the LEAFS needed. the jets already had that in mark scheifele. laine is that sniper who with proper playmakers, can score 50 plus goals in a season. you see, two completely different breeds of players. tbh, the real rivalry will be mathews vs mcdavid.

Really is an unbelievable talent. The last couple drafts have been a window into the future of the next generation of NHL superstars.
The guy can just shoot. Can just power that puck past guys even when they can clearly see it coming. That takes a certain kind of talent. No doubt he'll be crucial to Winnipeg finally taking steps forward and becoming a regular playoff team in the West.

What is mathews then Have. In almost every statistic Laine was better. If Matthews plays ten games more than Laine and gets a couple of points a season more, does it mean that he is better. No. I do not mean that I would not like Matthews but what I'm trying to say is that Matthews was not the only player in Toronto who led the team far. I think Laine and Matthews are just as good another just better in a different area
Besides, Laine does not need a Backström-like passer because he can shoot even the worst passes. He will prosper with bad passer.

Don't get me wrong Iaine is an amazing player and will be for long time but Matthews went first for a reason. I am not saying this because I am a leaf fan It is called the truth. Matthews is better then Laine and if you disagree then go ahead but I am still going to talk about why he is better in fact il let the season speak for it self. Auston Matthews scored 4 goals in his NHL debut laine had 1. Matthews ended the season with more goals assists and points. And he led his team to the 2017 NHL playoffs. Did laine lead his team? No! So there you have it Matthews is better. But laine did have 3 hatricks.

ArneRäikkönen are you sure about that besides Goaltending Jets have the more experienced team Wheeler, Buff, little, Scheifele, list goes on even Ehlers is more experienced then Nylander by a small margin the Jets were supposed to be this good team this year and never did. Matthews along with Marner and Nylander led a team filled with Rookies to the playoffs Laine couldn't get a good experienced team in.
You are right, Matthews was better. Just him scoring 4 goals i the 1st, and Laine 1 is not relevant.
Like also that Laine scored 3 hatricks. These are spectacular for highlights, but it's more of a marathon,
than a 100 meters dash. In that, Matthews won. But it was a tight game. I'm happy they didn't end up in exactly same points, or Laine scoring 1 more, and Matthews being chosen as the rookie of the year after that.
Now it's fair and simple, that Matthews wins, after getting a few points win.
Let's see later, how their game developes. Matthews has the potential to become a Crosby or alike. Laine is so young, his game can develope much more versatile yet - usually kids under 20 years are there basically just for their speed and/or scoring skills, or for a powerful build. Who waits them to be mature enough to be leaders, even A shirts?

No he isnt, Matthews has performed way better, not only offensively but defensively hes amazing too with that big body. I know Laine played less games but Matthews still had more points and he even came through in the playoffs

Graham Krane seems you didnt watch him... he does create. they just didnt go in his rookie season..he can power thru defencemen as the youngest player in the league, did it many time just couldnt finish ironically. youll see next season
I watched tons of his games. He floats. 60% secondary assists too, lots coming from lost battles on the boards that squeak out. Literally did nothing at the end of the year once off of Schiefele's line.
Graham Krane you do realize that out of his 1031 minutes of 5v5 play he spent almost 500 away from scheifele...?
during the 537 minutes they played together scheifele scored majority of his 5v5 points ;)
anyways he was a bit inconsistent and stayed away from the boards if possible as it was a weakness.
kids shot is his greatest asset why have hin at the boards when scheifele can take those and just pass the puck to an open laine? hence why every linemate that played with laine scored the majority of their points with laine despite playing less than half of their time with him..
he has some flaws mainly due to lack off lower body strength his game is sound, only complaint i have is that he can seem "lazy" at times and i want him to shoot from in closer...he had the furtherst average shooting amongst all forwards...
Why did Laine not do shit (barring 2 PPGs) in the final weeks then when Scheifele was still tearing it up without him?
Scheif carried Laine. Kids good, but let's be real, he's a shot, that's about it. There's a reason Scheif has been a top 10 player for a while now.
Graham Krane because he played about 115 games within a year prior to the start of the season with almost no rest in between...he got gassed... why so you think he posted a 1.47 ppg streak during 22 games returning from the concussion?
scheif didnt carry him anymore than laine carried scheif...keep in mind scheifele plays with wheeler when not with laine.
laine was the youngest guy in the league..he was inconsistent as was the whole team. He was insanely good tho but laid eggs every now and then. its okay he just turned 19
