    The Amanda Palmer response the victim DID NOT tell her what happened she said initially Neil "made a pass" at her and that's when Amanda Palmer reportedly said the "14th fucking woman" thing

      This. It's really disgusting that this video remains up and uncorrected after so much time and that no due diligence was put into ascertaining the facts before putting it out there as "outrage fodder". The whole tone feels exploitative of what these women went through and it's really depressing that people with platforms are using other people's trauma and adversity to self-promote like this.

      Close. A lot of people (myself included) remembered it this way. However, what happened in the podcast was: S told AP that NG made a pass at her. AP said “I bet.” Podcast narrates that S used this interaction to broach a difficult topic with AP, and S then sat and talked with AP about her experiences in that household with NG. S says they stayed up talking very late, until at least 2am. And that AP appeared agitated/concerned (my paraphrase). And that’s when she says that AP told her she was the fourteenth person to come to her about Gaiman’s actions.

      Regardless of conversation specifics - Amanda Palmer brought a vulnerable young woman who trusted her to an island to stay in her husband's house, instead of her own separate house, knowing her husband was at the very least sleazy & did not warn the girl.

      No . I think the whole world is built on power, bullying, sex abuse etc. Its how people get energy and strength and dominance . Its no longer the odd rogue baddie, it seems to be structural . I've reported a few men like this and even high ranking police women just laughed . Even serious rape and paedophilia isnt taken seriously . Globally it is endemic in every corner and strata of society . In cultures with digital social credit scores the big bullies at the top just use digital ID to get away with even worse things. It's terrible, and very very sad. We basically have to guard ourselves and our friends and families. We cant rely on goodness.

    This video should be updated with a correction. When Amanda was told, what she was told was that Neil had made a pass at Scarlet, and this was after she and Neil had split up. Amanda was not told at that time that the act was violent or nonconsensual. She and Neil were in an open relationship and so, yes, communication is key. She was exasperated because Neil was out there hitting on women while in an open relationship and yet he was not communicating that to them, and it was getting back to her, which put her in a very awkward situation. She also had ended things with him because even when they were no longer in an open relationship, he continued to seek other women out sexually, and their relationship deteriorated as a result of this, their conflicting touring schedules, and the stresses of being under house arrest together at the beginning of the pandemic. To cast her as being somehow complicit in his predatory behaviour is both inaccurate and dangerous. Amanda has said and done a lot of things that have been controversial, some rightfully so, but she doesn't deserve to be called an SA enabler or have it implied that she was part of a cover-up.

    • @spencerfantastic
      @spencerfantastic  Před 19 dny +2

      I do not agree. Sure, the conversation she had with Scarlet might not have gotten into details of violence during their conversation, but I do not believe that she had no idea he was being aggressive toward these women after talking to at least 14 of them about this (at least one would have said the encounters were getting violent). She was also married to him while most of these assaults were taking place. If she truly had no idea it was because she was being willfully ignorant to what was happening in her own home. Not to mention that it has been a month and we have four official victims now and she still has yet to come forward supporting the victims or condemning Gaiman. She clearly had some sort of knowledge of this and is now also trying to ignore it until it goes away.

    • @Lex-cp5eg
      @Lex-cp5eg Před 8 dny +1

      @@spencerfantasticThank you. The “fourteenth person to go to AP” comment is a bit murky. Because in the podcast, AP tells S that she was the fourteenth person to come to her about Gaiman. Scarlett says this after telling about staying up all night talking with Amanda about what happened between herself and Gaiman. And she says it’s “fucked up” that Amanda Palmer knew of all these other women and did nothing. And still invited Scarlett herself into their home.
      So it’s definitely implied that Amanda Palmer knew some of the extent of what Gaiman was doing, and should have known better than to bring Scarlett there under the pretext of childcare work.
      When Scarlett initially approached Amanda Palmer about this, she said that Gaiman “made a pass at her.” And Palmer’s response was “Bet.”

    Tbh, I'm shocked at the way you're presenting this story. You talk about a bunch of reddit posts and a summary of a podcast you haven't acually listened to as though they were proven fact and evidence of his guilt in all allegations. I'm not saying I think Gaiman is innocent in this. I think that multiple people coming forward usually is a pretty clear sign that there's got to be some legitimate reason for the accusations. But as someone who's reporting on this story on a public forum you have a certain responsibility. I'm honestly shocked at the way you frame almost every piece of online discourse as though it was the obvious truth. Lots of it might very well turn out to be the truth. But we don't know that for sure just yet. And I think it's irresponsible to frame this story as though we had any sort of hard evidence. I'm not saying this to try and side with Gaiman or discredit the women who have come forward in any way. I think that that the age gap and power imbalance of him having an affair with very young women, one of whom was the live-in nanny to his son, is disgusting! And even just the (supposedly consentual) encounters he has openly admitted to so far are enough to make my skin crawl. But I think that when you're reporting on any sort of story in which someone is being accused of a crime, it's your responsibility to clearly separate the things you know for a fact to be true from the things that you or other people believe to be true. And there are several points in this video where that distinction between fact and allegation or belief is not just blurred, but crossed completely. It's important to believe victims of abuse and investigate their claims to get justice. But belief is not fact. And acting as though it was was ahead of time is not fighting for justice or being an ally.

    I was a huge fan of Gaiman. His writing helped me a lot when I was 16 and was struggling. Over the years I learned that there aren’t any good or bad people. There are just people and they are doing people things. And sadly one of those things is hurting others and not respecting boundaries. I read and engage with a lot of feminist media and especially the podcast of Matt Bernstein on Amber Heard and the myth of the perfect victim helped me understand why so many people have strong emotions when it comes to celebrities getting accused. I’m and always was in the always believe the victims first because of everything that goes on in the world and the immense amount of victims who will never go to the police bc of that. But it still hurts when one of the people who you truly looked up to turns out to be an abuser. Especially when he framed himself as a feminist and now calls paints one of the women as crazy and admitted being in relationships with women who are not even half his age. It’s disgusting.

    Go ahead, downvote me, but I have to ask this: why is it that conservative authors get banned from cons and cancelled simply for having views most (my liberal self included) disagree with, but Gaiman is largely getting a pass? We should respond to the way people act, not the views they have and express...but within reason, of course. Banning an author from a con for being a literal "WWII bad guy" is one thing, banning them for tweeting that they're pro-life is another.
    As for Gaiman, the fact is the power imbalance between a rich, much older, famous author and young fans is so great that it makes any kind of sexual relationship between them problematic as Hell. Guys like Gaiman should stick to older, professional women who are on his same level when it comes to power dynamics. With this many women coming out, I think we can safely say he is nasty.

      It's very uncommon, it's not "all the time." It's still horrible, but from the studies I've seen about this, usually it's related to mental illness or trying to get out of trouble by accusing someone else (I'm thinking of British studies, but from what I can tell this holds true for North America too). It's really not easy to get a settlement cheque, and your life as a victim really is more likely to be ruined than the perpetrator's. Think about the percentage of accused SAers who are convicted or go to prison. It's almost none of them. So it's a very very dumb way to try to get money.

Just as women are rarely believed or listened to, victims of false alligations are always subject to "no smoke without fire" innuendo. Wait for the verdict. Well, this is the first I've heard of this. Now I have to throw out all the Sandman TPBs I've had for over 25 years along with my other Neil Gaiman books.

      What proof do you want? Most people aren’t gonna have video or audio recordings of their SA. All they’re gonna have is their memory

      @quirkyblackenby you don't send people to jail on people memories. If you're saying that he's guilty of anything that happens after a trail . I've seen too many block men spend years in prison because a white woman said he attacked me, with no other proof than that. So if you're going to say someone did anything you better have some real proof to back up what you're saying. Otherwise anyone can say anything about anyone. And in today's world that's pretty much what's going on

      As a JP this wouldn’t pass reasonable doubt threshold. Particularly with the text messages thanking him.
