  • The CBR900RR Fireblade is almost 30 years old and was an incredible motorcycle in its day! I was lucky enough to get my leg over one to see how it stands up against the latest modern sportsbikes?

I had a 954. Still the best Blade. 154hp. No tc. No rider modes. No nonsense. Just perfection. One of the best looking sports bikes ever made too. Up there with the 916 for me. Mine was the superior white/blue.

My favorite affordable modification to a freshly built, hot-rodded 1998 SuperHawk 996 (FireStorm) is the modification of one tooth down on the front sprocket and _three_ teeth up on the rear sprocket (44 teeth), with a teflon-coated light-weight Vortex aluminum rear sprocket kit. You can order the one tooth down (stainless), three teeth up (coated aluminum) kit from Vortex, with an OEM (530) chain profile. I'm not racing anyone, so I don't mind losing a little off of the top-end in order to gain the economy and the acceleration on the bottom-end. A nice mod.

Driving home through Matlock Bath in the early nineties a fireblade was parked up on the side of the road and I said to my girlfriend “one day I will have one of those.” Sure enough in 98 I bought the original 92 blade. Having only ridden a Kmx125 on the road it was a massive learning curve for me. I never fell off my blade but I did get a £400 fine and a three month ban for speeding. I sold it shortly afterwards. Good days. Great bike.

Ross - That's a mistake, you should ride it. You are trading years of pleasure and memories for a little bit of money. Unless of course you're a collector and don't ride at all.

Am going be 56 y/o and being big guy the zH2 is out question,I really like 2020 KTM 1290 R,the electronics today is amazing. Also great machine just for city blasting. Love 954 going wash this weekend first time it will see light since 2008. Will put in new fuel, battery fire it up,go down memory lane. If my memory serves me right I can even put 6 pack of beer under seat, lol. Cheers from Canada.

Still got mine, bought it new 1993, red/white/blue, paid £7800, only has 23k on it , was great at Isle of Man back in the days , stage 1 dynojet, filter, micron end can( looks tatty now) got a new Beowulf end can in box to go on when needed , still have original end can also stainless headers , still got original down pipes , pin holed at collectors , but still reparable , complete bike starts/ runs/ works as it should , waiting for it going up in price and will probably sell on , but may regret that like I did selling my yam rd 250 air cooled and 2x 350 early lc’s , one in standard red/ white trim the other with black/red/ white speed bock paint and micron spanny’s on it , and a yam fz750

My second bike was a CBR600 ('91 F-M) that had a twin headlight conversion so it looked like the 'blade.
It was blade colours too - the black with red/purple paint. Was a great bike.
Had it 2 years and sold it for more than I paid for it :)
If you're doing a 'blade generation series then you could borrow the FireWeem if you like :) (2010 RR-A)

The 2003 pewter-and-black FireBlade CBR954RR, to date, is my personal favorite of all in-line four sport bikes. It is such an elegantly designed, comfortable motorcycle to ride, with a healthy performance edge, to boot. In 2004, I rode one briefly as a loaner from a mechanic, while my SuperHawk 996 (FireStorm) was being rebuilt and upgraded. After the 954RR, Honda altered the FireBlade to have a much more aggressive rider position. That does not work for me, since I experienced a serious back injury in 2004, and I must ride a motorcycle with a sport-touring (3/4) rider position. Whoever recommended that you ride the CBR954RR was not kidding: It is an excellent choice for those with a hankering for a stylish sport bike. I almost bought one instead of again tricking-out last year my 1998 SuperHawk (FireStorm). Both bikes rock!

My all time favorite bike. Picked up a brand new one in August '92, think it was £7250. Wanted the red, white and blue but none available so plumbed for black. Micron end can and dynojet kit later it pumped out 118 bhp. Loved the bike and wished I'd never p'exd it for Triumph Tiger 900

Right on all fronts, gr8 vid. I've owned 3 Battleax s21's on mine. I like the carbs and the fueling, it sings at 10k thats where u ride it when u want to feel it as it's best.

I'm not sure I could sell my RRV.. certainly more challenging to ride than a modern bike but infinitely more rewarding.. A set of Bridgstone S21s and you're winning

Had a 2003 954rr. I wish I could go back in time and do it over again. I wouldn't have gotten rid of it. It was in great shape. This was probably around 2010ish.

Sone rubber bungs towards the rear of the tank, on both sides will ease vibrations, in addition to the two near the front. Place them between the frame and base of the tank. A bit of rubber goes a far way towards reducing the vibes. Proud owner of a 97/ 918cc fox eye model. and still going strong!

Tadao Baba was a great enginer. Smoking, riding and crashing the bikes he desinged. I had 954rr (the last of his baybes) great road bike, weak point transmition. Good point comfortable riding postion for a sport bike, power enough for any mortal, solid brakes,...stearing damper a must have. Great video

what happened to your Transmission? i recently bought one and wonder what i should do or avoid to not get the trans damaged.

@@user-jt6nw6wm5q It wouldnt stay in 3rd gear on heavy accelariton. 3rd gear cog was worn so i sold the bike. I would have to rebuild the gearbox in order to do that you have to take the whole engine out,....it had 50000km when the problem started. If you buy one look for one with low miles/km if possible and that the previus owner didnt ride it like an idot in my case that was me. If You have one be gentle with the gear changes it is not a racer. Let it warm up before you ride it and hope the previus owner took care of it. Over all for me great bike. Good luck 😁
