Thnx 4 sharing yr story. My mum, 83, went into total septic shock early 2019..never been ill before. She's tiny, after a day dad 85 rang ambulance...mum's organs were shutting down, she weighed 80 pounds, 4ft 11 before this! No platelets, my sis said she was bleeding out thro her skin, everywhere. Even her heart got infected.
Took a week(got paid) til I finally could fly up there, she needed replacement heart valve.
This is a 83 woman wld _never_ been to hospital before, except when we 8 kids were born. Never even taken a panadol. I believe that's why the a/bs worked finally tho they gave her so many over 5 weeks.
Luckily She's still with us, 85, and dad. Just wish they weren't so far away ♡

Hi Brendan...thank you for your story and so glad things worked out. I went into the ICU (pneumonia) on June 1st 2017, went into septic shock, ,kidneys, lungs, heart, liver and heart stopped working, died 3 times in the ICU, intubated and put on the ECMO machine, kept in a medically induced coma for 4+ weeks and somehow by the grace of god, I am still here. After months of rehab I regained my ability to walk. I thank god everyday and I am glad I can share my story. God bless and take care!

yes, hubby just went through sepsis from a blocked ureter after a radical cystectomy! knew the signs since my BIL died from septic shock in 2018! Scariest problem I have ever dealt with! He was so sick and then the fever spiked and the mental confusion started when I drove into the hospital ER! Came on so very fast, and the hospital acted quickly with starting fluids and Zosyn which was switched to Cipro and Vancomycin upon leaving the hospital a week later! It started in the ureter, went to the kidney and started pneumonia by the time we got to ER! Crazy fast moving, if there’s ever a next time, I will call an ambulance to get the ball rolling faster! Unbelievable 😢….Prayers and love to all of you survivors!

Had sepsis. First time in hospital over night. 6 days there. Jesus healed me. It was from frostbite ulcer that went into cellulitis into sepsis. After praying hard the infection was half gone. Thank you Jesus for healing me. Watch out for skin infections that spread. Jesus bless!

Wow, incredible story. Even without the horrible infection, just being in the ICU can debilitated a patient.

I survived severe sepsis back in 2010. I went to bed at 11pm and by 0300, i was so sick, i thought i would die. It would be four days when i was no longer responsive and couldn't refuse to go to the hospital. Within an hour of arriving to the ER, i was on a ventilator and being flown to the trauma center. I experienced bad and frightening hallucinations and had a BP of 60. The source of my sepsis was streptococci pneumonia. After 14 days in ICU, i made it but 40lbs lighter. After all these years, i am still traumatized. I made it because of good health and the actions of all the medical people involved. What lingers now is the fear it might return. Every little cut or scratch puts me in panic. It's a tough way to have to live in fear and i'm convinced that fear will always be with me.

I survived sepsis 6 times. The first 4 involved ambulance rides to a hospital and at least a week long hospital stay. The time from my early symptoms (chills) and an ambulance was 10 hours. My bacteria infection was gram positive and I know I was given the same IV antibiotic the last two hospital stays. This antibiotic, which must be unnamed since I am not a doctor, has a generic pill equivalent. I asked for, and recieved, a prescription to be on hand for emergency use. The last two infections, I self medicated at the first experience of chills and was cured within 24 hours. This medication will remain close to me for the rest of my life.
Ask your doctor if there is a pill version of the antibiotic that cured you. Good chance that if it returns, you can stop the rapid progression of this terrible disease.

Three months ago. Fever, chills for days, went to the ER, was immediately started on iv antibiotics after a blood test, was admitted to intensive care and just told, I had an infection. I asked the doctor, am I septic? He said yes. Why wasn't I told?

Brendan, I'm so glad you're here to tell your story. Getting it twice - I can't imagine. Fortunately, when I was on the edge of that "point of no return", as you call it, an ER doctor did say the word "sepsis". Now, when I notice my PICC line scar, I feel nothing but gratitude. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I have had a motorbike accident 3 years ago, I was 14 at the time. We went to the casualty where we are and they stitched the wound closed but never cleaned it as I had cut a minor artery and every time they would clean it, it would bleed, I ended up getting an infection and got sepsis I ended up in icu and it was awful. I have had sepsis twice and have survived it. I have had over 30 operations to try and reconstruct my foot. I currently have another infection and I am feeling absolutely horrific
