@@krisguntner4805 couldn’t have said it better myself.
I Remember they literally promoted the trailer with just Thor, cap, & iron man walking up to Thanos. I remember saying “where’s hulk?” Then the movie came out, & hulk legit wasn’t part of that final 3vs1 showdown amongst the “og 3” against Thanos. That killed me.
In the comics, Hulk technically was an avenger before Cap was even thawed out. In the final two films, they just flat out disrespected him. Even gave him an armcast. Ridiculous
Then they give the shine to C.marvel, who gets to destroy Thanos ship AND overpower Thanos to the point where he looked like a bitch.
& hulk got an armcast… don’t get me wrong, they gave Hulk some shine by using the gauntlet, & he gets the “holding up a whole building from crushing them” spot. But it wasn’t satisfactory enough, at least for me, a Hulk fan, who felt as though he has been given the short stick the past couple of films..
Hulk could’ve fought Thanos, or held Thanos down for a point, instead of C.Marvel & let her destroy the ship. Or Vice versa, she could’ve had that overpower moment while Hulk destroyed the ship. Imagine the crowds & hype if Hulk did a thunderclap on the battlefield, or jumped into the sky & took the ship down with ease like he was gonna do to the shield helicarrier in the first avengers. At least a Hulk Smash? This is a culminating event & we got a watered down professor hulk who was more banner than anything else.
He didn’t even get mad when Nat died. He threw a bench…. Really far….
Then they gave him an armcast.

That opening act was one of my favorite parts in film history. Before going into the film, I was wanting them to spend some time dealing with a post-snap world before fixing it via plot convenience. Having all their hopes for bringing everybody back destroyed and then killing their opponent in a fit of rage only to spend the rest of their lives coping with their failure and enduring a world they let down was the perfect way to take them from rock bottom to even lower. That long black out only to finally reveal the words "Five years later" was also brilliant. Blackouts are a way to depict the passage of time in filmography, -it conveys space between events. Having such a long blackout helps the audience feel the weight of a world coming to a holt while being forced to keep moving. Absolutely beautiful opening to a movie.

@@busaj383 It is a job for a superior creature or civilization. We are humans, so it would be impossible for us, as well as extremly depressing and overwhelming, but do reailize that Thanos is no human, and with the infinity stones he could have compensated to either aquire the power, the tools and the resources, as well as the support needed to build a system.
That's how the universe is being handle by the fictional characters behind the scenes in Marvel today, and how the writers are delegating the story making.

Exactly, that's how I interpreted his death. The fact that the only reason they managed to kill him in that moment is because he let them. Him just resting after accomplishing his mission makes him even more interesting and a more complex villain. While most villains are just power hungry and never stop, he felt at peace because he's the hero of his own story. I also like the religious parallel (God creating the world and then resting on the last day), don't know if it was intentional but Thanos literally saw himself as a godly being so I thought it was super interesting.

I honestly hate that they killed Thanos not once but twice. Marvel is notorious for writing sub-par villains and Thanos was an exception to that. There are plenty of ways they could have invoked the same emotion and story without killing him off, especially since he destroyed the stones. As far as we know, he was living on a planet with seemingly no intelligent life, with no means of leaving said planet and in a severely weakened state. They could have had him locked up in some remote part of the universe and then continued the story from there while leaving it open enough for a Thanos return or even a team up in the future.

  • @KryogenKeeper
    @KryogenKeeper Před 2 lety +2

Very interesting story tool you've pointed out. I agree with you. After reviewing the movie again recently, Endgame was expected to be more intense than Infinity War. They used that as a literary trick! We we're all agasp when Thanos was so un-satisfyingly killed. When revisiting that as a character, it was obviously an empty (pyric?) victory. Like a whoopie cushion with a rip in it, they were abruptly deflated. The movie goes on to show each character in a "mission" of which we would have never seen them in before.
Cap is attempting to use his skills to motivate people who, like himself, have lost all hope. We can see him struggling to keep a straight face as he spews bullshit that he too doesn't believe.
Widow is now in charge and on the hook for deaths, when she is most comfortable in the background, unseen. Her breakdown from this situation becomes a main storyline in itself. The sacrifice she makes for the Soul Stone gets some respectable screen time.
    Thor, is self explanatory.
    Wanda, started her own series...
"They did what they were supposed to do." - Kang, the One at the End of Time
It's been said that Thanos lost, among other things, because he didn't go through the trials and tribulations of the life lead by the 1st Thanos. 2nd Thanos took a different path. The challenges 1st Thanos overcame at those specific times, in that order, are what lead to his victory in Infinity War. (Time stone to get Mind stone i.e.)
Similarly, the Avengers had to go through their "darkness" in order to become the person that would sacrifice themselves for the Soul Stone, for instance.
    ... or maybe not.

Killing off the villain of Infinity War, just to have the younger version of said villain be the main villain in the end, with a change of purpose, feeds into the comic narrative that these characters never really die. With the current Multi-verse Saga at hand, recasting actors to play the characters, Ironman, Captain America, Black Widow, can make sense. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of this new Saga. However, I'm curious to see the Dark Avengers take shape, maybe Thunderbolts, and an Adam Warlock payoff. Erasing character arcs, like in Loki's case and Gamora's, I'm no longer interested in seeing where their stories go. That's what they did in this sense by killing off the Thanos that completed his story arc, just to have a younger, alternate version of Thanos fail at completing his.

There's actually an answer to that, and it's addressed in Eternals.
Though he couldn't articulate it properly, his planet wasn't killed through famine. It was killed because it generated enough life to allow a new Celestial to be born. Planets are basically like eggs to beings like Ego, and the life on it is the energy that hatches those eggs. Tiamat is the celestial that is growing inside the earth and if Tiamat awakens, all life on Earth would die... The more prosperous the planet, the quicker the egg hatches. Thanos cutting the population of Earth, specifically, but the universe as well, is a reset for those growing celestials, dramatically reducing the amount of energy available to hatch.
It's a double-edged sword, though, as the Celestials are also the only thing that keeps back the Darkness.
