    When you go back and look at the Marvel Cinematic Universe's first 3 phases, one thing is obvious: Thanos was trying to prevent Kang from starting another massive multiversal war. In this video we explain his true origin story, why he kept his real plan a secret, and how the Mad Titan was really just misunderstood.

    this video revitalized my excitement for marvels future. changed my perspective on thanos. crazy to think avengers were trying to save their universe, but thanos was trying to save the multiverse. the theory of thanos having cosmic awareness has to be true because he knew about the multiverse while the avengers were stuck fixated on their universe (for good reasons). what if thanos reasoned with the avengers...you know what he couldent because like you said you cant really talk about the multiverse or it will give people ideas to mess with it and cause incursions.

      Well, IDK about protecting the multiverse. Because the multimeter at that point wasn't actually a multiverse with alternate universes getting pruned left and right.
      And that would have left the multiverse in more danger from the Beyonders. Since there would be less universes to take over and explode. Thus lessening the chance that a molecular man would turn on its creator and hunt the others.

    Great theory. This would also explain why Thanos used the Time Stone so sparingly. He knew messing with the fabric of time too much could lead to unwanted results. Also, the way that Ant Man came back from the quantum realm by way of a rat “accidentally” stepping on the right buttons in correct sequence was so ridiculously convenient it could have only been orchestrated by some type of higher being (i.e. He Who Remains)

      ah but the Time gem works differently, as explained in an earlier video (one of the Loki ones, I forget which). It can move time back and forward, like a videotape, but it can't change anything. At least nothing that would cause a branch. Hence why Corrupted Strange in WHat if couldn't "save his heart". A lot of people don't realize the true downfall of Thanos plan in the movie was he kept his word. Thanos has never been known to be a liar if you remember any conversations about him from Nebula, or the conversation between him and Gamora. When Strange asked him to spare Starks life, even though the snap was supposed to be set at random he kept Tony out the loop. I think that Strange knew that about him, and out of all the realities/ possibilities Tony had that one chance. Great movie ..but the comic had a way better storyline. Even though there are a couple elements I didn't like about the movie The Silver Surfer had the Hulk standing in for him and missed a great way to introduce Adam Warlock, plus that version of The Incredible Hulk from planet Sakarr would have given Thanos a run for his money, a much smarter, and stronger version of The Hulk. Fun Fact for those who don't read comics those trapped sacrificed to the Soul Stone aren't really dead but trapped in another dimension/soulverse/pocketdimension. Adam Warlock, and Silver Surfer got out if I remember correctly.

    Interesting theory, but the rationale for the snap is weak. If the snap was truly random, then it would be an ineffective strategy to take out an ancestor of Kang, as there would be a multitude of variant universes where all of Kang's ancestors survived the Snap. Thanos spent far too much time and effort gathering the stones to use them for such a scattershot tactic, especially since he could presumably use the power of the stones to actually identify Kang's ancestors and hunt them down more surgically.

They even teased this in the What If series where he was friendlier. Maybe just to see how the audience would react? The only question I want answered is… Tony? Both were linked as characters who could see the future by observing how current events could unfold. If Thanos’s plan was deceptive, Tony would have worked it out. which makes no sense and proves thanos a braindead idiot.
      first, celestials are already checking all life and maintaining universal balance. if thanos knew about them he'd agree with them and help destroy Earth for the sake of the rest of the universe. he would be eager to make sure a few planets get sacrificed so millions more cna be born.
      this exact reason is why not every Eternal was willing to go along with saving the Earth. they didnt think it was fair or moral that they should save Earth while simultaneously dooming millions of new species from ever potentially being born.
      everything we know about thanos as a character shows he would agree with the Celestials methods. and even if he didnt, he never actually did anything to stop them.
      his plan doesnt stop anything, just slightly delays it. the Earth will repopulate to its original levels within about 100 years or so, which is the blink of an eye in the lifespan of a celestial. this is like pissing your pants to keep warm and calling it a solution. it isnt.
      if this is truly his motive then it REALLY makes no sense that he would destroy the Stones, call his work "finished" and that keeping them around was temptation. temptation to do what exactly?
      for thanos plan to make any sense, he shouild have kept the stones around and periodically snap the populations awya to keep them low.

    Let's say you're right about Thanos knowing about the Multiversal war. Let's also say the theories that Kang's tem pads are based on the tech the Avengers used to travel through time are also right. In that case, it's possible that Thanos was making sure those devices were invented, because it's likely that whichever universe figured out time travel first would end up winning the Multiversal war. So he was ensuring the avengers had a reason to create the tech. This also feeds into how he seemed to know and fear/respect Tony Stark.

    I’ll throw out this theory, what if in the attempt to stop the multiverse war he actually started it all. When the avengers went back in time to collect the time stones, they started the branching and birth of the multiverse. It goes back to what the ancient one said about the removal of the stones and the branching of the time line and the warning Tony gave of when you mess with time, time mess back. And it could be explain why the TVA did not interfere with the avengers meddling with the time stream, as it was all part of the plan to have The Loki varrient created and the female Loki to kill he who remains. Maybe there was a secret Kang in the background pulling the strings and orchestrating this.

      Kinda thought the same. I think Kang could never figure out how to prevent the Scarlet Witch from appearing. His solution is to give Renslayer the necessary information to relay to his future self (variant one). This could very well be how his future self gains information about Aliath (spell?) and how to control the beast. Everyone will still need to go through the multiverse war, but he stacks the deck, so to speak, so that he is the variant that continues to win the war and set the "Sacred Timeline" - which is actually sacred to him. The multiverse springs into existence, and continues to exist until he, "reincarnated" in the future, ends the multiverse war and starts the Sacred Timeline all over again, ending up, like he says, "right back here again" - but younger, or both older and younger, or....younger with "ancient knowledge", or.....
      Just as Vision passed memories "White Vision" (himself), Kang uses Renslayer to take his device containing all that knowledge he has to his future self. As the Memory Vision and White Vision discuss about the ship (forget name) during their fight, what makes a person? The answer is the memories and knowledge of that person - or basically their consciousness, not their body - Kang's is all contained in his device / wrist device (forget name of it). Kang could also be seen manipulating Sylvie and Loki to not trust each other, and starting their duel. If he did not want them to kill him and actually take over the TVA, why not strengthen their partnership rather than plant seeds of distrust in their minds? Unless he already knew that Sylvie and Loki did not work, but as Loki said, why would Kang want to give up all that power?

    This is a really good theory. There are problems with it (matunos has a good critique), but it's better than the idea the movie gave. But it also drives home two things that _are_ canon but which neither fans nor writers have really grasped. First, Thanos's threat to destroy the entire universe. Second, the TVA routinely pruning timelines. _Those are not two different things._ Every time the TVA prunes a timeline, they're destroying an entire copy of the universe, including everyone in it. You might say that those people don't count because they are variants of people in the main timeline, but the Thanos who fought the Avengers after the Time Heist wasn't native to the main MCU timeline either. As far as he was concerned, he was from the main timeline and _they_ were the variants.
    Assuming he won the battle, he would presumably have reinstated the Snap, then returned to his own timeline and continued as before. But given the headache of trying to make sure that this other timeline's Snap remained in place, Thanos instead decided to just prune that whole timeline, then return to his own timeline to focus on creating his own future. It's a very different way of interpreting what seemed at the time like a very clear, straightforward speech.

      The writers certainly understood that Young Thano was a threat to destroying the universe. Mature Thanos was clearly effected by the long quest and saw himself as a humble servant of the greater good of the universe. Then in Endgame it is clear that the instant gratification opportunity went to Young Thanos's head and he really perceived himself as destined to become a god-ruler. He Who Remains no doubt understood this. He has print outs of everything anyone has ever said aloud and knew exactly what to say to stir infighting between Loki and Silvie's different psychological values.

In Loki, it's explained clearly that Thanos was supposed to do the snap and the Avengers were supposed to bring everyone back but Loki was not supposed to get away using the tesseract. If He Who Remains meant for Thanos to succeed and alt Thanos to lose then Thanos is inconsequential to the end of time. If Thanos was there for the multiverse war, he understood it was no longer a threat. If he was actually motivated by stopping another universal war he would have just beefed up the MCU universes defenses are maintained control of the infinity gauntlet to fight off other universes. At the end of End Game Thanos explains pretty clearly that he expected hthe surviving half of the universe to accept their new fate and do better. Losing their loved ones would be a reminder of what overpopulation leads to. No. Thanos was the mad titan. He is driven by evil. He is controlled largely by his Deviant dna.

    • @LyrixNChill
      @LyrixNChill Před 2 lety +14

      If you can think of the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe as one long ongoing saga story, that leaves room for the notion that things are not always what they seem at the end of one movie and hidden motivations can be fleshed out in other “chapter” movies. The entire Loki and What-If series showed how easily “why and how we think things work” can be destroyed and for every event there are multiple other versions of that event occurring that we are not privy to (basically… writers can write whatever they want and chalk it up to this new multi-dimensional paradigm). All that to say, this fan theory is quite plausible.

    • @LyrixNChill
      @LyrixNChill Před 2 lety +9

      In the Loki series, I strongly got the impression that in the bigger picture, yes - All of Thanos’ shenanigans and Avengers attempts to thwart them were inconsequential to He Who Remains. A big deal to us but par status quo to “Kind Kang” as I call him. Also, just because Thanos participated in a multiverse invasion doesn’t mean he understood why or how it was started or just how deep the rabbit hole went. He could have very well been one foot soldier in a cosmic showdown that left him with the worst case of PTSD the universe has seen. His plan to “cut out half the cancer” was possibly just him boxing with the shadows to make peace with what he thought he knew. At the end of End Game, I always felt his excuse/motivation for why he did what he did (to spank the Universe into doing better from now on) was super flimsy. Actually, it was stupid. Too stupid to come from Thanos (or the Marvel Universe writers by extension). Thanos’ “grand scheme” would be undone in less than a dozen generations simply with the passage of time and the new living forgetting about the dead dust. I feel the writers of Avengers went to great lengths in the script to show us that Thanos was not just evil or driven solely by crazy, but had a clear purpose and rationalized agenda. However, in contrast, the reasons Thanos kept giving for his personal crusade never sat well with me… All this pedigree and nuance of a character only to be motivated by a dopey, short-sighted idea - that killing half of life will save the other half for all time…. Before this Screencrush theory, I had settled on thinking Thanos was secretly driven by vengeful desperation for being scorned by Death and this was his offering. Even that theory however doesn’t entirely fit with how Thanos was behaving in Infinity Wars/End Game. This ScreenCrush theory is much better (although way more convoluted thanks to the Loki series and What-Ifs)

      @@LyrixNChill The pedigree and nuance was created by Jim Starlin who didn't write the movies. The good aspects are taken from the comics and the stuff that makes sense is added in orginally for the movie. With that said, Thanos has always been a walking contridiction in the comics. He is ultra intellegent but does dumb stuff for love. He has mostly been written as pure evil, the pure embodiment of death and in the comics he was written as being fated to always pursue the maximum amount of death possible. Really, it's actually just poorly written. Thanos with the gauntlet has the ability to time travel and understands how to use it but somehow doesn't feel the need to use it to explore time to pursue his goals. Think about that for a second. If Thanos did have cosmic awareness and the ability to time travel, why would he then still snap his fingers and then destroy the stones? They love their power and they would never settle for Thanos taking it away. There would then be conflict. That person may be a Victor Von Doom. He may be smart enough to not attack Thanos head on and instead time travel like the Avengers did and defeat him like the Avengers did and then Doom would have all the power and Thanos will have failed to correct the world.

Thanos’ idea was to cut half the population of HIS own universe out and hopefully remove the cancer of Kang, which in a sense he did. • @lazysod3
      @lazysod3 Před 2 lety +2

      Well, you’re not taking into account that we know from our real world that populations tend to taper off their growth as they approach a certain size. So that missing 50% wouldn’t have grown at the same rate as the 50% that was spared from the snap. Their collective size (if they’d all been spared and remained) would have introduced a natural counter pressure and the 2 halves together would have slowed their growth at roughly the same point that the spared 50% would have by itself. As Ryan points out in the vid, it’s not population growth that presents a problem, it’s consumption of energy. If you expand your energy generation to meet that natural population ceiling, then everything works out. The pop. doesn’t continue growing out of control.

    A curious theory. Why, if Thanos was interested in Death, would he go against Kang? Was Kang preventing deaths? Also wouldn't his plan make Kang moot? Are there no other intentions that have nothing to do with Kang's insanity?
    On the other hand if Thanos was interested in saving life why would he go against Kang? Wouldn't Kang's plan prevent the multiverse war, preventing the loss of all life.
    In order for your theory that Thanos knew about Kang's plan to work you would have to explain how Thanos knew Kang's plan; and presumably how he knew how to negate Kang's plan.
    I am assuming Kang was trying to prevent the multiverse war. But if Kang was trying to bring about the multiverse war wouldn't that make Thanos want to help him: help him destroy all life: amplify Death?
    If Kang was trying to bring about the multiverse war and Thanos was against this wouldn't Kang want to thwart Thanos? Make Thanos' plan fail - help the Avengers? Why not make Thor hit Thanos in the head to begin with? Because...that would have repercussions elsewhere that would cause Kang's plan to fail?
    An unlikely story.
    The brain is the organ of time. It organizes consciousness into sequences of interactions. Depending on the brain those sequences can be linear, geometric, logarithmic, or instantaneous: universally telepathic. But the interactions are still from one universe. For Kang's plan to function easily he would have to have telepathic commune with every Eternity from all universes. For Kang's plan to work, with near impossibility, he would have to have the "notion" that there was a multiverse; and also have an ability beyond this Universe's Eternity. The ability to algorithmetize a certain type of death. An abnormal death. Not a suicide a war.
    The question then becomes what could one do to one's self that would "cause" others to kill you? Unless one interacted with others nothing one did to oneself COULD affect those others' action. There would necessarily have to be an external world that belongs to all parties involved. Unless one interacted with that world no amount of internal manipulation could force anything.

    okay so here's the thing Thanos is part of the Sacred Timeline the things that exist beyond this "Official History" are the TVA, He Who Remains, and the place where the TVA sends all their crap. Okay now He Who Remains has crafted the Sacred Timeline to prevent the "War of the Kang's" (what that exactly means we can only speculate) Now we see that time is a loop starting at the birth of everything and ending with the death of everything then it all starts again. Now here's the kicker everything was fine for millennia Until He Who Remains/Kang discovers there's a multiverse and how to travel between universes (he even states this out right) aaaaand well he discovers this fact around the year three thousand and something which ultimately means the destruction of Titan is at least a thousand years before He Who Remains discovers the multiverse.
    okay "Time Travel" the Kang's have Stark's Time Travel tech so one of them could have come back and destroyed Titan Right? well Yes they could have, and even if one of them did, say for some extremely rare resource only Titan has. well then this would just be an invasion how in the hell would Thanos even know this enemy is from a different universe unless in the exceptionally rare case that on the opposing side was a Thanos (highly unlikely because any one of a billion to the power of a billion things could and would be different in a different universe including that Thanos was never born)
    Now I'm no expert but based on Ultron's reaction alone Cosmic awareness doesn't grant you infinite knowledge or sight, because first off he would have just warped back to earth and finished the job by killing Nat, Barton, and Zola for good measure, he is able to See the Watcher and comes to the realization there are places beyond his universe based on this. and let's not forget Thanos only had the stones for a very short period of time and they were affixed to a gauntlet where as Ultron had the stone integrated into his very body with the Mind Stone being part of his consciousness which is why I believe he was able to gain cosmic awareness and what makes him so powerful as Ultron is basically the Infinity Stones Incarnate.

Also, it's not unusual that, when someone is so focused on a goal, they are blinded by it, ignoring logic, their issues and other ways to deal with them or the consequences of their acts. One thing is sure: Thanos made a mess but the Avengers made an even worse mess, undoing what he did (I never read a Marvel comic), I still don't get why "it was supposed to happen", according to the TVA. Another thing is sure: mess is interesting.
