From Wik: "Heinkel He 219 Uhu ("Eagle-Owl") is a night fighter that served with the German Luftwaffe in the later stages of World War II. A relatively sophisticated design, the He 219 possessed a variety of innovations, including Lichtenstein SN-2 advanced VHF-band intercept radar, also used on the Ju 88G and Bf 110G night fighters. It was also the first operational military aircraft to be equipped with ejection seats and the first operational German World War II-era aircraft with tricycle landing gear. Had the Uhu been available in quantity, it might have had a significant effect on the strategic night bombing offensive of the Royal Air Force; however, only 294 of all models were built by the end of the war and these saw only limited service."

Yeah I like the HE 219 ( EAGLE OWL 🦉 ) as it carried a Verity of Cannon Armament ie..... 20mm 151/20 ( 20 × 82mm ) and either the 30mm MK 108 (30mm × 90mmRB )or the powerful 30mm MK103 ( 30mm × 184mm R ) plus a MG 131/13 in ( 13.2mm × 64mm R )for rear defense .ALSO i think that had the war continued they would have fitted the Aircraft with the MG 213/20 ( 20mm × 135mmR ) OR the 30mm version MK 213 ( 30mm × 85mmB BUT ..??? Gladly the war came to the End and that probably saved some lives of Airmen on all sides one thing that's suprised me is that after W.W.2 nobody used the powerful 30mm × 184mm cartridges for post war Aircraft guns..?? Instead they made use of the MK 213 both in 20mm and 30mm ie... The UK 🇬🇧 ended up with the ADEN and the French DEFA/ GIAT both low velocity= (.UK 30mm × 86mm ) and France= ( 30mm × 97mm ) and then they settled on the ( 30mm × 113mmB ) ANYHOOS WHAT AN AWESOME FLIGHT 🍺😏✌️☮️☯️🌍

@ Algiz They didn't save their industry, which is what they were trying to do. Bomber Command really fucked up the Ruhr in '43.
I don't understand, why is there a sight on the roof of the cockpit? Is that just a concession for 1946 or is there really some sort of roof sight for the 65 degree cannons? And where are the cannons mounted, I can't seem to see them on the plane model.

Yeah schrage musik are upward firing cannons this he-219 had two smc (schrage musik cannons) behind the wings and tail. I suppose that if that technique was used at the start of the war maybe roayal air force would have a lot of casualties and the war would take some years more to end.
Who would say that the Schrage Musik cannon was a ground crew´s inovation?!
Hello Fishyyy, i have a question, i'm using reshade to make the night darker however i have no idea how dark should i make it to be realistic.
In other words, how far could a pilot see in a moonless night? How far away should i vbe from a bomber before i should start to see something?
The real reports state very different ranges. The Nürnberg raid with the 100+ bomber losses is famous for a very long visibility range, apparently the nightfighters could make out bombers at ~2km or so. On the other end of the spectrum you got many cases in which nightfighters could get as close as 50m, without any rear gunners noticing them.

Umm.....I'll put 100 green on the table saying that illuminated runway is a P-61 magnet.
As is the case with everything that has to do with nightfighting - the runway lights are broken. There is a feature in the game, that let's a player request runway lights, so they turn on, only when requested. That feature is broken in two ways: 1st, the AI does not use it, 2nd, the lights only show up in replays, if the host requests them. For other technical reasons I could not be the host in this, so the lights had to be permanently on. By the way, there were Mosquitos at the airfields.

Guys i need help, this thing is driving me crazy, i have bought il2 1946 off steam, but it will simply won't start, i've tried everything, changing config file, changing compatibility and proprieties, switching from old version tu 4.12.2 but neither of them work, is driving me crazy, what i need to do, i'm on windows 10
