Before the P51 was flying escort Germany zestorers tore up B17 and B24's.Looks accurate to me
@@wirelessone2986 Not with P38 and P47s flying escort. When this happened it was the 110s that were slaughtered.
@@wirelessone2986 Actually, not accurate. ZG 1, 26 and 76 had a mixed record. Even in 1943, the pre-LR escort era. The NJG were inhibited by inadequate training and tactics too - they never should have been used in day defence their specialisation was the night war.
The BF-110 would've made one hell of an anti-ship aircraft. Torpedoes, armor piercing bombs, 30mm cannons, oh my!
my dad flew many missions over the Mediterranean, as escorts to Crete and as combat squads. They flew out of Palermo, Sicily.

Luftwaffe pilot Heinz Wolfgang Schnaufer had 122 kills in the night fighter role in a Me-110, hell, there was even a day fighter Ace, his name was Wolfgang (??) as well. Crazier stuff has happened. Great video, thanks for allowing us to watch these!

Messerschmitt worked for BFW at the time, so it is code named as Bf-110. Heinkel, Blohm & Voss, Fokker-Wulf etc. owned their own companies, and the ussr named planes after designers, hence the confusion. The Germans were right, planes were designed by large teams of skilled engineers, it is wrong to just brush them off

The Zerstorer-- while flawed-- was probably one of the most interesting propeller-drivenaircraft of WWII. It had variants that were highly armed, and the rear gunner's sighting technology was very advanced.

Untrimmed rudder was spliting myu attention from video and the fact I couldnt trim it was annoying XD But video was great as usual, definitely makes me want to make some proper intercepting sorties.

My favorite heavy fighter.
Crazy that the BF-110 was outclassed in the fighter role in 1940, but it was an excellent bomber interceptor throughout the war - unless the bombers had escort. Gotta hand it to the aircrew on both sides - I'm surprised the planes could even get off the ground against the weight from all them brass balls.
Real fighters don't need a rear gunner (P-38).
The BF-110 night interceptor was insane. Shooting bombers from below that thing was godly.

@@timonsolus Who had better? Why did a country the size of an average American state hold off the world for almost 6 years? Germans had 1950s tech against everyone else's 1930s tech.
Minong Maniac : No. Germany’s advantage in 1939-42 was because of better strategy and tactics rather than superior equipment.
The more advanced German equipment only appeared in 1943 and 1944, when Germany had already lost the war on the strategic level, and her armies were in retreat. German wonder weapons like Tiger II tanks and Me 262 jet fighters weren’t produced in enough numbers to prevent defeat.
And besides, the Tiger II was too heavy for its engine and transmission, resulting in frequent breakdowns, and the Me 262’s engines had extremely slow throttle response, were unreliable and prone to flameouts, and had an operational life of only 25 hours before having to be replaced.
The Soviets and Americans made better tank engines (IS-2, M26), and the British made better jet engines (Gloster Meteor). The only remaining German advantage by 1945 was better guns for both tanks and aircraft.
@@timonsolus Germany loss is because it took on too much. One too many fronts. Simple as that. 1 less front and Germany would have wasted us. If they would have just beat England instead of fighting massive battles in Russia... I would be writing this message from Mars right now. How could that be? It would be made possible by German tech, only it would be built by the people who designed it. Instead we have colluded German tech where we can't get back to the moon because the great guys who designed it and built it are gone, to Asgard.
Minong Maniac : Germany couldn’t defeat the UK because the Royal Navy was twice the size of the German navy and the Italian navy put together. Meaning that even if the Germans had managed to land an invasion force in England, they wouldn’t have been able to keep it supplied with sufficient ammunition, fuel and equipment. Eventually it would have been forced to surrender, just like the Axis force in Tunisia was in May 1943.
