  • Rotary Valve timing for a Seadoo 787 RFI Engine, even though the process is the same for a carburated engine. I'm not a guru but just trying to help people out.. A picture is worth 1000 words. Good Luck All !!

The valves don't always come out spot on. Sometimes you have to flip the valve and determine which side puts you in better tolerance. I like be closer to the middle but sometimes you end up with readings at either end. Intolerance is close enough but like I said, I shoot for the middle. Good Luck !!

Looks simple enough, well see in a day or 2 when I get ready to put my motor back in.... I've never done this before but there's a 1st time for everything

Thanks I just wanted to get something up there for people to see how it is done. I remember my first time. A video like this would have been helpful. Thanks for the comment !!

Hi Nirond, most excellent response. Thank you for taking the time. So true that I don't speak any language but English. I do my best to be as exact as possible and as you noted... I get this stuff spot on and leave nothing to chance. Thanks again !!

    This is NOT correct procedure!
I used your method and the engine ran HORRIBLY. Full time mechanic, I knew instantly upon start up that I was experiencing improper timing.
You show us to line the 360 at TOP port when the procedure is to line 360 at the BOTTOM port.
I would take this video down man, I was not happy until I discovered that your instruction was wrong and that it turned out to be an easy fix lol.

You clearly didn't watch the entire video. He checked both open and closed. Retard.

Sorry you had problems. If you watch the video you will see that there are TWO points to check the rotary valve timing. ONE with 360 degree mark on the top of the intake port, and THE SECOND to check with the 360 degree mark on the bottom of the intake port. If you read the degrees when I do each one you'll see the difference. The video is absolutely positively correct. The reason to check BOTH TOP and BOTTOM degree is because sometimes you can flip the rotary valve over and get the readings closer to spec. There is a tolerance in the manual that is listed in degrees of variance.
