If anyone wounder why Jigglypuff is in Smash. Clafairy was originally meant to be franchise mascot (in fact Mr. Mime was planed for cartoon, what gladly didn't happen). But due to popularity of Pikachu, who is rare cough in Viridian Forest and for long time only electric type in the game. So it become fan favorite instead. Jigglypuff is also way more popular then Clafairy and look almost the same, so it become unofficial franchise mascot instead (fun fact: It is due to they similarity to Mr. Saturn from Earthbound, as Creatures
Inc. is actually third member of Pokemon Company).

@@nameless8937 In both instances I'm almost positive they're just used as textures for the parts of their models with reflections (in Brawl the reflection on the Metroid trophy is the Super Metroid title screen for example).
The biggest problem with adding Goku to the roster is then the anime floodgates are opened and everyone will start asking for Naruto, Deku, Luffy, Saitama and others and it will just get out of control.

A Gyromite themed level for R.O.B would be cool. switches you can hit in the stage causing compressing pillars to descend/ascend to and pipe-like pseudo labyrinth stage design.
Sakurai randomly shadowdropped a new form of Battlefield on us a couple weeks back, and even though that's just a slightly altered version of a pre-existing stage, I wouldn't be surprised if he gave us new stages aside from the fighter packs. Smash 4 did that with the N64 returning stages.
Gyromite would make a perfect stage for ROB....and ffs why isn't there a spirit of his in-game inventor, Hector?

@Muse Suse Only a select few Mii costumes allow you to change their color, and the DQ Martial Artist costume is not one of them. iirc, none of the costumes based on existing characters/franchises can have colors changed, except the Toad costume for Brawler.
When I heard the fans wanting Goku, I was strangely reminded of Dragon Power, an NES game that was actually a modified version of one of the earliest Dragon Ball games for the Famicom. It featured a generic karate kid and kung fu master as Goku and Master Rossi respectively and while the game isn’t worth playing nowadays, it’s interesting how Dragon Power, by sheer technicality, was the US’ first exposure to Dragon Ball since I believe the Harmony Gold dub for Dragon Ball came afterwards.

The Smash series is just so amazing in terms of all the details included in each game. Sakurai is truly one of the best game designers of all time.
Sakurai loves putting in details, even explaining why some characters have moves they wouldn’t know, like how Paula taught Ness the PSI moves she knows that Ness didn’t in Earthbound.

Smash for 3DS/Wii U featured one instance of a character switching from one playable role to another during development; Alph (from Pikmin 3) was originally meant to be included as a fully-fledged clone character for Olimar. Alph would’ve commanded Rock Pikmin as his primary gameplay difference, but time constraints led to the scrapping of that idea and Alph was instead relegated to being Olimar’s alternate character, sharing the same roster slot with no gameplay differences. Alph is my favorite Pikmin character, and it’s a shame that he wasn’t upgraded as an Echo Fighter in Smash Ultimate. Still, I’m glad he’s playable at all.
@Wreck-It Rolfe Alph deserves to be an Echo Fighter more than anyone else. It would’ve been super easy, too. Here’s how I would’ve done it:
Alph commands red, yellow and blue Pikmin like Olimar, but Alph does not have access to purple and white Pikmin. In their place, Alph uses Rock Pikmin.
Rock Pikmin are immune to bury attacks (like DK’s side-B and K. Rool’s down tilt) and piercing attacks (like Corrin’s side-B and Byleth’s forward smash). Rock Pikmin are slightly faster than purple Pikmin, but not by much. Like purple Pikmin, Rock Pikmin bounce off of enemies when thrown with side-B. Smash attacks performed with Rock Pikmin deal heavy shield damage, but not enough to break them in one hit. Rock Pikmin have short range, like purple Pikmin, but are very powerful to compensate.
If possible, change Olimar’s up-B to his jetpack from Hey! Pikmin, resulting in Winged Pikmin being exclusive to Alph.

Roy is notoriously bad in Melee. If someone mains Roy, they will get the cheers because everyone cheers for the underdog and Roy is an underdog in every matchup. Dont Test Me (Zain) has revived the character by winning an online tournament (RonaRumble) with him in 2020 so Roy has a gotten a lot of love recently.

My deepest darkest never-gona-happen wish character would be Mike Jones from Startropics. I think it would be the first instance of a Nintendo character from a game that came out in the US and not in Japan. Which would be nice, considering how often that used to happen in Smash's rosters. And it's not like there aren't already obscure characters in these games. Mike had two games!
I think a big reason why sakurai won't put non videogame characters in smash is to curb speculation. If that were to happen, every fictional character ever made could pheasably make it in, driving up fan expectations and inevitable disappointment even more.
Once it stops being a celebration of video game characters itll just lose all of its own identity
*Fun fact* : Dragon Quest got represented in smash, despite not being son-goku both dragonball and Dragon Quest has toriyama work on them both at some point and even his art style carries over.
So with Sean Schemeal and dragon quest in smash; you can't get any closer to son-goku in smash than that!

Uh, we already know what the scrapped stage was. It was the summit of the mountain, although unclear whether or not it's the same Summit stage from Brawl.
Likely it was a prototype for the later Summit stage, but that's speculation.

Fire Emblem's...Ogma? What a weird choice.
Never thought he was that popular. Though, given he’s a sword user, there would be so many upset Smash fans if a non-main character sword user got in.
At the release of Smash 64, the latest Fire Emblem game was the fourth in the series, Genealogy of the Holy War. At the time, the only preceeding games were Shadow Dragon (Starring Marth), Gaiden, and a remake/sequel of the original game. Ogma could probably be seen as a decent choice, as he is a mercenary that joins Marth's party. However, seeing as how he isn't a main character, he would have certainly been strange. Especially when contrasted with Alm, Celica, Sigurd, or Seliph as potential choices, as each were the only main characters in the series to exist (besides Marth) in the series.
After Smash 64 released, Thracia 776 was released for the SNES, which would make Leif the latest main character. Of course, we have the ever-present story about how the then in-development sixth installment featured a spunky red-haired kid named Roy. The rest is history.
Worth noting, every single character mentioned here uses a sword, with the exception of Celica who is also capable of using magic, Sigurd who also uses lances, Alm who can learn bows, .Seliph who can learn lances, and Leif, who, with much difficulty, can use pretty much every single weapon type at his peak. Cool dude.

Every time I hear Melee's Target Smash music I internally beg for Target Smash DLC in Ultimate. It'd be cool if they did it for all the characters, even the DLC characters. I personally wonder how it would affect DLC character sales to have Target Smash levels for DLC characters but you don't have to buy those characters to play those levels. Almost like... in game advertising.

Did you know?: Despite being a Nintendo series, StarTropics has NEVER been represented in any Smash game!
StarTropics, Geist, Odama, Uniracers, A Kappa's Trail, Zekkyo Senshi Sakeburein, Endless Ocean and Tin Star are the only Nintendo IPs prior to Ultimate's release that have yet to see any content in Smash...post ( or too close to ) Ultimate's release, that list also now includes Dragalia Lost, The Stretchers and Good Job. Ultimate also strangely lacks any content for Cadence of Hyrule, Hyrule Warriors, Fire Emblem Warriors, the Battalion Wars games or the Tingle games...
there are likely other games & IPs I'm forgetting, but those are the ones I know for sure...
I'd guess that's because StarTropics and its sequel have never been released in Japan, not even on Virtual Console or Nintendo Switch Online. And we know how heavily biased the Smash games are toward Japanese characters and games...

Nintendo doesn't realize it, but the more they continue to ignore the series, the more xenophobic they look. The rest of the world always gets the short end of the stick!

Technically no, but also technically yes!
Apparently, according to the definition of the word language "...speech and writing that is used by *_*people*_* of a particular country or area" they aren't, because semantically (ethically is a different thing entirely) only humans are considered 'people' so anything else using a method of communication cannot be considered 'language' by definition.
However! Since Pokemon's names are localized, aka used by people of a particular country or area, since Pokemon are verbalizing/speaking the localized names that we (humans/people) have given each species (names which are spoken by humans to each other to communicate which Pokemon we mean), then most of them are in fact using many languages that are used by people of particular countries, just not very well (they each know 1 word of each language), but *_equally_* well as is required by the definition of bilingualism or in this case, multilingualism.
*with some exceptions of course, in Pokemon that do not say their names and just make seemingly random noises.

I HIGHLY recommend watching that last episode of the F-Zero anime if you haven't. Seeing and hearing the Falcon Punch scene in that episode made the Nintendo fan in me squeal. Just thinking about it gives me goosebumps.

Green Mewtwo is an alt in Smash Ultimate.
It's a _very_ different shade of green. Its modern shiny is a lime green, while Ultimate's green Mewtwo is a mint green and honestly closer to cyan.

Grappling Hook, debuting in Royal, was first shown in his reveal trailer.. April 2019. Iirc, p5r didnt show off the hook until late summer 2019, and P5 The Royal was released in Oct 2019.

Back when Smash Ultimate was gearing up for release, I enjoyed watching the spotlight trailers for every character. They were short, charming, and had a bombastic ending by showing off the characters’ Final Smashes.
Well, almost all of them ended that way. I remember being confused about Luigi never getting his shown off until the announcement of Mansion 3 gave me my answer.
It didn’t matter that the Final Smash didn’t change at all, as us eagle-eyed fans would’ve noticed that the Poltergust on Luigi’s back was different.

I thought that's why MUGEN exists.
To think that all theses things made their debute in Smash BEFORE the games! They could have easily implemented New Horizons content, as well as Sword and Shield Pokèmon before the release of those respect games, if they wanted to.
Gotta love how Sakurai adds a bunch of Fire Emblem characters but doesn’t even add the ones Fire Emblem fans want. That way he disappoints people how are and aren’t Fire Emblem fans.

Same, for the most part. If we actually get Geno, Shantae, or Dixie Kong in Ultimate, just one of those three, I'm perfectly satisfied. I've given up on Waluigi.
