  • Mark Roe, Frank Corrado and Jermain Franklin discuss Jermain’s TSN 1050 debut and his routine after hosting Sportcentre. They also chat about the fans breaching the Copa America Final between Argentina and Colombia, how does an elaborate event happen with that volume of fans, the Copa America Final, Canada’s loss to Uruguay in the 3rd place game, Carlos Alcaraz winning Wimbledon and more. They are joined by TSN Soccer analyst Steven Caldwell to discuss if Lionel Messi will play in the 2026 World Cup or will this be the end to his international career, Alphonso Davies’ Copa America performance for Canada and is he being underutilized, Spain beating England in the Euro Final and more.

Not disappointing in the least. He’s a world class defender and played in that position but for some reason we expect him to play like a striker. Media and fan base showing its immaturity in understanding the sport.

      You know ball.
Half of TSN's soccer coverage are hockey guys (Corrado used to literally play in the NHL) so of course they expect the captain to be the superstar scorer like McDavid or Mckinnon.
I'd say Phonzie does need to work on his set pieces though if he's going to continue to take them.

he's playing LB, you can't expect him to score... he did great

He played well other than the last game, when he was sub in he made terrible decisions and was way out of position multiple times then decided to be cheeky on the pk. Hopefully he learns more from the lost

He's not a great finisher anyway. Caldwell was spot on about Davies being best running onto the ball and setting others up

No, it was no a disappointing tournament for a captain of a team that outperformed and overperformed throughout. He plays LB, he no longer tries to play every position while playing none…

Canada needs to know how great it is in the world's football history to be ranked 4th in Copa America
Because people all over the world think Canada is a marginal country that no one in the football world recognizes

It's hard to shine playing LB.
LB is like that position you put your worst player in pick-up. Obviously Davies is not your worst player. I get in Bayern they have loads of options up front and in the wings, so yeah sure play Davies LB and utilize his speed there. But for Canada...WHYY left back. He could be so much more useful as a LW.

Indeed disappointing. Alphonso Davies did not shine in the team and ended up missing a penalty shot. However, overall the team functioned well and it is meritorious to reach the semifinals

He also made one of the most important pks in the quarters. The highest pressure pk as well.

    Davies is over-rated.

Davies played well below his potential, no question. We saw his greatness two years ago during qualifying, and flashes of quality, but overall, during Copá América, Davies was a shadow of his demonstrated abilities to change a game.

      Context is important.
The qualifiers were against mostly weaker teams in our region like Haiti, Panama, El Salvador etc.
Davies was also playing as a winger or sometimes even a free attacking role bc Herdman just let him do what he wanted.
Canada went up against literal world champions 2X at Copa, and he was playing LB so he could not attack as much.

@@stevendchu Good points Steven, but Davies was overshadowed at Copá by several lesser teammates, the quality of the opposition notwithstanding. Your point about Herdman vs. Marsch is well-taken however. Herdman's decision-making was awful in Qatar, starting a 39-year old Captain in all three matches, one who was badly out of position and lagging horribly on all three Croatian goals. Was never a Herdman fan. His ridiculous comments following the match against Belgium proved he knew nothing about Canadian sports culture and the behaviour and words we expect from our leaders. TFC's loss to lowly Hamilton last week exemplify what I consider to be a (very) low-grade coach who emphasizes political correctness over sound decision-making.

He is in the wrong position. He is great at pressing down the left wing. The coach has him in the wrong position.
