  • TRESPASS released just three 7" pieces of vinyl and made a couple of compilation appearances, but the quality of their recorded output is undeniable. They're recognized as one of the archetypal NWOBHM acts and one of the scene's early success stories who are still putting out some solid recordings in the 2020s. Let's dig in...

Dear Alan, I've once seen their live in "20th anniversary of NWOBHM, metal crusade '99" in Tokyo
along with TANK, PRAYING MANTIS, SAMSON, and got their autograth of all members on my
copy of "One of these days" (I've been not sure my sleeve is a real thing or photo copy anyway)
It is really a good memory of me. Yeah, but it has already past "another" 20 years by now! 😁

So many good bands...it was a very rich period for Metal and that still echoes today, with almost unknown groups still sounding quite on a par with so many other present-day NWOTHM cohorts. Well, thanks for the Trespass tip, Alan, quite a pleasant surprise.

Glad you dig the TRESPASS material. It's a shame their luck wasn't better when the big labels came calling, though being on a major they might have been forced to become an AOR band LOL

Stormchild, Lightsmith, and Bright lights are my favorites from them. Solid band. The constant changing lineups seemed to be a problem for many NWOBHM bands. Would have been nice to see how the original lineup would have developed over time

Yeah. In interviews they admitted they should have stuck to their guns and stopped changing things to please people in the music industry.
My faves are One of These Days and Visionary. Stormchild is probably #3.

Cool talk about one of the most epic NWOBHM acts that unfortunately never managed to release a full album back in the early 80's.

You played an earlier version of Live It Up, Rob Eckhart had a more high pitched voice. His histrionic vocal on the song Jealousy is quite interesting! That Anthology is my favourite NWOBHM release ever, it's full of great songs. I can't believe they never released an album back in the day, not quite 70s or 80s I guess they fell between the cracks.

Thanks for pointing that out. There's some confusion about what versions Rob sang on, whether some songs got re-recorded or not, etc. I must've pulled up the wrong mp3.
It sounds like they were close to a deal on two occasions and just had the worst luck

It's shame they didn't get chance to record a full length in 1980/81 such a great sound reminds me in spots of ufo I remember hearing the story of lars ulrich joining their fan club after buying the one of these days single!

I hadn't heard that Lars story before, thanks for mentioning it Robert!

Great dive into Trespass, Alan. I know them only from their compilation album appearances. Clearly, I need to grab one of their anthology albums.

I don't know how the track lists differ so you'll want to compare them to see if one if more complete than the others.

The one you showed seems to have the most by far. It's also priced at $50+ at Discogs.
I was able to download a 15 track anthology called The Works this afternoon.

@@Frank_nwobhm Yikes, $50!?! The Works seems like a good collection too. There's a 'The Works Part 2' volume also.
