The receiver will pickup the transmitter signal up to about 10” away from the wire that the signal is connected to when set at max sensitivity. However, there is theoretically no limit to the length of the wire the transmitter is injecting the signal into.
So if I connect it to a relay circuit that powers on with the key on, will it continually beep as "open?" Then if I put the key in the ignition and power that circuit will the open condition go away? If so this tool can be very misleading to a beginner.

It'd be best to just test it with the relay pulled out, and test each circuit going out to each component or connector for an open or short.
@@banzaibankai2671 Yeah, ended up pulling up the wiring diagram and testing the components with a multimeter. This tool will come in handy, one day!
Normally... that means relay is separate contacts...
