    txg.ca - In this video we fit Ron, a solid mid-handicap player, to a new set of irons! Looking for more ball speed, spin and straighter ball flight, we go through a variety of iron head, shaft and even golf ball combinations to find Ron a better performing set for his swing.

    This is a PERFECT example of how a fitters knowledgebase is vital when fitting a player. Granted, Ian knows the Ron well, due to their years of activity with each other; yet it was through the fitting process in seeing a player performance, which opened up door in "dial-in" an iron, shaft, and BALL combination, in order to achieve positive results. That said, I do feel that a 5-year projection club set, given the player's age, is a bold task. At 52 (my age), my swing speed, physical capability, and endurance is not what it was when I was in my mid to late '40; not to mention the great enhancement within the golf manufacturing industry. Looking forward to future video in how this fitting goes. Single digit handicap is right around the corner for you Ron. Thank you TXG for bringing a player of Ron's skill level for us to watch. Cheers....

    With the hundreds of thousands of golf videos out there, it's nice to see one with an "average," somewhat flawed swing (like mine!). Most of the videos out there are golf pros hitting the ball a mile down range with a tour-style swing. Those don't give many of us much value. Big thanks to Ron for participating--keep grinding!

    Very interesting to see how analytical Ron is. I went the complete opposite and asked my fitter to tell me nothing about the clubs i tried so my ideas couldn't influence me. Different but it works for Ron and what a great improvement!

    So appreciative of this video. I'm not quite as old as Ron (I'm 56), but have been seeing my age related swing changes have an effect on my game over the last couple years. I've been playing the JPX 900 Forged the last two seasons thinking that would be my last "player" type set. I'm also an 11 handicap working to get to single figures and see hope for me staying in this type of club for several more years yet! Thanks so much for asking Ron to do this video and sharing his experience with us! What great work you and your team do!

    I'm a 8.6 handicaper and I'm gaming a set of Mizuno jpx919 tour. I've never think about playing a blade set until I tried them at the store and it performed great and I didn't expect that. One thing I knew is you have to feel comfortable, you have to like the club you are playing and it makes you feel to go out to the course everyday, whether its a blade or not blade. And shaft option is also an important factor as well. Just play whatever you comfortable with and performs well. Love your contents TXG, hopefully get fitting with you guys somedays. :)

      1st of all, great video for getting fitted...When I got fitted, I told the fitter, do not tell me what iron club I'm going to hit..Ist started with a 7 iron, but not knowing manufacture...He new I was looking for a hight ball flight.. after all the numbers were calculated and all said and done, I ended up with Muzuno H4.....I think not knowing is better when getting fitted....PS.. I hate to say it, for a 11 or 12 Handicapier, I think a golfer needs to be honest with himself, on what his skills really are....If I'm wrong, I apologized, but just didnt see it in his fitting Secession

    I play every day (weather permitting in Scotland) and I feel I am hitting the ball longer and it is not with speed, but slowing the swing down/relaxing instead at thrashing at the ball in my younger day's! But I will take a visit to be fitted for clubs! Many thanks!

    As another 'senior' and reasonably fit, play all year around, 120+ rounds a year, at a recent club fitting I found that the fitting process of hitting as many ball in a session as I would in a round, I tended to feel a little tired, especially as I had back surgery at the beginning of last year. Keep up the good, interesting vlogs.

    • @philipsmith5306
      @philipsmith5306 Před 5 lety

      Had a similar fitting at Sandringham last year, had been off 9-10 for years, not making headway, had an hour and a half fitting, hit around 120+ balls, returning from knee surgery and now down to 7 and playing consistently to it. I accept the point that it can be tiring hitting that many balls in the time you would take to play a round .

    Great video I'm 71 similar swing speed so relatable I'd like to see some comments and talk about the Ron's tendency to have a way tow down strike. Logic would say go more upright which I know is wrong. Can't wait to see the rest of Ron's fit.
    Cheers from NorCal

    *Note to Ron*: I've got old Mizunos (T-Zoid Pro) and love them. My plan is to not replace them. I know at some point I will. I've hit several irons among them the Titleist MB's and the Mizuno MP 18's. The fitter started me out with the SC and then moved me to the MB's. I honestly couldn't tell the difference. I felt like you, I'm not worthy, of the Mizuno MP 18. The fitter, who did not get paid commission, said that if you're comfortable hitting them and they work for you, then go for it. I can say from experience that there's nothing that feels like a Mizuno. Thanks, Ron, for being will to show your swing to the rest of us. It's also good to know that we here in Canada finally have a quality fitter at home.
    I love listening to the conversation of a regular guy who doesn't necessarily use the right terms and isn't aware of all the technical aspects of the golf swing, as most of us aren't. I've had a question brewing for some time which I need to have addressed for my own peace of mind. At several points you (Ian) talk with Ron about the sole width which influences turf interaction. Yes, that's true, there's no doubt. But, if the sole purpose of the iron is to hit the ball first then what does it matter if it's a knife or a shovel? In the past couple of years, I have remade my swing into a more shallow, slight in to out/neutral, and draw my irons. I've spent winters (live in Wpg where that gives me lots of time) working on strike accuracy. That means hitting the ground after the ball. To my way of thinking, the only place where sole, and grind comes into play) is important is with higher lofted clubs and leading edge height (opening a wedge). Please do keep Ron in your stable. From my humble perspective, with some minor swing changes he could increase distance and strike quality.

    • @ianfrasergolf
      @ianfrasergolf Před 5 lety +1

      Glenn Wiebe sole width is very important for shallow players like Ron, you are right in saying the objective is ball first contact. However the shallow player has to be very careful not to enter the turf to soon as the bottom of their golf swing is closer to the ball. We like angle of attack to be 2-4 degrees down so that low point is way out out ahead of the golf ball. This will minimize heavy strikes. Go to 17.05 in the video where we explain this for a little more clarity. Thanks for watching Glenn!! 👍🏻

      It is NOT about the manufacture, it is about what Works best for the player through the fitting process. Over the past few years, the quilty of golf irons, driver, hybrids, shafts, and balls have gone up greatly; moreover, in 2019 the bar has been taken even higher.

      I hit JPX 900 and 900 forged irons when I was getting fit for my last set of irons. Something about them felt off. As soon as I started hitting my Ping i200s, I knew I would order them. Mizuno makes great irons but they don't work for everybody.
