txg.ca - More awesome results for Sam this time with an iron fitting! We took his iron game to the next level by adjusting lie angle and going to a new high ball speed iron head, leading to more distance, better forgiveness on mishits and better overall consistency.

Great vid, but this was FIVE YEARS AGO! Wish you had more examples of high handicappers getting fit. Maybe I’m not seeing them because it isn’t called out in the title? Anyway, I picked up some good info for my club fitting.
I like that you showed how the lie angle on his existing set could be adjusted. I’m sure he’d be excited that you straightened the shape of his shot, but who wouldn’t want an additional 20 yards?!

The Sam series has been absolutely phenomenal!! Fitting him thru the entire bag clearly demonstrated the kind of improvement an average golfer could potentially experience with a high quality fitting. It's amazing how small adjustments can deliver big rewards in dispersion, distance and overall confidence. Considering how the fitting process went for him, seems that the ideal fitting sequence should be Driver - Irons - Hybrid/Woods - Wedges, correct?
You guys are the absolute best - learning a lot and always looking forward to your next video!

After playing the same set of irons for 20 years, This video motivated me to get my first ever club fitting and boy do I wish I did it year’s ago! I was hitting my 7 iron an average of 134 yards with it pulling left and struggling to not hit it fat. I learned that my lie was off and that I have a moderate swing speed. Fitter put Wilson D7’s in my hand with lie adjusted and regular flex graphite shafts. This new fit sent the ball on average 160 yards with minimal dispersion! For context, I could NOT hit my old 5 iron as far and good as this 7 iron! Thank you gents for the content and making the fitting process feel less intimidating! I would have never gone in to do this without this type of content!

So my son and I are big golf nerds. Always looking to learn more about the technology we have today. The first few videos I watched from you guys (I don't remember which ones they were since I've watched so many), I thought you guys talked too much and almost stopped watching your videos. But then I caught a few where you provided some real in depth explanations and I suddenly realized how wrong I was to dismiss what you guys posted.
This fitting video might be a year old but I just saw it now and I'm absolutely shocked with the gains from a change you guys made. Absolutely unreal. I started with the wedge fitting video and continued with this one. My son and I were just staring at the screen mouth wide open at the improvements from just changing the lie angle. I never thought that would happen from such a simple adjustment. But I guess in Sam's case, his type of swing called for that sort of adjustment. But I still never thought the results would be so drastic. Bravo guys.
If you guys were local to me I think I'd be hopping into my car right now and heading over for a fitting...well, once we can actually leave the house again. It's making me think about a fitting at a club champion (probably the best we have locally). Do you have any suggestions for local fitters?? I'm in a town called Federal Way in Washington state. It's about 40 minutes south of Seattle. Just thought I'd ask. Seems like you know some people.
Thanks for all the information. We're watching lots on youtube these days since we can't exactly hit the golf course. Keep up the great videos.

For many people (like Sam and myself), 5 or even 6 iron should be the longest iron in their bag if the 6 iron is 26-27 degrees . I actually have 2 "7" irons in my bag now, because i have a mixed set of blades in my p-7, and more game improvement irons in my 7-5. Kinda wacky - but it works well...

This is my second viewing of this video and now I get what you guys are saying. Just changing the lie angle on his existing clubs was a huge improvement in my opinion. Especially if you are on a budget like I am. I have twins in college at the moment. I did a lie board fitting years ago and I have gotten every set of clubs since set to that spec. (1 degree flat). But watching this makes me see that I can get some serious help hitting a draw by just going 1 degree upright. I normally hit the ball dead straight with all my clubs. Since I started playing golf that has been my natural ball flight. I have tried to fade and draw the ball but that has proven extremely difficult for me. I am not Apex long by any means. I am headed to the golf club in the morning to see if I can get properly fit. I want those 10 more yards Sam got, lol😂 Thanks for posting this informative video. Awesome as usual guys - well done. After 10+ years off of golf with an elbow injury, I bought myself these Apex irons early last year as I re-hit the range and needed some old man clubs versus my old forged cavity back blades with heavy extra stiff 6.5 Rifle shafts - and I too was shocked by the difference - I'm actually longer now than I was a decade ago pre injury. As a better player than Sam, I actually went with their Recoil Graphite shaft to give me dampening for my elbow injury and have been stunned on how arrow straight the Regular Flex Graphite Recoils are - just amazed at their performance. As an FYI, the longest Apex iron I use is their 5 iron as it is exactly the loft of my old blade 4 iron and that is my 190 ish club - hybrids after that. I have told a few local people about your business so hopefully they will be coming by - I still have to book my appointment. Fantastic stuff. Paul.

Really good to see the follow through on irons. I did it the other way around starting with an irons fitting and equally as a result changed sets and shafts (and lie - in my case going 2 flat). I wanted to just add that I had the same experience that once the irons, driver (still ongoing) and hybrids and 5 wood review were done and when I then took to the course on a regular basis i ended up with some redundancy now as a result dropping one iron in favour of a hybrid, dropping 5 wood also in favour of a longer hybrid. So the gapping issue becomes a key stage with or as part of a fitting. Indeed that is part of my current dilemma with the driver and perhaps also the need to revisit the 5 wood. So that they all (very different makes - something else to add as no longer look at one make or even one set of irons but individual clubs (or groups of clubs when it comes to irons like gap-wedges as one group; 7/8 -pw as another; and hybrids or longer irons as another group as the case may be). Look forward to seeing the wedges fitting. And dont forget the putter too as indeed one does more puts a round than even with any other club - i learned and changed my putter inadvertently when using my hybrid as a putter with much better effect consistently than my previous putter! What a self taught lesson. Great clip. Sam should be down to single figures by now - what a wonderful feeling he must have!

Be interesting to hear more feedback from Sam in the future as Ian indicated, as well what Sam decides his 2018 bag will contain, good luck Sam on your golf goals and the enjoyable journey. I am really looking forward to seeing the putter fit process coming up in the future.

At around 4:10, Ian, you go over the ballpark range for how long Shawn should be hitting his 6 iron. Could you do a video in the near future regarding what ideal yardages should be relative to swing/ball speeds? Much appreciated!

Lots of variables there John but for Sam with ~82MPH getting 170 yards was great, and you'll see in the video that comes out on Saturday with a faster swing speed player (~92MPH) we look for around 190 yards.

Cool. Glad you adjusted his original set. I guess a fitting across the entire set is essential,as you say his hybrid now won’t fit with the irons. Still, I’ve not seen a 20 handicapper hit so consistently. His putting must be bad, get that done and he’ll be off 11 next week.

It’s so difficult to compare the benefit of the Apex with a 2-3 degree difference in loft/club length. I hope the industry becomes more transparent and uses loft numbers on the clubs as with wedges. I had a club fitting recently and if I’m being honest i was very keen to get new irons as I’d had my Mizuno MX23’s for 14years , which I’d had fitted. Surprisingly the fitter sent me away saying he couldn’t improve on the fit and at 14 hhcp my money would be better spent on lessons in my weak areas(together with regripping everything in my bag for consistency).

That was brilliant! Extremely smart move to adjust Sam’s current irons to match the Modus.......eliminated the “what if” from the session. I’m afraid Ian is just a one of a kind fitter, always problem solving for best results and I’ll likely never find that experience locally (Bay Area, Northern California). However, I’m wondering if you’re planning a fitting tour in the future? Maybe partner with golf galaxy? It’s a crazy idea..... hoping to one day make it to TXG

Amazing. Wish I was local to you guys. Extra level of fitting I have not found in Cincinnati. While I love my fitted z785. From trackman. I would love to have access to gc4 to see face angle and all the extra data. You guys are stellar!

I balked at a fitting for a long time but then needed to get a new set due to wear n tear; started with driver,3,5 woods... went back and did my new irons after crushing my woods for the first time in my life. Do yourself a favor and get a fotting

Great video.Dynamic lie is far more important than getting a static fit.For instance according to Pings static fit measurements I'm Standard length with a blue dot lie angle.Dynamically I'm a plus half inch shaft length and a white dot lie angle.
