To clarify, Zak Brown is McLaren Racing CEO. McLaren Automotive has a different CEO (Michael Leiters)
Your issues are caused by operator error. Over run is when you lift off the throttle and coast, not when you rev the nuts off it
If my boss was driving a 288gto, id just think the guy has taste!
As an Artura owner, your interpretation of the hybrid is complete overkill. Got mine in November and never had an issue with the battery recharge. Just put it in Sport or Track and regen’s in the background. The “conditioning” of the engine for 20 seconds is never an issue in real life. I set off in hybrid, leave the village, switch to Comfort, and 20 seconds later you are all good. Now do not get me wrong had my fair share of small software glitches, but they are all “ghost” none of them are actual issues.
Are you surprised? Tony and Sam jumping to conclusions without doing any research?
I listen to Tony and Sam's show for entertainment supposes, but would I take their advise or recommendations (especially that of Sam), never!
Nice to see a McLaren owner stand up and say how it is, Thanks.
I got mine in Feb and engine and recharge has been great. YOu have to put it in Track to charge it fast. Leaving it on Electric for that time does not help on recharging. This is a user issue and not a car issue
@@ronniet906 in part its the nature of the review/influencer industry, especially in automotive.. cars are too complicated to fully assess in a day/few days. They do their best but there should be more caveats to what they say
Over run is a very different thing to over rev
Zak Brown is not group CEO, he’s the CEO of McLaren Racing only. Michael Leiters is the Automotive CEO.
Regarding the McLaren Arthur ! I think you said it regenerated the battery on "the over run" . So this would be when you lift off the throttle and coast. Not revving the tits off it in first gear ! The turning wheels would generate a charge that is sent back to the battery. It would be interesting to see if the car (from cold start) would move under engine power straight away, if Race or higher mode was selected?
Exactly this, I can’t believe someone who is supposedly a car person doesn’t know what “over run” is.
Isn’t overrun when you lift off the throttle, so completely different to over revving? So you should be recharging the battery every time you lift off the throttle whenever you’re slowing down?
Yes. That whole chat was bad.
Yes. I can’t believe they don’t understand the basics of an engine
Agree, how does Sam not know what the over run is? I question his car knowledge for someone who’s made it his job.
Bit unfair with the McLaren chat if you didn’t have enough time with the car. Could’ve called up the team to understand it better
Just bought a V8S F-Type based on your last video Sam. I cannot believe the value for car it is. incredible car!
Congratulations good choice
Congrats pre face lift is gorgeous
@@nathandrake6531 Thanks, I have to agree about the early ones being the best looking. I ended up with Firesand Orange which I think there were only a few hundred made. Absolutely stoked about the looks/noise!
@@F1Fan3025 awesome 👌 enjoy it
Sounds like McLaren has had a bashing when Sam ain’t got a clue on how to use the cars systems
I must say it sounded like you had absolutely no idea what you were on about with the Artura battery/recharging situation. Not sure if thats your fault or Mclarens. Need clarification ASAP haha.
Happy birthday Tony you legend 🎉🎉!! The way you wind Sam up is priceless keep the wicked content coming the pair of you I watch every episode so inspirational !!
i love his english😂
i get in the car and make my own assumption😂
i love it🎉
When my son and I visited the Pagani factory a few years ago, Horacio drove up to the front door in a Ferrari 😊
What model?
Were you buying one?
Happy Happy birthday Tony!! Live it large young man!!
Happy birthday, Tony!
May the wind continue to be at your back.
Nice!
Man if you dont know how the artura works don't blame the car. Over run is when you come of throttle not over reving it😂
When Mclaren said it recharges on the 'overrun' they may have been referring to something quite specific. The term "overrun" refers to the engine running when you are not on throttle but are in gear i.e. the situation where you get engine braking. If they haven't implemented a system that taps some of the power for the battery when you are on constant throttle e.g. motorway, then they've missed a trick, but if they haven't then that might not be a software change; it might need different hardware.
Wow. He's not very technical, but it shouldn't be that complicated.
@@user-io4sr7vg1v Agree, his experience suggests either something isn't set up right or he hasn't understood what settings to use. But either way, it should just work without any need to dig through menus. I can't help wondering if the car has a fault. It would be astounding to discover it doesn't just work.
@@ric355 a bit above that comment an Artutro owner commented that it just works and that it basicly was Sams fault
Cheers. It would certainly be a screw up if it didn't.
Overrun isnt over rev. Effectively it’s engine braking.
Tony giving his best 'I'm unconvinced' mode.
Sam driving in first gear only but doesn't think to ring someone at McLaren...
Battery regeneration created by over run would be when you lift off the gas, not when you drive the car for 20 minutes in 1st gear....oh my goodness, some poor soul is going to end up buying that very car.
Project 8 for the win to replace the F Type. Perfect family saloon 😂
Don't think there's anything wrong with CEOs having cars from other manufacturers. It's all passion for cars/motorsport at the end of the day.
Lotus Emira coments arnt correct , the Fisrt edition are £76K and the cheapest are £82.5 k so there are none under, plus Lotus have announced that they are putting the price to £82K from june . I love you guy but please fact check first
Someone tell Sam that over run and over rev are two different things
Was lucky enough to visit MTC on a work trip, meeting Ricciardo just before he left - one of the most incredible places I've ever been, and share the sentiments of yours of failing to understand how they struggle as a company when everything in their buildings are built for success. Seems incredibly non-sensical. But an impressive place none-the-less.
I was speaking with a friend of mine who is an ex-McLaren employee and is still good friends with his old colleagues. We spoke about the Artura in Decmber 2021, he said that the delays were because of gearbox teething issues caused by the integration of a hybrid system. The issues were so bad that cars would just stop dead or have very dodgy power delivery, and McLaren really struggled to make it work, especially as the "Usual covid issues" were also plaguing the supply chain.
Zak Brown is the CEO of McLaren Racing NOT McLaren Automotive. The CEO of McLaren Automotive is Michael Leiters.
Happy birthday Tony!
Sam,
It was good of you to address the controversy about synthetic fuels in your latest podcast. Accepting that there isn’t a one size fits all solution with great respect, you are still missing the point though.
Using internal combustion to power a vehicle is around 5 times less efficient than using renewable electricity to power an EV. You just need to consider the (waste) heat generated by burning fuels (whether fossil or synthetic) to realise why (how hot does an ICE vehicle get compared to how hot does an EV get?) Appealing to innovation is fine, but it cannot overcome this basic thermodynamic principle. Until nuclear fusion is developed we simply don’t have that amount of renewable energy to waste.
Regarding Porsche’s synthetic fuel, they are using CO2 from a beer factory which otherwise would be sequestered and not released into the atmosphere. As such it is not actually carbon neutral. Only when they start using direct atmospheric carbon capture can they claim to be truly carbon neutral. Next time they invite you to their facility you need to ask them directly when this will happen and whether this can be scaled up to the amount required.
Love the podcast, but it’s just irritating to see equivalence given to arguments that are in fact very different in how credible they are when looked at critically.
A little more preparation on Zak Brown and it would have been apparent that he’s a HUGE car collector and he probably drives many cars to work , and on some days a Ferrari, end of
Happy birthday Twiggy..............and Tony! Loved the Patagonia footage and all this energy despite having a wee one.
Lads, record an extra episode about the new V12 Lambo as it will for sure give Your channel a lot of new traffic.
Happy Birthday Tony 🤙🏾 ; I Feel The Sameway About Birthdays
Happy birthday Tony! Love the show and hope you have a great day. Treat yourself to a Cayman GT4 RS.
Interesting fact the 3.0 V6 used in the 296 GTB is actually the engine Aston Martin developed before Moers binned it. It was then taken to Maranello and Ferrari decided to use it
Love you Tony ❤ all the best for you from Australia. You are awesome bloke and every Thursday for me is wicked knowing I get to see this podcast 😊😊😊
Always wondered with hybrid cars that when engine kicks in from cold and allows full revs how long the engine will last, maybe McLaren have thought the same.
First 15 minutes of this is Gold for auto podcast discussion Keep on that beat going forward
I always find it interesting when other people, like the smoking tire for instance, have a totally different view of a car. Matt loved the Artura. It seems more likely to me that Sam here, somehow didn't understand how the car worked, rather than McClaren actually made a car with such obvious defects.
Judging from other comments he doesn't know how the car works. He has the same problem with other technology, thats why I now turn away when they start on a technology issue, because they both have no clue
Love the pod, always look forward to Thursday afternoon! Just fyi Zak Brown is only the CEO of McLaren racing, not the automotive side 🙂
Happy birthday Tony, looking forward to your view on the new Lambo
Happy Birthday Tony. Yes, it's another day. But, consider it as your annual review. What did you enjoy in the last year? What did you hate? What were you not able to do last year that you wanted next year?
The problem is the anti car environmentalists will never be satisfied enough to stop their war on cars. They are already claiming that particulate pollution from brake use and tyres is more harmful than diesel emissions so this would include EV’s.
Happy Birthday Tony!
I hope Sam contacted mcclaren to clarify this situation. It would otherwise appear counter intuitive
Happy birthday Tony (and you fabulous dog), love you input. But on synth fuel, what is ‘tiny,’ is the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere (0.04%). It is not an issue and there is no crisis.
Happy Birthday Tony :)
Happy Birthday!
McLaren doesn't have QA-department. If it does, it must be the worst one in automotive industry.
Happy birthday big Tone, you filthy rich man. Have a great day.
Happy birthday tony
Happy birthday T!
The Artura is not a small car compared to the 570S, they are virtually the same overall size with the Artura having a shorter wheelbase of just 30mm (1.8 inches). I have owned a 570S and sat in the Artura, pretty much same size cars.
Money shouts, wealth whispers
I don't think Zak Brown goes to work everyday in that classic Ferrari. You probably caught him on his non-McLaren or "regular" car day. As you clarified later, Zak is McLaren Racing CEO, not the automotive division, which is Michael Leiters.
Cadded away on the Artur in Gothenburg already spring 2018, its been going on that car! But it came out very well me thinks
My boss is a multi millionaire, daily drives an m5 CS. Had the first one in the uk
Sometimes turns up in a mk1 escort rally car 😂
I admire the guy but I love cars so 🤷♂️
Come on Tony, who just drives the car straight away from a cold start
happy bday! 🎂🎂🎂
Happy birthday, Tony!!
the baldy bloke is clueless
The bald one with or without glasses?
Happy birthday Tony
I had a 570s. Worst car I've owned. I'm never going back to mclaren, especially as a hybrid. What a disaster
Was it due to things breaking? But aside from that, how was the car when running well? When it was good, was it good?
@Jay Dee everything broke. It showed up with the ac not working. And door faults. Anytime i was washed it would throw crazy faults. The firewall detached. The car could never recognize the key fob. I had to waive it around the car. There wasn't a single time I drove it where something didn't seem to go wrong. And that's just what I remember from 2018.
@@gtrzero2157 Damn. Wow.
@@user-io4sr7vg1v car was awesome when running!!!
McLaren are busy laying off people and struggling for cash and the boss turns up in a 288 GTO .. Completely inappropriate. Also, no mention of Michael Leiters?
Happy birthday Tonyyyyyyyyyy!!!
Michael Leiters is CEO of mclaren automotive........
I think every boss should drive a car like that. Because when the shit hits the fan he takes the flack for it so he deserves the reward when it’s going good.
Another week watching you from Spain. Great content my friends!
And happy bday to Tony, what a boss!
There was two local news stories last week featuring range rovers….one was that two had been stolen, one from outside a local business at midday and the other outside a house. The second news story was a Range Rover was set on fire outside a house!. Really appealing in terms of wanting a Range Rover 😂😂😂.
Zach would have asked himself whether or not he should be driving a competitor's car.
Happy Birthday!!
Activating lift in a sports series takes 1 second, hit up on the stalk twice, you don’t need to go into the menu to activate it…
Happy Birthday Tony!! 🎉🎂🎈🚗💨
As long as he’s not turning up to make folk redundant in the 288GTO, I applaud the fact he’s using it and letting staff see it
McLaren are a tech company first, automaker second, which makes it increasingly worrying they can't do either right!
I would request employee of the month to get a passenger ride in the 288 :)
Happy birthday mate ,your right no such thing as a green car
Jokes on you, my boss is my dad! If he had 288 GTO I'd be very happy 😂
Happy birthday, Tony! 🎉
Read the bloody manual Sam FFS.
Absolutely gained respect. Range Rover Sport. Perfect choice! Super excited for you.
Happy birthday Tony and Twiggy!
So you hate on McLaren a lot because of reliability etc, but did your own cars break down or just hearsay?
Look at it this way. The synthetic fuel is essentially recycling gas. It takes the current CO2 in the air and turns it into fuel.
Re the Artura, why not just just plug it in? The battery is tiny and wouldn’t take any time to charge at all. Sure the hybrid system is for performance not really economy but still driving around in 1st would have terrible effects on the efficiency.
He drove around in first because he doesn't understand the difference between overrun and over revving. His technology ignorance is really frustrating and listening to the podcast is slowly turning me away from the main channel, because I know he has very little clue about what he is talking about.
Happy bday Tony! Sam, route the cable for your blue boom arm though the slot on the back of it 😆. Awesome pod as usual
Never seen this before.... bloody hell.... think I will leave it at that 👀
Just change the tires and you'll be fine mate until the special arrives at least. The haptics have ruined the ferrari's a bit anyway and everything you didn't like about the Roma is going to be present in the 296. Other than it being mid engined etc. Always get the road car and just get decent tires, it'll be sound. Unless you want a car for track only i feel like the track specials are a bit of a waste anyways :P Scotland trips etc general use will be ruined by the track pack, I wouldn't worry about it.
Have you discussed the topic of hydrogen fuel cells and hydrogen combustion engines? Because that would forgoe the need for synthetic fuels for new cars, especially because you have to create hydrogen gas to mix it with airborne carbon molecules to in turn make the hyddrocarbons, which the synthetic fuels are based on. So it would save energy, time and money to forgoe the carbon capture process, for large scale production, and just use the already produced hydrogen directly in hydrogen powered vehicles.
So what does everyone think of the revuelto?
Had to check what the translation of revuelto is in English.
So it would be named the Lamborghini scrambled 😂 doesn’t quite have the same ring to it as Murcielago or Diablo I must admit!
@@jamzization Whilst you are correct Revuelto does mean scrambled in Spanish. It was also the name of a Spanish fighting bull in the late 1800’s . Who jumped into the crowd 8 times during his career
@@jamzization well they did scramble the flagship formula a bit with the hybrid motor
so question is - Artura or 296? Which is the preferred vchoice?
Happy bday, tony!!
Happy Birthday Tony. I love this podcast. All the best. Kind regards, Richard U.K
The thing with e-fuels is that the efficiency producing is really low. Therefore in developed countries it is better to use the electricity for driving the cars than produce fuel. However if they start producing electricity in for example Sahara there is no way of getting the power to Europe thus better to convert it to e-fuel
Tony with that Hat!! LOL almost missed it!
Tony you had a million standard 488 GTBs and that wasn’t a track focussed car, I think you’ll be fine with the 296
Happy birthday, Tony :))
Where is the birthday dog?
Sam's mam's farm
Hbd Mr Tony.
