I love the battle with Tenzin so much bc it shows that pure talent cant compare with true mastery. And tenzin was never outmatch by any of the four he was just out numbered.
Zaheer is not pure talent. He actually is very good at air bending because he has practiced it a lot long before getting the power. He learned the art because his original plan was to kidnap korra and use members of the red lotus to teach her the elements. And he planned to be her airbending teacher. Of course, you just can't get as good as tenzin by studying the theory

I really appreciate the fact: Tenzin had him beat. The only time in either series you see Airbender vs Airbender, and the T-man himself rises to the occasion. But I like how, in both signature 1v1 moments Zaheer has this season, he loses.
A lot of people were disappointed in how kya fought ming hua. I was too when i first watched the show. But your appreciation for it is amazing. Kya is no longer in her prime and was more of a healer than a fighter.
Not to mention, Ming-Hua's fighting style is very unique, involving her becoming incredibly proficient in water bending techniques that are usually not regularly used, especially not constantly.
@@watershipdowneyjr Exactly, like Toph she overcame her disability with a mastery of her element that was way deeper than any normal bender would reach because it was needed just for her to take part in the world around her. Their bending is a part of them and they're so at one with it that only really the avatar reaches such ability.
Aang & Katara's children fighting against the Red Lotus will always be animation platinum for me ⭐ I remember watching their fight years ago and I was holding my breath the entire time. I was literally at the edge of my seat the whole fight! Can't wait for you 2 to see the next eps!
I knew kya would lose because it was said she focused and specialized in healing waterbending and keep in mind Ming Hua was the equivalent of toph in waterbending. So yeah not surprised Kya was getting rocked but she did surprise me with her tactician skills she held her own for a minute in that fight. Also Zaheer was regretting his life decisions until his homes rolled through punk move.
I love how this episode proves that as dangerous as Zaheer is he is still far from an airbending master. When they are jumping up the air temple Zaheer is simply leaping as high as he can while being boosted by air, while Tenzin is utilizing perfect spiral movements to float up with as little effort as possible. He doesn't think as three-dimensionally as a true airbender should.
17:57 I’d say saying he had Zaheer “matched” is underselling how well Tenzin was truly doing. Tenzin was getting the upper hand and every single engagement we saw of their fight. Zaheer would briefly manage to defend before Tenzin got a hit of him and then we’d see Zaheer disengage to get space only for Tenzin to constant be on his heels as he’d chase him down again… then repeat until they all started jumping Tenzin. I don’t believe we saw Zaheer land even 1 blow on Tenzin.
When the camera pans away from Tenzin getting ganged up on and you can only hear his cries for a second always makes me cry 💔 just knowing he’ll give his life to keep everyone safe, he’s a true hero and Aang would be proud 😭🩷
Tenzin owned zaheer, not only that but we can notice how he would still beat the 3 of them if it wasnt for the combustion freak, such a great character he is
as good as Zaheer is... he's no match for Tenzin as an airbender. Tenzin is a true airbending master at his peak. The only airbender that you can definitively say is better than him is Aang. Arguments can be made for Avatar Yang Chen (air bender avatar before Aang) Guru Laghima (First airbender to learn flight) and Monk Gyatso (was found surrounded by the dead bodies of several firebenders he killed on the day of the comet ie when they are at their most powerful)
The final episodes of this season are so freakin good. This is definitely a top episode in Korra for me. Seeing you two get as hyped as I was when I first watched it, was great. ^^
If you pay close attention to Zaheer, you can actually see that he wasn't trying to fight Tenzin at all, his main point was to dodge, evade and kite tenzin as much as possible, He probably knew he would get his ass whopped in 1v1, so he waited for Boomi and Kya to fall, and then took Tenzin 4v1
I always laugh that Mako and Bolin's grandmother stopping to grab the queens pictures. I think it's a nod to something I heard about North Korea where supposedly you'll be thrown in prison if you don't save your government issued picture of the dictator from a house fire.
I guess it's possible Zaheer could have been playing a trick on Korra and pretended to be Iroh in the Spirit World. Cause ya know, Zaheer is a shapeshifter. 😁

Imo, Zaheer is the weakest of the 4 when it comes to bending, while Tenzin is the strongest of his siblings. Tenzin was DEFINITELY winning in that fight, if P'Li hadn't intervened. I also loved Kya vs Ming Hua. You can tell that Ming Hua's style is different from most water benders and Kya was struggling with her extreme agility and aggression, but she still put up a proper fight. Especially given that she's more of a healer than a fighter. Loved seeing it!
Definitely this is one of the best episodes, though I have to say this finale goes so hard! Tenzin is a true master airbender where as Zaheer is a very gifted and well read airbender but not enough experience. Kya is a master waterbender but is not in her prime. Bumi is still a new fledgling airbender despite being a military expert. Going against the lavabender he did amazing despite not being a master bender. Kai does have huge balls for his courage! Going from his little thief origins to being such a badass I love the little dude. This episode hit me just as hard as you guys my first round. Also got to say, Zaheer saying to Tenzin he has no choice and Tenzin center frame looking straight at your soul and saying "Yes I do..." Chills. Can't wait for next 2 episodes!
Spartan, I knew you would be so happy about this episode! The entire clash between siblings and the Red Lotus is simply great, but the duel between Tenzin and Zaheer is one of my favorite in the entire series! I mean, it is the only proper airbending vs airbending fight in the entire franchise, or rather the first one in almost 200 years (!) in-universe and the choreography alone is amazing! Even more so when you take into account how vastly different their moves, attacks and defense techniques are, despite sharing the same bending abilities, just like Pudgey noticed. Looking forward to the next episode!
This is definitely a solid episode, the fights in this season have a lot of interesting pieces in them with all of the characters now established. Love finally seeing an airbendervs airbender fight
The thing about fighting an Airbender is that it's so hard to keep up or land a hit on them, now imagine trying to do that to a Master Airbender. It still boggles my mind how the fire nation army nearly wiped out all the Air nomads, the only explanation is that they were ambushed (which is very hard to do with all their spiritual abilities) and or ganged up on with absolutely no escape, leading to a couple of Air nomads even losing their bending.
@@Vladoominator I'd really love it if the next Avatar (if ever a next one is created) tackles what exactly happened on the days leading up to that moment, down to exactly how the fire nation army carried out their atrocities and even after everything (kinda like the Avatar Wan Chronicles in Korra), I know the later events are addressed in the comics (such as the laying of traps for the few survivors), but I wanna see the actual the events that transpired on the day of sozin's comet. Most importantly, I wanna see Monk Gyatso turn an entire room or atmosphere full of comet powered psychos into a vacuum, I feel he's the only character that can challenge uncle Iroh's awesomeness status.
I want to take this time to give Tenzin his flowers. He kept Zaheer on his toes. Lmao Bumi running away from the lava bender is a mood. When the floor is lava, you have to find high ground.😂😂😂
idk if anyone's pointed this out to you, but: The building Mako & Bolin's family lived in sure looked a lot like the building Zuko & Iroh lived in when they first arrived in Ba Sing Se's Lower Ring - possibly the same place :)

Omg completely forgot you guys were on this specific episode, and now I can enjoy it on my day off with a cup of coffee 😍 When it first aired, I didn't realize how much I loved this episode until my series re-watch. Now I choke up every time watching Tenzin fight for his family like a badass ✌

Yeah but Katara got good at fighting by coming up against fire nation soldiers and other foes, and as far as we know Kya grew up in peace times and never had to hone her fighting skills against fierce opponents. If she ever did any fighting it was probably just sparring in a controlled environment.
Tenzin definitely was mopping the floor with Zaheer, as a true Airbending master that he is, but of course his gang had to jump in, and even then, Tenzin was doing well fighting 3 on 1, but then the sniper lady hitting him from above, was just too much. But yeah, Tenzin was definitely winning that fight. This episode showed how strong Tenzin really is and can be, when pushed.
Finally you get to see my man tenzin be a beast wish he had more fights like vs Unalaq who was corrupting Jinora's and ruining his relationship with korra
With this episode brings something new to the Avatar universe: extremist idea and what it brings 7:36 Iroh 🥲, good to see you again 8:08 and that's why getting rid off the avatar connection was bad idea but ok
Just wait. Next episode…you’ll see why I’m convinced Zaheer is one of the most powerful airbenders in history. Easily more powerful than any living airbender in AtLA or LoK because of his RAPID learning curve.
What I love about this episode is we get to see a master Airbender who isn’t the avatar go full out. Before this every time an Airbender just sent it we were always watching the avatar do it. But Tenzin actually showed that he was probably good enough to take on 3 of the 4 Red Lotus by himself, but 4 was just too many for him. He was absolutely WHOOPING ZAHEERS ASS in the one on one, and he even managed to knock down Zaheer and Ghazan and avoid Ming-Hua’s attacks when those 3 surrounded him but P’Li was just a bit too much for him. Absolute legend though and this is a top 3 scene in all of ATLA and TLOK for me.
Tenzin is a master while zaheer just an airbender fanboy (but also a good one tho).. but tenzin would never lose in 1v1 against zaheer, he lose because there 4 of them.. Kya is a healer not a fighter, but she can really give a good fight, but again she's not a fighter. Bumi was a non bender, he fighting is probably different when he was a general, probably use a weapon.. now he just a begineer level airbender
This is why it makes me so sad when people say they don’t like Korra or try to compare it to ATLA. I can always tell they didn’t give the whole series a shot. Some of the later episodes have such great payoffs.
You know i think said this somewhere else. I feel like Bumi could have bested Zaheer if the writers wanted that plot point. Bumi grew up with two airbenders. He spent his life as a non bending fighter, like Zaheer. And now he is an airbender. He should able to pick up Zaheer’s tricks and blend them with traditional airbending. He is good at thinking outside the box and because he has experience fighting airbenders Zaheer big advantage is null.
Yeah this definitely my favorite episode of _LOK_ and possibly of both the Avatar series. Maybe only one episode of _ATLA_ tops it for me but even then it’s not concrete, I can go back and forth between the 2.
In a way, the last few episodes of S3 almost feel like the last few episodes of S4 of Breaking Bad. High stakes/intensity and they string together so well.
I ain't gonna lie, I think Tenzin had them 3 on 1 lol. Until the Combustion Bender came, Zaheer didn't get one hit on Tenzin. Its unfortunate Bumi still new and isn't on the level of benders for all those years or he obviously would of done better. Phenomenal episode and this was the one that officially solidified Tenzin as a real one. He showed glimpses of greatness but this was like, oh yeah thats Aangs son, he is about that life

Zaheer vs Tenzin is a prime example of a talented amateur vs an actual master. Zaheer was on the backfoot for the majority of their fight.
Tenzin deserves all the praise in the world. A true master. Fav character by far. 😭

They were ambushed. And the fire nation had the power of the comet. Without the comet they would have never been able to wipe out the airbenders.

Againts a true air master even zaheer was no match tenzin was dominating him up untill they all ganged up on him.
And here we see the difference between a talented amateur and a true Master. Tenzin was winning for sure.
Zaheer might be a good airbender but he isn’t a master and Tenzin shows that. Tenzin would wipe the floor with him if he wasn’t ganged up on

Just wait. Next episode…you’ll see why I’m convinced Zaheer is one of the most powerful airbenders in history. Easily more powerful than any living airbender in AtLA or LoK because of his RAPID learning curve.
Logically, Tezin was stronger than Zaheer. Because he was at the master level. Where as Zaheer was only using airbending as an extension of himself.
Tenzen was amazing
What I love about this episode is we get to see a master Airbender who isn’t the avatar go full out. Before this every time an Airbender just sent it we were always watching the avatar do it. But Tenzin actually showed that he was probably good enough to take on 3 of the 4 Red Lotus by himself, but 4 was just too many for him. He was absolutely WHOOPING ZAHEERS ASS in the one on one, and he even managed to knock down Zaheer and Ghazan and avoid Ming-Hua’s attacks when those 3 surrounded him but P’Li was just a bit too much for him. Absolute legend though and this is a top 3 scene in all of ATLA and TLOK for me.
It’s hard as tenzin is fighting not to kill but the red Lotus are
Tenzin is a master while zaheer just an airbender fanboy (but also a good one tho).. but tenzin would never lose in 1v1 against zaheer, he lose because there 4 of them.. Kya is a healer not a fighter, but she can really give a good fight, but again she's not a fighter. Bumi was a non bender, he fighting is probably different when he was a general, probably use a weapon.. now he just a begineer level airbender
This is why it makes me so sad when people say they don’t like Korra or try to compare it to ATLA. I can always tell they didn’t give the whole series a shot. Some of the later episodes have such great payoffs.

You know i think said this somewhere else. I feel like Bumi could have bested Zaheer if the writers wanted that plot point.
Bumi grew up with two airbenders. He spent his life as a non bending fighter, like Zaheer. And now he is an airbender. He should able to pick up Zaheer’s tricks and blend them with traditional airbending. He is good at thinking outside the box and because he has experience fighting airbenders Zaheer big advantage is null.
You guys gotta do Attack on Titan, and Vineland Saga. Both awesome.

Yeah this definitely my favorite episode of _LOK_ and possibly of both the Avatar series. Maybe only one episode of _ATLA_ tops it for me but even then it’s not concrete, I can go back and forth between the 2.
no joke though Tenzin could 1v2 no sweat and without the combustion bender he has a good chance at 1v3.

In a way, the last few episodes of S3 almost feel like the last few episodes of S4 of Breaking Bad. High stakes/intensity and they string together so well.

I ain't gonna lie, I think Tenzin had them 3 on 1 lol. Until the Combustion Bender came, Zaheer didn't get one hit on Tenzin. Its unfortunate Bumi still new and isn't on the level of benders for all those years or he obviously would of done better. Phenomenal episode and this was the one that officially solidified Tenzin as a real one. He showed glimpses of greatness but this was like, oh yeah thats Aangs son, he is about that life
