It’s crazy how much the culture lambasted this film for being too complex to understand and yet here in watching you two see EVERYTHING. For a complex film it lays its world building out real well for a new audience.

There’s a man who tells a story about his salvia trip where he lived a completely different life for years. He had a job, joined a band, made friends, and his friends in the trip convinced him his memories of his wife and children weren’t real. Then he woke up on his basement floor to his wife and children standing over him and proceeded to have Christmas dinner with them 😳 Another even worse story is someone had a salvia trip where they were a layer of paint on a barn for 30 years and experienced every second of it. Nightmare fuel.

I know what the director said about the ending but the fact that the only time you are able to see the kids faces is at the end I feel he is awake. Great movie none the less.

You guys being surprised that Jesse’s parents had a gun in the safe is a difference between American and Australia culture I think. I didn’t even bat an eye. Because it’s so common here for a family to have a gun in a safe somewhere in the house.

Why didn’t the kids age?

It’s absolutely science fiction. Science fiction is any fictional story that has to do with technological advancement and humanity’s relationship to it. The whole concept of the dream sharing technology is something that we obviously don’t have in real life. There’s a minor line from Arthur where he mentions that the military developed it to train soldiers. This is one of my favorite films ever and I think I’ve seen it over 10 times at this point. I was a sophomore in high school when it came out and as someone who mainly watched superhero movies and stuff like Transformers, it changed my perspective on the types of stories that films are capable of telling.

Your stories about your dreams were very familiar to me. I used to have The worst dreams! But every now and then I had dreams that basically gave my life meaning. Hard to decide what’s worse though when you wake up!

I love both Hopper and Joyce, but I hate the idea of them as a couple. Bob was so much healthier for her. She has so much anxiety, she needs a calmer partner to ground her rather than someone who is reactive and combative.

I think the greatest strength of this film is it has such a complicated and creative concept but it manages to teach you all the rules throughout. Even though at first it seems really confusing they do a great job of making you understand it. Compare this to Tenet, which has just as an amazing concept but its mechanics and story is so confusing and hard to follow that they literally tell you not to try and understand it in the movie!

Whats nougat? I thought you could get that everywhere. Nougat is made out of honey and hazelnuts and some other thing. It gets mixed together and then it hardens, so that you have this soft block of hazelnutty chocolate-ish thing. On its own it gets a bit too much, but paired with something else it can be really good. Its great in cakes, chocolate bars and homemade christmas candy.

35:22 I spotted some confusion/disappointment as to why exactly this happened, so I'm gonna explain: When Aragorn looked into the Palantir (the stone you see Saruman using, the same Pippin looked in to) and confronted Sauron, Sauron thought Aragorn had the ring. Sauron thought Aragorn had claimed the ring and wanted to challenge Sauron at the Black Gates. This explains why Sauron did basically nothing when he saw Frodo and Sam on their way to Orodruin (the volcano that Is mount doom). If Sauron knew Frodo had the ring, he would've sent for the Nazgul to get him straight away right there and then. I don't know if you noticed, but there were no guards stationed at the entrance to the volcano. Sauron could not in a million years believe that a quest was underway to destroy the ring. Whoever claimed the ring as their own would want it for himself/herself. We see the ring weighing more and more heavy on Frodo as they get closer to the mountain, this is because the closer you are to the mountain, the stronger pull the ring has on you. When you stand where Frodo stood, the ring would claim you fully, and there was no chance the bearer would throw it in by his/her own will. No matter how strong-willed you were. Basically, the plan was for the Nazgul, once the bearer was fully claimed by the ring, to meet him/her as he/she came out from the volcano. And either kill him/her, or capture and bring him/her to Sauron where he could claim it once again. 38:54 Smeagol was close to redemption. But all that basically went away when Faramir captured and let his men abuse him like they did. Like Gollum said: ''I told you he was tricksy, i told you he was false''. Smeagol felt as Frodo had betrayed him.

Here's my take, doesn't matter if the top drops, if Cobb is awake then he gets to see his kids grow up. If it doesn't he's still in Limbo and gets to see his kids grow up and that will have become his reality now, and to paraphrase the old man in the basement on Mombasa, "who are we to say otherwise?" This film, like the dreams in the narrative is layered. On the first layer it's a heist film where a team of specialists is put together, only they are leaving something rather than stealing something. On the next layer Ariadne, named after the Greek princess who gave Theseus the clue he needed to escape the Labyrinth of the minotaur, does the same for Cobb, helping him forgive himself for his Unwitting role in his wife's death. I think she was hired by Michael Caine's character to perform Inception on Cobb. Some say Cobb's wedding ring is his totem since he only has it on in the dream but I think it's a representation of his guilt, so when he does not have it at the end it represents him letting his guilt over Mal go. Finally, this film hints that every film we watch is a sort of dream we share with everyone who sees that film (note how the kick plays at the end, to wake us from the dream that is Inception).

This is 100% a science fiction film. Its doesn't just have to be space to be a science fiction film, e.g The Terminator, The Matrix, Children of Men.... etc.
