    I've fitted many locks for doors BUT many, many years ago hehe. It was before digital etc.
    I found this video very interesting, seeing it all coming together.
    Thanks Paul.

    As always, great work! A wedge under the door from each side keeps you from chasing the door around for this whole job.

    Great video and details. We also went with the Kwikset brand for our doors and I have to echo what you said. Easy install, clear instructions. The smart key system is great! Couldn't be happier with their products. I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

    I have rental properties and recently switched to kwikset. I can rekey after tenants move out or loose keys. Love it.

    The correct term is the backset measurement. The shorter backset is common on interior doors. I always use the longer exterior door backset even on interior doors.

    Very nice lock set.
    Have you considered installing security cameras?
    Now is the time at this stage of the build. Don't do wireless, but use PoE.

    • @BuildingTheHaven
      @BuildingTheHaven Před 4 lety +1

      We will be going with something like this for our build. Haven't decided on the brand just yet, but we will be running network drops throughout the house and have a designated space for a mini rack drawn up.

      @@BuildingTheHaven Something else to consider is monitoring. I have an HDMI splitter and ran 4 cables to smaller TV's, one in the living room, master bedroom, basement, and back porch. This way, if I hear any noise coming from outside, I can look at a monitor wherever I happen to be at the time.

      The doors themselves are steel but the frames are composite.

    I am not a locksmith or and expert on locks. However I have seen a lot of people say the this is not the way to go. From all I hear it does not take much force to break in through this lock. Do you remember the bump proof locks of a few years ago, that the big box stores had to pull because of the many videos of children with small hammers getting them to unlock. I bought on of those unfortunately. Probably to late for you but check it out with a neutral person.

    I had always adhered to the theory don't install glass whiten arms reach of the dead bolt otherwise a non scrupulous intruder could just break the glass in the door or the surround reach in and open the door, thoughts.

      I was a cop for 15 years in a terrible place in northern Illinois. A lock is only to keep the honest people “honest”. If someone wants in your house they are getting in.
