How much overhang do you need to be fully insulated with venting? My local lumber yard said I needed 2 foot over hang to insulate a building for ventilation but I’m not a big fan of big soffits

I repair bathtub floors that break due to lack of support. I charge between $1,300 to $2,800 depending on the amount of damage to be cut out and rebuilt. For less than $40 for proper support at the time of installation, as shown, that repair cost can be avoided in the future. I'm putting a link to this video on our website and social media - Well done. ~ (BTW - never try to repair a broken bathtub floor by drilling holes and injecting foam: that does not magically repair the broken fiberglass or rotted core. Use solid wood support, then a layer of fiberglass, core, top layer of fiberglass, and finally topcoat.) topcoat.

It was very affordable until it was made trendy by upper class.. but if you do your research you can still get it right and have lots of of room.

I never seen any home build step by step and show you the costs adding up as they progress.... very interesting and they're actually showing the materials being used. I would have to take into account other bottom line costs.... Insurance, annual property taxes, appliances, and so forth....I like this Barndo👍👋

Really love these barndominiums, but here’s my question. I thought they’d use metal framing? Is that not the case most of the time? One of the selling points for me is the ones that use metal framing which requires less maintenance and is more durable. Do you have any builds that use the metal framing instead of wood framing? Wife and I are looking at getting land and are torn between a manufactured home or a barndominium.

This is very nice but definitely overpriced. I know inflation plays a part but here in central North Carolina I bought 7 acres.......had a custom built traditional 3100 square foot 2 story house and a separate detached workshop in 2020 ....all in for $370k.

Something to think about regarding egress windows in the storm shelter. Our area got hit by a huge tornado in 2013 and one of the observations we noticed was any house with a walkout basement lost the flooring above, but none of the houses that were completely buried lost the 1st floor flooring. Very interesting thing we noticed. I completely get why an egress window could be helpful as for having another escape path should debris block the original entrance. Thanks for all of the information.

There was an opening in the inner most room that was filled in with concrete block. You could use a sledgehammer and a shovel to escape from the rooms if the only door was blocked; that door opened inward. There were ventilation pipes that would allow some fresh air, but hopefully not contaminated air. Getting trapped in your storm shelter would not be good.

When I was a Kid, my father had a Fallout Shelter built. It was in the early 60's, I suspect he got some assistance from the government. There were two chambers, 11 feet wide and 21 feet deep. The walls were 1 foot thick, and the top was 1 foot thick. He built a 2-car garage on top of it. We never needed it because there was never a nuclear war or a tornado. I had parties in it. There were several hurricanes, but we never needed to shelter in place.

I see a lot of people complaining about the cost and that it's out of their range and I have a feeling any type of home this size and quality would be out of their range. I do think this Barndo is slightly high for a post frame but, within the range for a home this size. We are building a 40x84x12 red iron weld up Barndo and had our shell built by our builder but, we are doing 95% of everything else inside ourselves. We just finished interior framing and spray foam and are sitting at about $165k. We hope to be able to finish with mid range finishes for another $80k- $100k again with us doing 95% of the work. Our all in cost will be around $275k +/- a couple of thousand. The lowest quote we got to have a builder finish the whole Barndo was $420k so, we are saving at least $150k on labor. There is no magic that makes building a Barndo cheaper than any other style of home, building supplies still have to be paid for and contractors still have to be paid.

Your labor rate is way to cheap. $18,000 for labor is way under priced. Labor should be 35 to 40% of material cost. You did a nice job but you should have charged more, especially if your claiming the income to the IRS.

You can also bend the bottom leg for ends then make you tab and cut excess off I use similar trim with steel buildings both methods work all perspective
