You did a fine job on your plumbing. I don't know what that guy's problem is.

Good insight. One point on trades though is that gravity should have priority over everything else, so let the plumber get drains sorted before ductwork. Best of course is to have everybody lay out their work (or at least their critical work) to identify conflicts.

I would love to see some of these inspectors and people who cry code get in the dirt and do it to their said code. I know a lot of them have been in the field but believe it or not some of them haven't. They get these government jobs through people they know or legacy hires and come in like they know everything. Sometimes they make stuff up and create their own rules and it stands until they get called to the carpet.

Some folks think the code in their area is the only right way to do something.

Doing your own work is worth it if you know how to do it. If I get paid $40/hr at work, I have $30-something after taxes, which would take almost 2 weeks to earn enough to pay a guy $2000 to do a job I can do in a couple days? No. Say the labor for that job is $1000. I can either work almost 2 weeks to pay the pro 2k, or I can be my own boss and take 2 days off work and save the $1000 at the expense of missing $600 of pay. (Rough numbers) I'll do it myself, even if it takes me longer than the pro.

Paul, I will gig you on your statement that plumbers use smaller pipe for cost and efficiency. Please do your homework before making a statement like that. There are very good reasons for sizing of drain pipes having nothing to do with cost or speed. If you are oversizing you drain pipe, you reduce the amount of velocity and scouring inside the pipe. By doing that, you increase the chance of plugging the drain pipe. Could you please address this so you don't misinform alot of DIYers. Thanks.

Good point and topic. We will also be building a Barndo on slab. With under slab PVC, are there any maintenance processes, ie chemicals, that would aid in ensuring the drains do not have significant waste build up? In our current house, several years ago, spaghetti noodles were dumped down the sink. Fortunately, the basement was not finished and we were able to easily clear the clogged pipe.

Personally, I find these retrospectives very informative. I'm someone planning on building a bardominium when I retire and move back to the mid-west in about 3 to 5 years. I'm learning so much from this style of video.
