- On this day in 2000, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother was honoured with a special 100th birthday pageant. Held on Horse Guards Parade 16 days before her birthday, the event was attended by members of the Royal Family, including the Queen Mother's grandchildren Prince Charles, Prince of Wales, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Princess Anne, Princess Royal. In a lively and at times bizarre display, military regiments paraded alongside an eclectic mix of civilian organisations in a large-scale giving of thanks to the Queen Mother - affectionately known as the Queen Mum - for her years of service.

A wonderful celebration for a wonderful woman. I love hearing her speak, she acknowledges everyone and her obvious enjoyment can be heard and seen. 'They' broke the mould we'll never see her like again.
