E bikes chew up components! Looks like a sweet ride. Definitely crazy how much progression you’ve had with all the extra descending on the ebike. 🤘
I had no idea how rough ebikes were on components haha
You ALMOST persuaded me to go over to the dark side with your exuberance about this E Bike....and then I came to my senses 😂
Hahaha I will convert you one of these days 😈
Excellent video Corbin. I was actually going to contact you to see if this bike is worth buying. Also, I’m with you about trp brakes; I had a number of issues with their brakes, not to mention the squeaky noise is not great…their customer service was awful to deal with and they lost me as a customer for good.
Hey! Yeah it's definitely worth buying but does has some frustrating pieces, nothing's perfect! Ari's customer support is also something that is a huge selling point for me on the brand. When issues come up, they are quick to find resolutions and work with you.
I didn't mention this about the TRPs but they are the only brake I have to do post production sound editing on to prevent a super high pitch squealing from leaking into the audio. You can hear it a little bit on the trail but the microphone picks it up soo much. Really quite annoying.
@@MTB_Corbin customer service is so important in this sport, glad to hear Ari is helpful. As far as the noise issue, I had to swap out my trp brakes due to my riding buddies complaining about the noise issue! I have had issues with shimano and sram, but they both backed their product, trp, not so much.
If you listen closely to MTB CZcamsrs vids, you can tell if someone is using trp’s or not.
100% about the CZcamsrs using TRPs… I’m super keen to try the Hayes dominion. Stoked to see what Dale thinks about them
Yep pretty surprising how fast you go through drivetrain components on the e-bikes. Just replaced my chain 30 mins ago after 1000km and I didn’t realize it was already way overdue. Also had to replace the rear wheel and hub already because of the budget hub that came with it. Replaced the derailleur hanger as well… If only I knew the cost getting into it lol. Starting to buy spare chains and cassettes when they go on sale so I have stuff in stock. Regularly cleaning the drivetrain helps a lot too.
hahaha yeah MTB costs are no joke, I'd still rather pay for bike parts/maintenance than lift passes for skiing though.
your first two points have been my biggest issue so far as well. The charge port cover alsways pops open and I'm waiting on my 3rd cover for the button/key hole (first one fell off and got lost on the very first ride.) Fezzari told me to use superglue, to hold the next one on, but that sounds like it's just going to make a mess of the paint around the button.
dang the third one...? that sucks. yeah idk about using glue, I feel like I'd get it on the wires and mess something up. I wish it was a clipped in door or something
@@MTB_Corbin glue won't mess up the wires, it's nonconductive so don't worry.
Manufacturer telling you to use super glue for their design flaw does not inspire confidence.
Hey there, great review! how long did it take to get the Zeb warrantied? I’m having the same issue unfortunately.
Thank you! That sucks you’re having the same issue with the Zeb. I believe it was 3 weeks from the time I contacted Ari until I had the fork back.
I'm on my 3rd chainstay with mine. They keep cracking near the BB on the non-drive side. Fezzari keeps sending me new ones, so I'll keep riding it till they stop.
I have the TP as well, but I am running it as a mullet and I find that it is super maneuverable on tight turns... much more than my full 29 Spectral. I am also running the GX transmission and I feel like it is a great option for eMTB b/c it can handle the torque. Expensive for you to make the full upgrade, so maybe not the best use of funds. Finally, I got the Fezzari dual-sided bottle cage and it works perfectly on my size large, so that could be a great option for you if you want to carry a bottle on the bike.
I'm heading out to North Slope this weekend... looks like the weather is going to be perfect. Have you been on any of the trails in the past week? Hoping this dry and warm weather is going to result in some hero dirt!
I'm thinking the next change I do to the bike is probably a mullet setup... it already has a really short chainstay but yeah I've heard from you and others that the mullet is the way lol. I didn't upgrade the drivetrain at all until the stock GX one gave out. I'm hoping your GX lasts longer than mine did!
I was up there the day I filmed this video and turned around because I saw snow low on the mountain just on the drive (where they started logging) and figure the trails would be covered since they're higher up... Maybe they've melted since then. Saturday is a work party out there at 9am that I'm going to!
@@MTB_Corbin And one other thing... I wear a Garmin Fenix 6 watch. Not sure what other models support this, but I am able to get the battery % on my watch. Not sure why Shimano doesn't put out an update. Anyway, if you have a Garmin watch you can likely get the exact % while riding.
How long do you think it will take you get used to start calling your bike Ari? 😅
another 7-10 business days max lol
Being 5’10 do you wish you have went with medium or are you happy with the large??
Hard to say for sure. I'd love to try the Medium and give you a better answer. The large works great for stability and the main places I ride at need a little more stability than maneuverability. But that being said a part of me wishes I would have gotten the Medium and made it a mullet.
i have the timp, i think a large and mullet would be great for you, but watching your riding i think you are doing very well on 29s so whatever fits your mood. I have the mullet and its very playful and fun, but I'm tempted to try the 29s and grab a new wheel so I can do both. Either way, great bike other than the cons you mentioned.
Man, really seems like you've had a lot of issues with that bike! The quality control of Ari doesn't seem up to par. I know it's not an ebike, but I've got about 500 miles on my Transition spire with a very similar build kit (sram drivetrain, rockshox suspension, TRP brakes) and I've had 0 issues with any parts! I also do ride it quite aggressively, including about 5 days of bike park riding last summer.
I also had a trek rail that I put probably almost 1000 miles on and didn't have nearly the issues you've had.
Yeah I have to be honest... I know ebikes run through drivetrain components but still this bike has been so fun when it's up and running. Only thing that kept me from riding was when the fork was going through the warranty.
I've heard the Trek Rails are pretty bullet proof! How do you like yours? How many miles?
@@MTB_Corbin probably put around 700 or so miles on it, strava has 500, but it's probably a bit more. It's a good bike, but it's still an ebike, which means it kinda sucks downhill compared to my spire. (not very manuverable in the tight tech sections) it's got a Bosch motor and battery and I've had 0 issues with the frame, power train, or drivetrain. I put a xo1 chain onto it which has lasted basically the whole 500+ miles, and I would highly recommend getting a high end chain for an ebike
I bet there’s little bikes out there that descend better than a spire haha my buddy has one and he loves it everywhere except the super tame trails.
I did put a higher end chain on and an old XO1 derailleur I had from a take off (switched to axs) that I hope can take the beating a little bit more 🤞🏽
@@MTB_Corbin hope that chain and derailleur keeps your drivetrain running smoothly for many miles to come :)
How tall are you.
5’10 👍🏼
"tetra link technology" lol, it's just a basic horst link. Same design as specialized, transition, rocky mountain, and many other brands. Easy to design, easy to manufacture, and it works fine.
oh haha I had no idea it was basically the same design
@@MTB_Corbin yeah, you gotta look at where the pivot points are on a bike, not the shock position
Ever ridden a DW linkage bike?
@@MTB_Corbin my previous bike was a banshee titan that used what banshee called "KS2" which is a dual link design very similar to both giant's maestro suspension and DW link. I've also ridden my buddies ibis ripmo. It's a good design, and I liked it. Honestly, it's really hard to find a bad suspension design now days, and geometry matters much more than the suspension design does.
Ah yeah I feel that on the geo. Have you seen what knolly has gone with for their updated chilcotin? It’s pretty interesting geo, I’m keen to try it
Astrobike
The first few issues are legitimate, but the rest are from a lack of regular maintenance. You really need to perform more regular maintenance on your bike
I made the same observation in the video :)
