    Perfect timing! Today my daughter and I will plant 4 apple trees (3 varieties), 2 pears, 2 peaches and 2 apricots trees. We also have a nice red maple and 6 blueberry bushes to plant. We are having to hand dig the clay soil, and boy, is that a workout! We know it will take several years until anything blooms, but we've got to plant today for tomorrow's harvest! Here in Michigan, the governor had shut down garden centers for awhile. At my local Walmart the trees they got in were stressed - I don't think the growers took care of them properly. But truly, their leaf tips are just a little browned. Anyway, they immediately marked them 50% off, and I was the first shopper there, when the discount was happening. God is so good!
    I have only about 2 acres, but we are inspired by many of the books and channels that teach how to build tiny homesteads.
    This year, fruit trees. Next year chicken tractor & chickens :) Have a Blessed day!

    Danny in 1958, when I was a 3 year old, my father was stationed in Cuba. We had a pomegranate tree in our back yard and I used to climb up in it. Very pleasant memory for me. In Jacksonville FL we had our own pecan tree in the front yard. I remember that we were "chored" with picking them up off the ground each year. Figs - my aunt's momma had a fig tree that we used to just pick and eat from in the summer. i have picked and packed blueberries from a commercial grower in NJ too. Uncle Carla had to keep a machete out in those fields, because there were some nasty NJ snakes hanging out, and giving birth while we were picking. My brother here in Jacksonville, grows a few grapefruit, a few orange, a few limes and a few lemon trees. I get blessed with the bounty of the harvest each year, and also get the privilege of helping to pick the ripe ones too. You have brought it all together, and a lovely fruit/nut forest there.

    I want y’all to know that this video set the tone for my day and it was a wonderful thing. Just watching Danny and the way he practically glows when talking about the production of the trees. It’s a wonderful feeling when you have nurtured a plant and it starts producing. Thanks for sharing it so well, I almost felt it myself and I am hundreds of miles away and have nothing to do with your beautiful trees lol! Well Done and thanks for a great start to the day!

    We are enjoying a good crop of pears, even more apples and pomegranates! Our satsuma is nicely loaded, as are the fig tree. No pecans or olives yet, but have researched and will add some nutrients to improve them. Some of the trees have gotten too shady for the scuppernong grove so we have to do some felling and trimming. Finally got me a lime tree👏🏼👏🏼! As well as hazelnut and nectarine and yellow plums! Our peach trees have mostly gotten over a pine tree falling on them☹️. So it seems we are getting ready for some blessings from our endeavors! Oh, and hubby finally got his three level wood shed done and can start splitting wood from the trees he removed! Life and God is good!

    Those are beautiful fruit trees. I didn't plant any fruit trees but I lost one. Someone backed over the Italian prune plum and it broke off. Well I just noticed I have a couple of volunteers peeking out from under the blue spruce tree. (it's huge) and one in the neighbor's woods by the property line. These might be Italian plum we'll see.

    What kind of pecan trees are those? I was always under the impression that pecan and walnut nut trees are huge like 75 feet to a hundred feet tall. Your trees look small for being 18 years old and it is a size that I would be able to fit into my yard. I never bought a pecan tree because I did not think I would have the room but I would be able to fit two of those into my yard. And also, what a nice Garden you have! it is very impressive.

  • @OkieRob
    @OkieRob Před 4 lety

    the plum cucurlio has already ruined most of my peaches for this year. Too expensive to try and fight them without killing all the pollinators that forage under the trees. My figs get pruned to the ground every winter, LoL. Some of the blueberries got hit with the late frost. Nurseries do sell huckle berries but they sell out fast. Our native huckle berries grow about a foot tall, so you have to fight the copperhead and rattle snakes if you want to try and pick any if you can find any. The place I used to go pick has been cleared and wind turbines installed for miles.

      I am only on 1acre and in a neighborhood with an HOA. However, they have no rules on gardening. So, since I have perfect Sun, I will be planting fruit trees in a skinny food forest around the whole yard outside the fence line. I will make it look really nice though.
      Then turning a large portion of the backyard into annual/garden space. The fruit trees will have berries and herbs and flowers and such in their understories.
