"I'm not a fan of broken flower pots or pvc" .......preach bother preach!!!!
Ravindran Arumugam so true
Nice
The Neon green sponges are fantastico. No doubt need high light and steady supply of microscopic foods not going to be found in aquarium waters.
Apisto's are delicate and a mistake to put them in large aquariums with fish that are faster- if very peaceful- then them. The food will never make it to them. A caveat with them.
I have a 3 meter diameter clump of Syngonium vine growing thickly from the surface of a 240 gallon and the roots are as jungly looking as can be...BUT!..those fine white root tips are never seen as the fish in the tank like Rainbows and Loaches will eat them...so its a thick tangle of larger main roots. I miss having the much finer white roots as I think they would have helped to really polish the water..but it sucks out plenty of pollutants as is.
Gorgeous fish and great footage! Are the hongsloi found in the trade line bred for bright yellow and red coloration?
yes, most are bred to bring out more of the red colour, most wild fish just have a single red line along the anal fin and through the caudal peduncle
How do you buy wild apistos?
Great video. I have moved to Colombia from USA and can readily get wild caught appistogramma. They have quickly became my favorite fish to keep. I agree with what you mentioned about not liking the flower pots but I am am not familiar with the pods that you use instead. Can you repeat the name of those please ?
CARINIANA POD, gumnut pod, there are several that work well, if you google blackwater botanicals for fish there are several companies in the US selling these.
@@belowwater Got it ! Thank you very much. You have a really interesting channel.
What’s the difference between Apistograma Ortmanni and Aptisograma hongsloi??
they are really not even close, A.ortmanni is in the eunotus-group, hongsloi in the macmasteri-group, if you look at the dorsal fin on the males you can see it best. Ortmanni males have a smooth dorsal fin, without the extensions on the first rays.
Would you mind writing the plant name down? The pods look interesting.
they are sold as "Savu Pods" in english speaking countries, the scientific name is Cariniana legalis
i see apistogramma borellii
No, A.borelli is only in the far south, Argentina and parts of Brazil and Paraguay.
You know what I always say about those ugly terra cotta pipes and pvc or even cinder blocks? Why do that for your big Central American cichlids when you can go to any import store and get Aztec/Mayan pots and the like? Authentic, interesting and some are colorful..depends on raw or glazed. Its what I did.
