In this video, we'll explore the wonder of the Rio Negro River, one of the largest blackwater rivers in the world. We'll see many familar aquarium fish, including angelfish, south american cichlids, cardinal tetras and rummynose tetras. We also get a few appearances from catfish like plecos, discus fish, and even a freshwater stingray.
This video should be mandatory to watch for all the novice and first time fiskeepers.
Why
@@gzuspeterson4748 because fish don't belong in a pink gravel bowl with a castle, you wonder why they die in a week? Thats why. This shows just a small example of how fish tanks should be kept.
@@maltahighjacker9842 pretty sure the people who do that are children who dont know any better
@@lemonyfish3303 well its the karen moms and dads that buy fish to make thier kids shut up mainly.
Well said 🙂.
Wild discus look so much more natural and real than all the flashy hybrids derived from them-wish someone would breed more of them.... maybe it’s just me but the colors are much more balanced and complementary. Looking forward to the biotope tank!
Sort of agree, but I bet, like all of us, that you didn't know that wild discus are completely different from 'shop' discus when you started keeping fish.
I guess we all look back over our years in the hobby and wish we knew then what we know now.
But that would be like immediately downloading kung fu to your brain. You'd have the technical knowledge but not the soul.
I still love the look of brightly coloured discus in a heavily planted tank.👍
I also prefer the wild varieties. The beautiful browns etc make the colours pop. I always prefer wild types.
Hi, does Symphysodon aequifasciatus live in the Rio Negro? I don't think so. When I was there we found S. discus only. You may watch my new video being newly out tonight. Thanks, greetings from Germany and take care, Bernd 👋🙂
It's pretty hard to improve on nature (I like "natural" striped angelfish, too) but I still appreciate the creativity of breeders. Guppies, platys, long finned black tetras and bettas are some of my favorites.
Discus hybrids? I’ve never seen one of those.
Daaaaaaaaammmmn that first 150 gallon tank looks soooo gorgeous, its perfect it looks like animated at this point. Plants are perfect and fish are so calm and swimming around like they don't fear anything. It is marvelous.
neon or cardinal tetras are basically blue lasers underwater!
That was beautiful. I’m so glad you were able to have that experience. Thank you for sharing with us so we can enjoy it from afar.
Please add leaf litter to the bottom of your tank. It really helps with the biodiversity of things.
What kind of leafs?
The quality of your content in unparallel! Just amazing ❤️
One thing that stuck out to me is the placement of the Cardinal Tetras in their natural habitat. I knew they and many other tetras came from blackwater systems rather than the crystal clear ones we set up in our homes. But I had never seen them in the wild like this before. I realized how quickly they seem to 'disappear' into their surroundings, as fish with red markings often do in dark water environments. It reminds me of the deep ocean, and how many animals down there are colored red in order to become 'invisible' to their predators. I have to wonder if they are trying to deploy that same tactic here. Even with that bright blue neon streak, it makes it a lot harder to pick out the shape of the fish in such tea-stained water, while perhaps allowing groups to still see each other enough to school.
I never followed the parameter stuff and yet my fish survived for a long time. This videos proves it.
I would love more videos like this! I love seeing fish in their natural habitats, and South American fish species are my favorites. This video left me with some inspiration and tank ideas to help me with my upcoming projects.
Yes!! Been looking forward to this for so long!!
Omg I LOVE this! You make such an effort to create beautiful, inspirational and informativ videos for us. Thank you!
Very well done, your video quality is top tier. That transition at the end was great. Id love to hear more about the trip to the Rio Negro.
I hope YOU have a lovely day man! Great video, I've been fishing keeping for just over a year and that thing you said about not chasing the PH is very reassuring and something every fishkeeper should hear!
The beauty of that river system... No words....
This is a brilliant video Alex, love it. I wish it went on and on mate. 🌿

That was beyond amazing!
Simply amazing. Thank you.
Beautiful, simply beautiful. I love black water and am thinking of setting up a 33 long black water tank. I might even try doing a biotope. I hope you have more footage to share of this beautiful river system.
Your work is awesome buddy do continue this work

Great video! thanks for sharing!
Big Fan!
What a display & documentary ...... awesome
Love this great educational video I wish people would do more of these
I really enjoyed this video. Just amazing.
I like how you talk about the fry hiding in the leaf litter. This brings up a good point. When you change your water don’t toss the muck bucket right away. Toss a heater in it and let it sit for a day or two. You might be surprised at what you may find. Happy tanking keep up the Vids.
Why change your water?
I've been to the Rio Negro in 2008 it was amazing... saw so much life... Spent one day there fishing for so many species of piranha.
I love this type of videos 😍.
Your tank looks amazing!!

The video was awesomest!!!!
Great job! Thanks!
Loved the video!
Gorgeous!
Loving it ❤️🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
I love tetras. Many of this can be found wild in places like canals and sewers in states like Florida.
Great video. Thank you.
The cinematic of this video is like a teaser of a movie!
Very informative and great video. 🙋🏻♀️👍🏼
Great video!
excellent
thank you :)
What a beautiful nature
Nice video and good info
Good video
One thing that bugs me about typical biotope style aquariums is the (often) total lack of any live plants. Look at the real deal, there are so many HUGE trees and stuff growing right out of the water. That represents a tremendous amount of nutrient uptake that doesn't get replicated in your average biotope style tank.
using pothos growing out of the tank would be ideal if yo ustill wanna keepo the biotope asthethic when it comes to underwater
You could make an "algae reactor/scrubber" like Joey from king of DIY.
To be fair you usually need a lid when you have an aquarium so that makes it hard
Good day and good mood.
I watched your video and really liked your non-standard, but absolutely correct, understanding of the topic of aquariums.
Thank you and good luck. I'm waiting for new videos.
Excellent vídeo friend!
That is wonderful
Well I did amazing. Almost all of my tanks, including Betta look just like these. I even use leaf litter from local streams.
Absolutely brilliant,,😉🏴🇬🇧
What a great video.
Nice video
Amazing!
What a captivating video. Thank you. Forever Subscriber.
Great video all my tanks are done like that
Excelente vídeo felicitaciones y saludos desde Tierras Altas Tortuguitas Buenos Aires Argentina 🖐🏻🖐🏻🖐🏻🖐🏻👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🇦🇷💫💫💫💫💫
Excellent
I mean it's great to know the history and how the fish lived in the wild. How ever, unless you're catching wild fish and bringing them to an aquarium. They have most likely been bred in captivity for generations and never seen their predecessors parameters and would probably be more harmful than good for the ones already adapted for many lifetimes of fish.
This is also my opinion and I could be wrong.
Very informative and a great video!
Japanese called biotope with dry area, swamp area and submerse area and without tannin... (similar like Paludarium)...
real biotope - Tannin, driftwood and acidic water...
and did you know acidic water is not sour but bitter taste...
tetras with best fishkeeping will grow untill 7cm size... include cardinal, neon tetras, silver tip tetras, and other 'small sizes tetras'..
amazing voice❤
Very good video
We’re those angels ampapa red backs? Great stuff as always, it’s been a year since I started watching your channel, this week I will finally convert to black water for a few tanks I have, cheers mate
This is a must watch for anyone owning these types of fish. Too many Fishkeeper go for the aesthetic look instead of what's better and will benifit the fish :)
Pemandangan yang indah
Finally!!!
