  • Learning how to discipline a toddler forces us to take a different approach. The strategies Jason discusses in this video are not typically what we as fathers do nor how we were dealt with as children.
Most fathers really mean punishment when they are talking about disciplining a toddler. What do I need to do in order to get my toddler to listen and follow what I ask? and if they don't, what do I need to do in order to correct their behavior. What works?
In this video, Jason goes over how to discipline a toddler in a way that actually works.
Be sure to comment below on whether you agree with Jason, or feel some kind of punishment needs to be part of discipline.

I am a mother of a young toddler doesn't even talk but the tips you give really works slowly my son is listening to me and coming to me after a tantrum. He likes to mess with kitchen appliances and oven 😅😅 and I am very strict about that. So I think these videos really help. Thank you 😭😭😭

This helped me look at this whole thing differently . I have an almost 2 year old and an 8 month old . I definitely see that the things I encourage and praise her for doing she repetitively does , and the things she does I don’t like and react to she still does over and over to get my reaction . I’ll be thinking about this video from now on . Thanks for the great advice

I have a Newborn baby girl... I hope you have this program alive in the next few years, because I sure will love to learn about it.
About the video... I've read about the Kholberg's Theory of Moral Development on a person. It says that depending on the age of the kid/toddler its how you create the behavior that you like the kid to have. So according to the Theory, it sounds to me that the method that you explain in the video, its for kids around the age of 7 or 8 years and more.
    Am I right?

No, toddlers are age 2-4. If you have an older child and haven't been doing this, it's time to start.

Very true! I got punished a lot as a child, but still broke all the rules, just in a sneakier, more deceptive way...

What age is a kid considered a toddler? My son turned 2 last month, he's starting to throw more tantrums but I'm not sure he'd understand what I'm saying when I try correcting his behavior. It turns into redirection, rather than disciplining. What age group of the child is Dad University most effective?

Toddler is age 1-3. The time to learn is now. Dad University (The Parenting Program) is designed for right about the age you are at and up. You want to be ready for when your child does understand. you will feel more knowledgeable with what is going on and more confident on how to handle it.

I'm right where you were. There is no explaining anything to a kid who doesn't understand English. I could talk to him for a week and he would just spin in circles and giggle because he has 0 idea what I have said.

What exactly is any of this advice based on? What are you're or this organization's qualifications to be able to give advice? Is this based on Child Psychology or just your opinion and experinece, and if it's based on science then what science exactly?

Great questions, thank you. Much of Dad University's teachings are based in individual psychology and the works of Alfred Adler and Rudolf Drekurs. Similar teachings are found in Positive Discipline, Redirecting Children's Behavior, Joy of Parenting, etc. In addition, it was the way I was raised and how I raise my own children.

Honestly I think youve got this all wrong what I'm looking for is how should a father react? If it's cold and my kid is having a temper tantrum and doesn't want to put a shirt on I will put a shirt on him whether he likes it or not it is a reaction it's not a punishment and I'm calm while doing it so that's what we should be talking about it's not about me getting my buttons pushed I'm not bothered by it but my kid will comply!
