In Part 6 you will finally get to see the JXP600 plowing for the first time in over 2 years and see some of the design flaws and issues we run into which was to be expected when you are working with a experimental project. Let's Go, Let's Plow!
Plowing was my favorite job on the farm. Dad taught me to plow with the brillion 12 inch one bottom behind our raider 12 wheel horse Garden tractor. As by 1972 our farm has been sold and he wasn’t farming anymore, but we still had a garden, a quarter acre garden. In 1977. I started farming on shares with a neighbor who is leasing our farm. He had a case plow, 6/16”in furrow. After he retired and everything was sold, I went to work for a friend of mine with a 6/18” on land International and we pulled it with a 1468. I have another friend who happened to have a Farmall 2+2 and a JD 6/18” in furrow. I took my then girlfriend, now wife on a date plowing for Danny with his 2+2 and JD 6/18”. We have been married now for 36 years.
Just recently ran across your channel. It tickled me when he was talking about all the places he has plowed and said he especially liked the dirt around Van Wert Ohio. That's where I'm at. It's a shame that nobody plows much anymore.

The wheel need bo bee in a line with the top mounting.

We got pure gumbo soil in places on south dakota. Have to drop a bottom to pull plow through it. And soil inplaces sane field so sticky wont even scour right molboards jist plug up. Thats hard pulling.
We ran into some of the same soil type in Indiana a few years ago. Really rich topsoil but it was dense and it was giving everyone a hard time getting through it .

Great job guys that’s awesome I would have figured that tractor would needed duels to pull that but you did it and it did a really nice job for the first time out I’ve seen people mess with a plow half the day and it looks worse than that lol love the old tractor to that’s a rare good looking machine there was one or two here in southern Indiana back in the early 90s I always wanted to drive it but never had a chance thanks for sharing
Just flip the cast over on the rear wheel. If he extends that shaft in the hub, it's not going to follow right. Have to move the pivot point over
Your going to get just needs a little fine tune here and there buy actually doing a dang good job for first time in field. Glad i got to see it i watched you pull it out rhe first time of the shop. 2nd time worked perfect. Everything else will fall in next time or two.

Always enjoyed plowing, started with a 3 point hitch 2 bottom on a fordson dexta, then a jd pull type 3-16 behind a oliver super 88 or minneapolis moline UB diesel, and progressed to a ih semi-mounted 5-18 behind a ih 1066 black stripe which lasted till retired

How many inches/bottom? I sold IH equipment from Spring 1978 until Fall 1981. Went to Phoenix for the 2+2 intro. Sold 1 3588 with an IH 720 7-18 plow (I think). Took a morning demo & an afternoon of home-made wine tasting to make the sale😎! I believe the plow was the model 730 adjustable width. Think we had calcium solution in all 4 tires & ran the right wheels in the furrow. With the plow set for 20” would have been 140” width vs. Bill plowing 168” width. We are in West central Ohio with clay loam soil. The guy’s farm was on the SE edge of the former “Great Black Swamp”! I’m 84 & that was about 44 or 45 years ago so my memory is slipping a bit.
This plow has 12 14" bottoms on it

Mike Whalen should know, having built the hitch for the two IH plows you see being used at the Half Century Of Progress, by the big 4WDs like the Rite 750 Earthquake and the Big Bud 747.
He's currently reworking the hitch on it now. He just wasn't happy the way it was sitting in the field. Should be interesting to see here in a few days at the redesign.

Pretty big anchor for that tractor. He must have some pretty light soil! Sod at that! Of course I’m from central Illinois where he’d pull about half that plow.
It pulls it just fine in most ever soil condition he plowed in around the country including Illinois. I guarantee it could do 10 bottoms with ease. You just have to know your tractor and how to plow.
I don’t think he can pull that in the ground at Rantoul. Half century of progress ground is just too hard!! Lots a guys “bring twice the tractor and half the plow” to Rantoul.
@@dougstohlmann7726 I didn't know that land was that bad up there. He pulled his 10 bottom up there 2 shows ago and didn't have any trouble. I don't guess 2 more bottoms or 28 more inches could slow it down that bad.

It worked good for the first time out. After he makes the improvements, it will pull easier. What size of tires does he have? I think 23.1 34, and if that's the case, you can dual them up with 18.4-38s for more traction. The 3588 did good with it. When you think about it, it's about the equivalent of 2 806s. In most soil conditions, an 806 can pull a 6 bottom plow, so it's no surprise he can pull 12 with the 3588. My grandpa pulled a 3 bottom plow with a W-4 for years. I pulled 11 shanks of chisel plow with my 560. Many CZcamsrs don't think that can be done either.

How someone could come up with the idea much less build it amazes me. What it must have been like working in the engineering department working and doing the exact same thing we were doing today. A dream job for sure.

Back wheel turn the mounting rod to other side of wheel and fix it dosent have to act like caster wheel. Try it

Merry Christmas! I'm very impressed that the tractor is pulling it. Is that tractor turned up any at all? Pretty cool to see this in the ground finally. It's doing a great job other than the few adjustments required and the tail wheel wanting to walk up out of the furrow. Since everything is affected by geometry and the plow leans to the right, it seems like getting the plow to run parallel to the ground would help a lot in getting the tail wheel to track down in the furrow a lot better too. I'm glad he went ahead and did the video with ya. I like to learn right along with him and everyone else. The back story stuff is far more interesting to me than the final product that is running nicely.
That tractor is pushing 235hp ish and it weighted perfectly to pull a heavy load. Yeah to be expected the changes are being worked on now and hopefully will be ready to do another video on soon

I've done plenty of moldboard plowing, that is a really good looking job. But how the hell can that tractor pull 12 bottoms?
He's got it set like he wants it and it pull it in 3rd low with ease. The 750 lbs of weight on each tire with water in the back helps too lol
Matt there’s a 7 acre field with long rows right behind the plow day field that would make an excellent special exhibition field.
I definitely let him know. I believe the first plowday he's going to try and take it to is in March . It has to be moved in 2 parts.

The fronts not as deep as the rear. Could see it when you showed the side view. The back is slightly to deep front isn’t bad. Any sort of trash on top like corn stalks you’d be plugging the back a lot it looks like
Yes the two were not the same in the beginning but later were adjusted correctly.
Use a hay rake offset rim
Tires look 24inches wide very Very nice setup

4366s have the same 466 engine. He may have it turned up to 4366 specs.

@@deweypowell2684 he was happy with it but 2 or 3 things he wanted to make changes to. The biggest was to the hitch to get the plow to sit more level. That was up in the air anyway so it's being reworked now.
