  • Eric buys a chisel plow from a local auction. He gets the guy set-up to run the ripper and chisel plow on the Alabama farms.

    Gidday Eric.
    That red soil reminds me of a lot of many places in Australia. Interesting video. Good job with your CZcams videos. They are really interesting.
    Thankyou.

      Your very welcome my friend. I would love to come play in your sandbox with some cotton. That’s some of the finest cotton ground there is!!

    I watched a video of yours a while back about trusting no one for your soil sampling. Makes sense now. I had one of those pro shops run my samples and found they are using mehlich 3 for everything in order to save time and labor on their side. Problem here is our soil is > 30 CEC so m3 falls apart especially for phosphorous. Reran the tests, m3 at least on our soil is about 2x higher than bray1. A fella would have a false sense of security. Later found out our great ag school here is Texas is also using mehlich 3. This year, staying with bray 1 for phosphorus and using a crop removal (including stalks) as a target. This is putting the farm at 40ppm and running some trials at 60ppm. Both tissue and yield. Good luck and thanks for stirring things up for us. We can use it to stay out of the rut.

    Eric look up Richmond Brothers from Michigan. There ripper points last way longer then deere, are much cheaper and have a core.

    You could almost plant behind the ripper as good of job as that rolling basket does

    • @TheCropCritic
      @TheCropCritic  Před 6 měsíci +1

      That’s one of the reasons we switched to it other than inline rippers. We are busting all the compaction and allowing the soil to warm up in the spring while leaving the ground level.

    With the twist plows, are you trying to churn the dirt to bury more trash? I know fertility gets on top and needs to be turned under so roots can get to it. Thought maybe that’s why you went with the twist plows. Excellent videos

    • @TheCropCritic
      @TheCropCritic  Před 6 měsíci +3

      Not necessarily, just trying to bust up the ground as much as possible. Compaction is the #1 evil!
