    I actually like that the power isn't linear. I know they were thinking of making power scaling linear and I'm glad they didn't.

    it's also a good idea to build more biomass burners than you need in the early game so you don't have to refuel as often

    Started new playthrough with update 7. I find biomass generators very useful. If you use biofuel recipe, this kind of power is my defense against power outage. Like you mentioned they use fuel proportionally to power consumption. Great stuff.

  • @nicewhenearnedrudemostlyel489

    When i first started messing with coal generators i band-aided some pipe flow misconceptions by using 1 out of the 8 i planned out to only run the water pumps and miners, the other 7 were the "output" to the rest of the world. i haven't changed this thinking at all. it's a huge safety against me nonchalantly adding too heavy a load later.

    It should be noted that power storages can only charge at up to 100 MW so it will always take at least 1 hour to fully fill a power storage. However, power storages can discharge an unlimited amount of power. So in theory your entire 50000 MW consuming mega factory can run - for a few minutes - on a single full power storage. I still advise having a generous power storage capacity as it will buy you time to fix any power related problems and avoid the feared cold starts that can be pretty difficult to manage.
    Geothermal power and renewable sources like from the Refined Power Mod also require power storage.
    Seperate your grid with switches... that way you can turn off parts of the non essential factory in case of lack of power. This can avoid power trips and can buy your more time. Make sure that the production lines that produce stuff for your power generators have their own seperatable grid. This makes restoring power much easier when you only need to jump start a relative small production compared to a huge factory.

    My battery factory can last up to 2 hours before it fails so there is backup if you make it.

    • @Big_Red_Wade
      @Big_Red_Wade Před rokem

      my battery factory has one job, that is to power my water pumps for the 20 nuclear power plants if i ever have to do a cold start. this is why i always keep a full large container after each production stage as conveyors run for free so ill have a reserve of Uranium fuel rods, coal, (only things i need to resupply power). but i have never tripped my system out and are to vigilant to do so anyway lol.

    There are other energy units in the game: Anything that can be used as fuel has a kJ (kilo Joules) value, and you can use it to find out the burn rate for that fuel in a generator.

    Does water depth determine how well the pumps work? Me and my friend just started getting into this game, and we are struggling to understand why our coal generators won’t work and it seems like they aren’t getting enough water

    • @SatisfactoryNews
      @SatisfactoryNews  Před 3 měsíci

      No, water depth does not matter. If you can place a water extractor, it's getting water. The issue you're probably having is with pipes. Keep in mind how much water the pipes can move per minute compared to what the coal plants need. The most popular and reliable way to do coal power when you have Mk1 Pipes (which can move 300 water per minute) is 8 coal generators with 3 water extractors attached to them. But instead of funneling ALL of that water into one pipe, you will want to spread them out. For example, if you have 8 coal generators in a line, you would have a water extractor filling up water at each end of the setup, and then the third would add water in the middle. There are some great diagrams here: satisfactory.wiki.gg/wiki/Coal_Generator#/media/File:Coal_Generator_Schematic.png

    Wait. Plutonium fuel rods can be used as fuel for vehicles?
    Also, I wil actually aways recommend to use power storages. And a lot of them. When going from update 6 to 7, the ratio of used water was changed for the nuclear powerplants. In my save I use 6 plants, fully overclocked. So in u7 my plant created more power than before, but also more waste than in update 6. And because my plutonium fuel factory couldn't keep up the system jammed and the amount of power generated reached levels below consumption. Without power storages I would have experienced a tripped system, but with my 27000MWH I could literally play for another 23 hours before they would be running out of power. Even an update could break your power production, so better safe than sorry and get yourself some power storages. :)

    • @SatisfactoryNews
      @SatisfactoryNews  Před rokem

      They sure can! I didn't know this until reading the wiki to confirm some other information. You can put pretty much any fuel into vehicles, coal being a popular choice.

    0:30 "Cant store or buffer power?" What happend to the capacitors???
    7:00 "Overclocking easier" What was difficult?

    • @SatisfactoryNews
      @SatisfactoryNews  Před rokem +3

      1) They still exist. I talk about them at length in the video at 8:55. And my full quote was "you can't store or buffer power IN THE SAME WAY as other resources". I would consider Power Storage to be distinctly different than items on a belt or items in a storage container, as power is not a physical item.
      2) It was difficult because the math was messy. Now when you overclock a power generator to 200% (for example) you will actually get 200% of the base power. Prior to this update, the formula was not linear, so it was less intuitive to figure out how much power you were actually getting - and it didn't follow the same rules of other production buildings, where if you overclock to 200%, you'll get 200% of the end product. This power update puts power generator overclocking in line with other overclocking in the game.
      Hope that answers your questions!

  • @voidseaker
    @voidseaker Před rokem

    super dumb question but what do the colors on the buildings mean? I know Red is off and Green is on but why do I have sudden Yellows?

    • @SatisfactoryNews
      @SatisfactoryNews  Před rokem +2

      It's not a, dumb question at all! Yellow means Standby. So the machine is either waiting on materials or it's full of the finished product and can't make more, or it's been manually set to standby mode. You'll also see white/blue, which means that the building has a power shard in it.
