8 Satisfactory TIPS you NEED to know before you start
Personally the biggest usage of blueprints i utilize are simple racio belt splitters. I have entire page of: 1/3 equal, 1/9 equal, 1/4 equal etc. seems like a small thing but saves so much time. But that might just be a side effect of my "no foundations megabase" challenge im doing atm. Im not going to lie jetpack +blade runner movement is really fun in a spaghetti mountain
I have a train loop in one direction that has goes around the entire map. Every resource has a one car train station. Complex products have their own vertical factories near the track somewhere. One station at the space elevator. Not the most efficient but fun.
Ah, load balancing, some of my favorite servers . . . oh wait, we're talking about the game. Good stuff.
I have a few tips for modular factories (as a modular factory enthusiast): 0. Get very comfortable with rails. Always lay two rails so that you can have trains moving opposite directions. Also, have mental templates (unfortunately, blueprints are too small) for junctions and stations with multiple platforms. Each outpost is probably going to have at least 6 separate train platforms, for all of the different trains which visit it. 1. Build your rails high in the air, so you don't have to deal with terrain. 2. Use trains like private limos, not public transit. Each player on the server should have a private train, which they can hop into and set to autopilot to wherever they want to go. There should be at least one dedicated platform at each facility for player access trains. The cargo wagons on these private trains can be used as an extended inventory of sorts. Don't rely on riding the cargo trains around. 3. Trains can be extended in any direction. If you've finished making something and aren't sure where it's going yet, send it to a train and send it somewhere later. If you need a resource and haven't set up production for it yet, build a platform that takes it in, and fill it later.
This video is misleading as no one with a shred of sanity every does one or the other. Especially considering since the maps are designer, you'll often find materials needed together for some advance items pretty close together. I would never make steel in a mega base, considering their are nodes close together that can fuel steel production elsewhere, and this would prevent over drawing the busses. At the same time though, trying to ship iron plates to multiple locations will cause traffic issues as your transportation network would bog down. So the real answer, neither/both. Use both as needed to mitigate the negatives of both.
One additional way to remove the manifold warm up is to just manually put a full stack in each machine. Load balancers are for perverts imho.
That's an... interesting description.
Note that the loopback method can cause issues if you're not careful of belt speed. For example, you want to feed 5 machines 12 things/min, for a total of 60. 60 in gets split into 6, 10 goes into each machine, and the 6th line loops back to eventually send the remaining 2 into each machine. But, and here is where things can go wrong for you, now you have 60+10 on the belt between the merger and the first splitter. If you did the whole system with Mk1 belts, because your total input was only 60, right, now you've got a bottleneck that's going to clog up, and the machines are only going to get 10 each.
Yep, I made a whole follow up video about this oversight! (Looks like you found it though)
Just stumbled across this, great video! I've been watching some others that are incredible but start with "improving the look on this build only took me 3 hours..." I'm way more interested in making things efficient, these simple ideas are exactly what I need!
I propose Galvanized Square Steel and Eco Friendly Wood Veneer screwed with screws borrowed from your aunt for expansion projects.
I hate manifolds. I hate it. I made a small, but elaborate design that equally splits the ores for my smelteries, until I found out, I could just slap the belts in the manifold style. It just doesn't look that goooooooooood compared to clean load balancing! But it's more efficient!!! AAAAAAHHHHH!!!
I use load balancing and underclocking for inputs to all machines, it makes me feel wasteful to let all machines load up And use manifold only when produce has to be only stored and not sent to another machine
The only tip i can think of off the top of my hat is to not transport raw materials if it can be avoided. Usually, the number of items gets lower as you progress up the tech tree, so i tend to at least build smelters near iron or copper nodes and only transport ingots over longer belts. Fewer belts needed = less work that way.
I am mostly for processing raw materials on-site and bringing things together at a central location. It reduces the amount of things you have in once place, you can play with logistics whilst having the most important parts close.
tip: when in doubt, handcraft.
Or just do it the Let's Game it Out way 😂
Modular! Because if you make a planning mistake with a megafactory.. you are fuuuuuuugged.. no way you'll rebuild that thing.
Keys which are truly hot :3
Lazy and uncreative gamer reporting for duty, SIr! Thank you for this awesome guide!
nice tips! 1650hrs in and I had no idea about the Marker Beacon of Light thing :))
one thing id love to see in satisfactory is to force drones to take custom paths so u could have high ways of drones in the sky
I don’t have the game yet, but when I do buy it I plan on setting up a mega factory/sorting machine at my main base, with several modular factories and mini power plants for each at several locations all connected with train tracks.
Fuck Epic games Glad I have it on Steam though, but I don't think Epic games endless money pit is really the cause of their succes Freedom to the people, not to the companies!
I don't think it's the sole cause of their success by any means. But having millions of dollars to spend on development, that you didn't have before, makes for a more complete game if you use your resources well. I don't doubt that that money accelerated development by a lot at the very beginning.
@@SatisfactoryNews True sorry, I reacted too soon before watching the whole video I'm fed up with companies like Epic just throwing money at something to win their position, and this is so not how the devs work themselves
Maybe using a splitter next on the MK3 without a belt, can solve this problem? Idk
June 21! is the Release date! in Sweden we have Midsummer 21-22 June and after that 80% off people out off the vacation +4-5 weeks, that what we call " industry vacation.
Nah, unlikely. Release require fully functioning team just in case something bad happens.
See i challenged myself to use vehicles as much as possible, so i use several assorted factories, i ship stuff around via train, trucks to collect all sorts of random raw materials. I do have a massive sorting facility thats nothing but train stations, storage and programmable splitters so that way I can send truck loads of crap to random collector trains and they just dump it at the sorting station and magically it ends up in the appropriate bin. I debated on doing this with packagers for liquids but ultimately didnt feel like doing a dedicated train/drone network for empty packages, as i already did a drone network for supplying batteries to every resource collection truck/train hub. It is nice seeing trucks all over the map rather than tons of random conveyors just sprawling the landscape. I did do a mix of trains and pipelines for fluids, it mainly depended on the amount of pumps required to make the pipeline work.
A stupid easy way to fix your transit issue is a personal train, just build tiny docking areas for your locomotive to sit
i havent played since update 7 THERE IS AN OVERFLOW FEATURE NOW?????? holy COW lol
According to the wiki, overflow was added to smart splitters in Update 3 😅
@@SatisfactoryNews WHAAAAT lol I'm dumb hahaha
That's Mr. Beluga, wanted for many intergalactic crimes. DO NOT APPROACH. Call the capitalist overlords immediately.
title is a bit misleading as most of these things arent important for people who just started the game
I only found out about zoop after I played the game for like 20 hours. I'm not a very patient person and filling out floors and walls was driving me insane, then I just randomly press this button and it changed my life My excuse is that I first started playing a bit when it was around update 3, and I never really got super far into the game for a while because I get overwhelmed quick. Now I'm working on unlocking T5 which is I suppose not that far into the game for hardcore people but for me is already a big achievement **nitpicking alert** the blueprints are 32mx32mx32m which 32768m^3, not 32m^3; Obviously I know that's what you meant I'm just commenting because I like nitpicking
I play co-op and its more fun to see friends building factories in their own style, gives a lot of diversion in the world I usually make the planning and share it with them, for example a frame factory which outputs all iron items, a computer factory which outputs all computer parts and so on and so fort
I appreciate the detailed information on load balancer theory. I'm not a Math Person myself, so when a video is like "here's an example of a load balancer" and shows off some pre-made assemblage of splitters and conveyors with little explanation of why it is built the way that it is, it doesn't help me understand how to actually implement one. This video helped tremendously. Thank you!
That is exactly why I made these videos about balancers. I never understood it from other explanations, so I really dove into how they worked and tried to explain it in a way that would have made sense to me. I'm glad that is resonating with other people!
Like someone mentioned before. Don't feel guilty about hitting the beans. Also, another thing about them is that if they spawn on the top floor of your factories, you can remove the platform out from under them and they'll drop.
Am i literaly the only one here having a mega factory where i do literaly everything except for mining of some far away materials?
Modular until endgame, and you have a place to gather all craftable materials in a decent amount, and then one humongous mega factory! :-)
Can’t do a build without it
Nice
The one thing every new player needs to know. Hold down E when harvesting leaves or wood, then tap Q. Close Q if needed but you will be auto harvesting until you hit E again. No more spam tapping E at the start.
I think a usefull thing to notice is that you can align foundations to the grid of the map by holding ctrl while placing them
I used to use load balancing when I can, but when I need 11.456 heat sinks to go into 7 assemblers manifolds just make it so much easier
Other basic tip for starters is not use fiscit foundation in the begining of the game, unlock the concrete foundation and you are good to go.
I have 60 hours, and I learnt about stamps creating a pillar of light, the debuild box trick and the broken geometry of beams. I will contribute: - Always Be Automating - Plan factories around logistics before outputs i.e. "I have access to iron, copper, water and caterium in this area, what can I automate out of that?" rather than "I need to automate computers, where should I build that?"
You can plan factories for specific items too of course, I've just found it much more effective for logistics to build around resources first.
i only have 2 factories, a megafactory and a nuclear only factory
- Mapfixes (holes in the map, nodes not aligned with world grid) - Modsupport (right now, modding is 100% dependent on a small number of people who control the only viable tool for modding, and they are very elitist and don't care for fans of the game who can't mod themselves, monopols are never a good thing, not even with modding)) - Support for more maps/mapeditor (a map editor could basically be a game in it self)
Great tips.
For tip 1 alone you deserve a medal! Thanks, no more boxes in hard to reach places.
It's such a simple thing but so easy to miss!!
