    Can you explain about placement of column and orientation of columns with respect to major and minor axis of the beam .

    • @michaelacheampong2869
      @michaelacheampong2869 Před 3 lety

      Let's say you have a rectangular building, the major axis of the column will run parallel to the transverse or short side of the building.
      This way the major axis of the column faces the direction of lateral loads like winds or seismic.
      After this major arrangement, architectural considerations will make you change a few of them that's all.

    I have planned to construct two separate rooms like 20*10 ( ground floor with 10*14 room size at first floor) & 22.5*10 (only ground floor) . My engineer suggested RCC is as follows. Pls tell it correct or not. Basement level of 22.5*10 is 2 feet less than 20*10 room
    1. For 20*10 - 6 columns of 12*4 with 8mm stirr up of 7 inch c/c - four at each corner and remaining two at spacing of 8 feet at one end and 11 ft at other end. Plinth beam with 1.5 feet height and 9*9 (l*b). Ceiling height is 10 feet. Planned tie beam at below windows (2.5 feet) and lintel (7 feet) of 6 inch rcc
    2. For 22.5*10 - 6 columns of 12*4 with 8mm stirr up of 7 inch c/c - four at each corner and remaining two at spacing of 10 feet at one end and 10 ft at other end. Plinth beam with 1 feet height and 9*9 (l*b). Ceiling height is 12 feet. Planned tie beam at below windows (4 feet) and lintel ( 8 feet) with 6 inch rcc
    And join the both room in ceiling and both room in 90 degree position to each other

    As I had worked as site engineer in a project of 21 floor but there I had not seen column width 700 x 700 instead the column length was big
    And they had reduced the size of column as floor increased like from GL to 10th and from the 10 the 15 the floor different small size so on

    Kindly give any calculation of thumb rule to arrive preliminary size of rcc column for any storey building. Load= plinth area of slab area x no. of storey x thumb rule for load/m^2. After that using formula given in IS456-2000
    Pu=0.40fck Ac+ 0.67 fy Asc. By assuming percentage of steel from 1 to 2% and assuming grade of concrete and steel grade , Ag gross area of column area will be arrived. By assuming square or rectangular column dimension of column wi be arrived. As a thumb re we may assume 10 to 20 kn/m^2 may be consider as thumb rule Normall we adopt 15 Kn/m^2 is consider for design. Like that kindly give some guidance to arrive size of rcc column from your field experience.
