- Rob and I took our 2 Tamiya DT03 Racing Fighters to the park. We wanted to test how fast my unbranded 13.5T sensored brushless motor would go. Rob's sensorless 13T brushless Racing Fighter hit 23mph last time - can I beat that? Find out here, and I hope you enjoy the bashing session that we had after the speed run! Cheers Phil! Thanks for the comment - yeah, basic kit can be got for just over £80 - a steal! The brushless certainly perks them up a bit, the chassis can certainly take more power with ease. Hope your weekend is going well, mate! :))

That's a perfect speed , what fun buggy .I have a stock Avante aero in going to have to upgrade, doesn't even have bearings or real shocks but it's a good looking beast . Better start looking for parts , can't get enough of them.

Great speed test and Double RF action, Mark. Uhh, not much different than with the stock torque tuned. A few kph. But of course there are other benefits with the brushless. Still trying to figure out where the wibbly wobbly is. At least Rob’s is working 😉😉
Cheers my friend. Yeah, only a little faster top speed, but acceleration and battery life are greatly improved too, as you know! Rob's wibbly was truly wobbling in this one, whereas mine has shrunk so much you can't see it! :-)

Hiya Derek! You know, Rob is even more proud of his wibbly wobbly than me! You may have noticed that mine has disappeared altogether. I just don't know how to tell you this, it's got the 2.4G receiver from my Sand Viper in it! The only 2.4G I have (came as a bundle with the Viper) - but it still has a twin-stick controller! :-)
@@MarkBryanRC Sacre Bleu mon ami. 2.7G Whatever next ! Unfortunately there's no RC for me for a few weeks. I had an accident while opening a box with a knife this morning. I've sliced right along the length of my throttle finger. Because of my blood thinning tablets it bled quite a bit which was a frightening. We thought I would have to go to hospital for stitches, but although the cut is 3 inches long it's only about 3mm at the deepest. Angie rushed to the chemist and bought some special plaster strips which hold the skin together along the length of the cut. This stopped the bleeding, and she also got a metal splint so I don't bend my finger and open it up again. So my throttle finger is out of action for a while ! Luckily I have made quite a few videos recently when the weather's been nice, so I can keep my channel going for a while. But I may struggle with working on cars until its healed. So the anonymous brushless motor has the torque to pull tall gearing - what a bargain!
Before this build series, when I heard the name "Racing Fighter" I would involuntarily picture a WWF wrestler trying to get into the cockpit of an F1 car - now I picture a lean, mean off road buggy : )

I've had one for a while. just bought a sensorless 4000kv motor to drop in mine along with a lipo. Can't wait to see what speeds I get out of it

I use an outdated and unsupported version of Windows MovieMaker. You might find a download if you google it. It isn't very feature-rich, but does the basics very well. Good luck! :)
Nice vid mate. Enjoyed the car doing a wall of death across the tree at 4:16! You know I'm always dead confused when people talk about motor turns. I know that more turns is lower speed and higher torque and the opposite is true for fewer turns but by how much? I think I understand kv numbers on brushless motors and you just multiply the volts by the kv to get rpm. Also I'm not sure if it's just the slightly higher voltage of a lipo battery gives the higher top speed or if there is more to it than that. I know that lipos give you better acceleration. One thing those little GPS things don't give (I think) is the acceleration. Would give another level of nerdiness to these vids. I might do a video to compare nimh & lipo for top speed in the same car. Anyway hope your holiday is going well. We are just back from the steam fair and sorting out the camping gear. I can feel a light afternoon snooze coming on ! Laters matey :-)
Thanks Pete! Back off holiday today! I loved the tree-slap too - purely accidental! You are right about the motor turns, although more turns doesn't always mean more torque, but definitely less revs. I think it also matters how many poles the motor has, just to make it all a little more confusing! From what I understand, the higher voltage combined with the faster current delivery of a LiPo gives more punch and top speed. I'm frantically trying to catch up with everything, as well as just finishing a new video - catch you later my friend! :-)
great video! Thanks for the input! I know that with brushless and 2s and 3s you can hit over 22 mph! , my specific question, how fast can the dt 03 reach without quickly ending the differential? 19-20 mph is it wise for the car to keep its differential and pinion for a long time?
Thanks! As for our DT03 cars, the differentials and pinions are in perfect condition after a couple of years running the brushless setup and 20mph+. We have upgraded to steel pinions, though. These cars are very strong! 😁

Hi Matt - It's a great build, isn't it? I love mine, it's become one of my go-to runners. Well, the Torque Tuned motor is pretty good, especially if you run on 2s, unlike me with my NiMh! All the best my friend. :)

A few days have passed, I found a RF kit with the tuned motor and oil hop up shocks, got myself a handful of bearings to replace the bushings while I was at it having watched the build.
The manuals Tamiya supply are fantastic being to scale, as you pointed out👍.
The combination of the manual and your build vid ....play....pause....build ensured my first steps into an RC build were extremely rewarding and thoroughly enjoyable.

Pretty good ..Think my brushed one does about 30 plus or so but on a 3s lipo lol..I run that same 13.5 motor and Tamiya ESC in my HSP/Helion truck and on 3s with ESC fan it does wheelies down the whole block! Lol

Hi. Mine took a whack to the rear and now the motor whirs but no power to the wheels. I dismantled the back end and rebuilt to see if something was broken or loose. Seemed to work fine but now the same issue has occurred without warning.
Any advice what else I can try?
Hello! Hmmm - sounds like a real problem - it's difficult to tell when I cannot see the car - but maybe the pinion grub screw has come loose? Hope you find the issue soon! :)

I know it's possible to take any car from brush to brushless about +23 mph... my question is... can this chassis withstand an average speed of 22 or 23 mph? I know it has some plastic gears...and I'm worried about driving this car to about 24 mph and running out of spur, differential, etc... Greetings...

Hi Mickey - I can tell you that this RC can take brushless power, no problems! I've been running it for a couple of years now ant it has not broken anything. The gears in this rig are bulletproof! Greetings from Mark...

What battery? You should easily hit better speeds with a proper setup.

@@MarkBryanRC for off road bashing on a smaller circuit this indeed is more than enough. Recently switched from 19t to 17t on my dt-03 because it was too fast for the back yard.
