  • This faux Boro style sewing pouch was a slow stitch project I undertook to get me through the dark hibernation days of winter. It didn't go exactly to plan, but that's kind of the point with slow stitch, I think; to let it do what it wants, and just go with it. I love how it turned out, and I'm sure I'll really enjoy using it regularly for my slow stitching sewing projects.

      Well, cats do love couches, don't they? Snoozing on the human's warm spot on the couch, as soon as we get up.

    I've just discovered this type of sewing and I'm fascinated! I'm a garment sewer, I do embroidery, and I crochet. Now I know what to do with all the bits and pieces I've been saving! I love your sewing bag!

      Great. It's perfect for using up those bits, and you get some lovely design surprises when you put scraps together like this. You can even decorate more with the other techniques you enjoy, if you want a very layered look. You're going to have a lot of fun, and make a useful item, whatever you do. Have fun and thanks for the nice complement.

    Hi, new to your channel, and I love this, and all of its character, I make pouches, and mix up my slow stitch with machine stitches. And the faux boro stitch, that’s what makes it so cute, I just create what makes me happy!❤

      Hiya Bella. All the fun's ahead for you. I'm sure you've seen how most people are sewing their backing cloth face to face with the cloth you do the collaged pieces onto, leaving a little bit unsewn, so they can then turn the whole thing inside out, and have a hidden seam. I just didn't do that because I was using felt. Have a super time making it, and I'll be sure to drop over to your channel to see how yours is going, and how it turns out.

    Beautiful work. I’m new to slow stitching and I’m enjoying it so much. I’ve looked at your dyeing video too which I love. I experimented last year using tulip stamens and got a gorgeous blue/lilac colour. I return home next week, hopefully, after an extended stay in the UK due to the flu 🤒 ….. I have subscribed to your channel.

      I'm glad you liked the video, and sorry to hear you had the 'flu. I'm so enjoying learning more about dyeing as well, because it expands the range of colours you can get in scraps you collect for projects. I think my favourite thing about slow stitching is not being criticized for sewing slowly, which I've always done. The slower I sew, the more I like it. I got into it because of CZcamsrs like Din Life, and I'm chuffed you liked my stuff enough to subscribe. Part 2 of the latest one, the journal cover, should be up in a few days. Happy slow stitching and dyeing adventures, and thanks for telling me about them.

      Thank you. I didn't know it was going to be something figurative until it started going that way. The thing I'm working on now has more of a starting plan, because I got more ideas after doing the pouch, but who knows if it'll go to plan?

      @@Skavop good luck with it and enjoy. I love slow stitching but would like to experiment more like you’ve done!

    • @Skavop
      @Skavop  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Yes@@tfntexas Experimenting is what makes it so fun, and I think slow stitching is great that it's not all about getting things done quickly, and trying stuff out in a very relaxed and chilled out way. I love that I don't have to feel inferior for working as slowly as I want, and sometimes I take forever over a few stitches, just because I'm enjoying having lots of time, and no deadlines or pressure on me to finish quickly. I usually get lots of new ideas when I give them time and space to bubble up to the surface, instead of trying to force myself to think up something.

    This is wonderful. I am especially curious about how you did the closure. 💕💕💕💕💕🇨🇦💕💕💕💕💕

    • @Skavop
      @Skavop  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Thank you so much. I had a think about the closure, and decided not to sew the cord down all the way around, instead sewing it onto the backing, just inside the pouch part, before covering up the join with the felt lining. Then I wrapped the cord all the way around the pouch, and used a couple of little loops made from the love hearts ribbon, for it to go through, so it wouldn't move off centre, even though not sewn on all the way 'round. There are a few stitches holding it at the buttonhole, though, even if the cord the rest of the way is loose, to accomodate passng the front bit, below the button, behind the cord on the front pouch, securing everything when the cord wraps upward around the button. I may have given you a headache with my explanation, but it worked OK and wasn't a lot of work. The loops weren't even needed. I just liked the hearts, and I see you like 'em too.

      @@Skavop the closure is absolutely wonderful. I want to give it a try. It’s so elegant.

    • @Skavop
      @Skavop  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Well, thank you for the lovely complement. I'm glad you understood my explanation, which made it sound difficult, when it's not at all. Just remember to sew the very beginning of the cord down to the lining inside the pouch with a few backstitches BEFORE the felt goes on, to hide the beginning of the cord, and Bob's your uncle, as they say, for the rest to wrap around until you sew on the button on the front flap.The button stitches won't even show on the inside if you take it nice n' slow, and check how far your needle's going through.
