- This beautiful Hexagon sewing machine caught my eye at a recent auction so I decided to bid and managed to win the bidding against some stiff competition.
You can see the auction video here - • Auction of Antique and...
This Hexagon machine was manufactured for the Hexagon Sewing Machine Company Ltd by Standard Sewing Machine Co., Cleveland, Ohio.
The decal in the centre of the bed has the initials HSMC which I later found out stands for Hexagon Sewing Machine Company.
In this video I give the machine a general assessment and see if it's in sewing condition.
The machine is in reasonable condition although it could do with a clean up.
I show how to oil the machine, wind a bobbin, install the bobbin in the shuttle, install the shuttle, top threading and testing.
Sometimes the shuttles can be awkward to thread so I show a couple of tips to help with that.

I guess I will have to boil my bobbin shuffle with dish soap. It is not winding. My nails are dirty, but I have put my Hexagon to work. You are one of my gurus. Hours and hours watching your videos have been very worthy. Thank you! I became my own mechanic.
Nice old girl! Congrats.
With your front bobbin slide plate off:
You see that little round 🕳️ hole at the horizontal plane? That should be stuffed with clean wool and topped off with sm oil. That is where you oil the shuttle path. There's a little pinhole facing the sole of the shuttle. Take a needle and make sure that hole is clear of built-up debris. It's the same on the Singer 28 that this seems to be based off of.
Cheers from America! 🇺🇸
I think he knows how to fix machines. ;)
@@alp-1960 I think you can stay out of my comments and mind your own business!
@@rich-f-in-tx6388 Lol no need to be defensive, it was a light-hearted chide. Take care and happy sewing.
I have been driving by a antique shop for three years now that has a Hexagon treadle. I have 22 treadles and have run out of room. It’s a treat to at least learn what I can about the Hexagon. Thanks for sharing.
Just did a quick search, sewmuse said that there was a London Dealer from 1916-1924, which makes sense from our NZ point of view. Nice to a see a vibrating shuttle machine in such nice order (for us). Cheers from the Naki!
Beautiful machine. I have a 1920 German vesta b sews so nice. My camping machine.
I love that smooth mechanical action. Have to think kids would love to help winding those bobbins.
old but works great👍
A lite rub with some Eagle one never dull on the metal parts, will have them brand new in seconds. Take the parts off and do it, DO NOT do it while there on the machine. It will cloud the clear coat
Any updates for this beauty? Thank you, interesting as always.
Not as yet but I plan on getting more videos out over my Xmas break so it may make it in with those. Thanks.
I probably watched this video more than any of your other viewers. I just got this machine yesterday. i used to see my grandmother sewing in a singer but thats all the experience i have. So i watched again and again your video to learn how to thread it, etc, but coudnt understand how you put the thread in the tension spring hook. i am having trouble with the tension spring. the thread feels too tight. So i removed everything (spring, etc) and played a little bit with it, but was not able to fix the problem with the tension. I know i did something wrong, when i tried to put everything back again, and threaded the machine. is sewing a good stich though but the spring hook, feels hard, it harly moves. Would you mind showing how to assemble back everything properly, how to fix the problem with the tension, and how to put the thread in the spring hook, and also how to used the machine as a treadle ? I think it will be much easier for me to used it like this. i want to mention that the machine is missing the tension release mechanism. Thanks a lot.
I recently purchased an exagon, would you happen to know where i can get the rubber ring (the one that is attached to the winding mechanism). what diameter should it get? I understand singer accesories for models 28, & 128 will fit? Thanks
