- Today the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced they will add the wolverine in the Lower 48 states as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act. In this video I discuss the pros and cons of the listing, and how it could negatively affect us as trappers and resource users.

Thank you for your time an insight, , IT'S Funny to me that no one asks trappers about the animals they observe day in an day out , They Are the ones with the most current up to date info an knowledge on most wildlife in the lower 48 .. An they would fo it for free !!!
Well said!
Gladvyou ate nearby in Maine. I am from N.H.
Had one on trail camera this year in Michigan. Showed pic to DNR and they said they could say that it was not a badger and that’s all they could say lol
Very informative thanks
Thank you
Not bad work has been busy so haven't set anything no time. Missed you at Neil's had a great time with 2 famous people lol
ESA ...... started out as a ''tool'' , now a weapon ! Im all for the wolverine and would love to see it thrive but ''they'' wont do anything for them but put them on the list !
I agree ottercat. That is a great way of putting it...a weapon.
Most government agencies have been weaponized against us . Linx is trapped across the border
It'd be nice to see them on the east coast!!!
I enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Could be, but habitat in maine is nothing like it was when wolverines were here. And we had herds of woodland caribou back then.
Man this guy is exactly like me, an obsession over North American wildlife and wildlife history this is my kinda guy.
Glad you enjoyed
I’m surprised that coyote trapping can take place according to these regulations in states that have wolves. With the example of grizzlies and lynx it makes me think of wolf/coyote trapping. I live in the UP and catch a lot of wolves trapping coyotes. Caught more wolves this year than coyotes in fact. But there is a chance to do damage to wolves while trapping coyotes so im surprised they don’t stop the coyote trapping then too.
In 1999-2001 I ran into a gentleman carrying boxes in the woods. We struck up a conversation and he explained that they were doing a study to see what type of animals were in the area. They were using chalk boxes on diamond mountain in Northern CA between Westwood and Susanville and they recorded at least one wolverine going into the boxes.
Wow that is cool
Good Video Came out early this time. Good to hear your take on this. Just another tool to stop trapping. Saw the first martin and fisher in Maine about 20 years ago, don't see them here where I live. I enjoy your video's Take Care Stay Safe Out There..
Thank you!
Well thought out presentation sir. As a recreational trapper I've always thought that the trap sizes being used in wolf trapping was somewhat ridiculous. A Bridger # three is plenty of trap for any wolf, and if a trap is being used that's powerful enough to injure a Grizzly Bear, then, well, maybe someone has to step in to say enough is enough. It would be much better for us trappers to self regulate but in these days and times bigger is always better. Problem is maybe common sense ain"t keeping up with trap sizes. Kind of like the fool that sets his 330 next to the local parks hiking trail. That guy is doing more to damage your right to trap then all the anti's in the world. Anyway, just a thought.
I genuinely don’t see how a wolf trap could hurt a grizzly the same wolf traps are used for beaver I want to say trapper j got his hand in a beaver trap and he was fine
@@bynumfranks226 Yeah, that Trapper J is a trip. Anyway, it was just a thought.
What about alaska? Also I wonder if there is some sort of provision for indigenous trappers for harvest in ceremonial purposes, potlatches and various ceremonies involving Native Alaskans?
This does not affect Alaska. Just the lower 48.
I just got a wolverine on trail camera in Idaho. I feel pretty lucky to get a picture
Right on, that's awesome!
Noooo oh wait we don't have wolverine here now
Wow just horrible. If they want to use numbers trappers will soon be on the Endangered Species list. Now I didn’t hear you mention Alaska. Will it effect us up here?
Hey EG for sure we're becoming endangered! You're all set in AK, just affects the lower 48
@@trappingtoday I hope alls well with you and your family. I ended up as the first chief here now. Gunna have to really fight to get the time to trap this winter, but I’ll figure it out👍. Take care my friend
I think we need to add anti trappers to the list of varmints to hunt an trap. There numbers are not in danger.
Good info. You still going to be doing trapping vids? I enjoy those!
Gonna try, Tommy. Finding the time is hard but we'll see how things go
Where the money
We have wolverines in Montana. Canada has them. Alaska has them. Russia and Norway. But they are endangered of course. Alligators are endangered in Montana. I guess numbers don't count, just arbitrary borders drawn on paper.
Good point
IT'S funny how quick they can get a animal on the list but we have waited how long to get the lynx off???!!!!
To be fair they have been trying to list wolverine for a couple decades now. But you're right, takes forever
Maby I missed this but is the listing going to be done on a state by state basis or nationwide. Here in Alaska we have more wolverine than we can keep up with.
It's for the lower 48 states
I have been afraid of this happening for years. Another weapon for the death of a thousand cuts.
@gibbsadventures12 do you have a similar act in Canada?
Sounds like it's a mess
ya trapping is on its way out! 😢😢
Well....trapping as we currently know it is changing.
@@trappingtoday I know someone out in Idaho and he knows all about this crap that is going on. Disgusting!
I'm moving to Alaska in the spring, just saying
Haha I hear ya! If I weren't so settled here I would be up there already.
@trappingtoday once me and the girlfriend get settled in,you'd be more then welcome to come up to trap with us.
I live in Idaho and there ain't much anymore that hasn't been raped by the Mass influx of people moving to the state. Even the Frank Church wilderness never seems to stop with the flow of people going in and out.
Yeah I bet you guys have seen a lot of changes the past few years
How you doing Kidd
hangin in there, finally got some sets out for marten/fisher the other day. how about you?
No they not all bull crap
Actually, people, mostly white men, did not get along with wolverines, not the other way around.
