Trappers trap for the love of trapping.!! Whatever money they can recover is just a bonus.
The ruble is down because we did that. They were an Allie untill the current administration. They ruined our treaty with russia. Then russia figured they were free to wag war with someone. They did buy most of our fur. China wants it. But won't pay much. They make it to every auction.
The mink ranches around here closed up shop. I assumed from fur prices.
Great unboxing! Thanks for sharing
Buy no. BS dogproofs instead of footholds
Rumors I heard for rats was 5 bucks, thanks for clearing that up
Thanks for the demo, this is exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks for posting.
I can’t find that model of PIT online anywhere.
How long will the Essence last for, like a best before date concept. It’s illegal to have pepper spray in Canada but what if a skunk sprayer? 🤔
You'll spend that much on gas.
Does the sac oil need preservatives?
Very good information, thanks much!!
Hi, been looking at your drumming video, do you still drum your fisher and marten pelts. Am interested in the idea of drumming and wondered if really is worth it. Thank you
It maybe true that there are many issues that are contributing to the decline of a specific species in any particular regions. It is very hard especially with animals that are migratory. Still, no matter what may be the cause, why would we want to hasten the decline of any animals, even if it is a very minute number. There have been many instances where certain programs have successfully reintroduced native species to their original habitats: wolves in Yellowstone, MuskOx in Alaska, bald eagles in North America, etc. Other instances where there was re-introductions that haven’t been so successful, for example many different species of Whales, who by their migratory issues spend time both in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, are still being overfished by Countries like Iceland, Norway, and Japan. There has also been issues around Cape Cod, Massachusetts, U.S.A., with the successful rebound of the Sea Lions, have radically altered the number of Great White Sharks that are now spending time there, which has ended with one death, and several attacks, although it IS still a very remote chance that you will become a victim ( My family has had a summer home there since the 1970s) This brings me neatly to the fact that there are often lies (too strong a word, but not sure of another one that would be more appropriate) that a lot of people believe: ie that the increase in Sea Lions have greatly reduced the amount of fish available for fishermen or that powdered Rhino horn can have a medical benefit. Sorry, don’t mean to babble on, but just wanted to lay out how I do understand how a complicated the issue is. I believe that a common sense approach, w/o harsh rhetoric from either side, would work, or at least wouldn’t make it any worse. Hunters/Trappers who are living a sustainable lifestyle should be eligible for limited permits, for example there are certain Alaskans that because of their cultural heritage are allowed one whales and there are also individuals who really live off the land who maybe SHOULD also be allowed a limited license. I grew up in Pennsylvania, in fact as a kid, we got the first day of Buck Season off and the opening of doe season could be a legal absence, you just had to bring in a copy of the current year’s license. I know the value of culling the herds so the animals don’t suffer, especially during the winter months. In addition there are plenty of invasive species, on both land and water, that if you aren’t going to utilize the majority of the animal for food, fur (and/or skin, fat ) or that by hunting you aren’t assisting somehow in the betterment of the species, maybe people should explore other avenues or at the very least really give it some thought. What I don’t agree with is the argument that you have a right to hunt/trap/fish anything you want just because you enjoy it as recreation or sport. Wild Hogs are causing an incredible amount of damage in places like Arkansas and aren’t supposed to be there, there are Boa Constrictor competitions in Florida and there are snakehead fish that are not supposed to be there, and they are eating all the native wildlife. All of these animals create quite a hunting challenge and individuals have started running and operating tracking-hunting lodges, clubs etc. Maybe I’m way off base, but I am so exhausted with how the politicians, special interest groups etc are so invested in radicalizing every issue just because by keeping all of us dumb and divided, it benefits them! Sorry-I’ll step off the soapbox. 😜
Great video bro, i definitely enjoyed it
Thanks
Is there gas that comes off the meat that would put pressure on the lid?
If it is well salted, bacteria growth will be prevented and no gas.
Here.....Pocket gophers township bounty $5+$4 from telephone company = $9 each ;)
Nice
I guess what we tell people is stay home and play video games....its more lucrative.
Hard work Trapping, slim results for that Hard work...
For sure
I was a farmer for 15 years the fur business was the second oldest business in the world other than prostitution and now the fur market is totally shot here in Canada the radical liberals have ended it with regulations like everything else going on in the world 🌎
I have caught beaver in a 220 . It all comes to how you have the trigger wires set . Just like I talked and seen some that have otter mess up their 330 . It is because how they have the wires set on the trap . I seen some otter that had to rings around the skin it show that the person did not have the wires set right.
man, those prices suck. I trapped for a living back in the 1970's and did wayyyyyyy better then. I guess the anti fur gang has ruined the market. its a hell of a lot of work to run two trap lines, skin flesh stretch and dry furs and to only get those prices, man I feel for ya. tough market I guess.
In the late 60's small muskrat brought $1 or more.
I was getting 12 for a male mink, 18 for a female, 42 for red fox, 35for grey fox, large coon, 18, and 9 bucks for #1muskrat. that was 1977/8 as I remember. I think we were even getting 2 for possum. that was the best muskrat price I ever got. other years, they were around 3 to 5 bucks. Mind you, I skinned fleshed and stretched my furs and they were in prime shape when I took them to Johnny bill freshwater, the fur buyer. Ive seen guys just freezing whole and not skinning and selling that way. that would have gotten a trapper laughed at back when I trapped.@@paulskopic5844
Yeah I made a pretty good living trapping before I went into the service in 1982, and when I got out in 1986 the fur markets went to shit because of PETA. I doubt if it will ever be like it was sadly.
yeah, PETA...People Eating Tasty Animals@@brianlanders8028
Most of the damage to the fur market is caused by the switch to farm raised fur rather than wild for
Thanks
Miss the days when fox was $60, coyotes were $125, and coons were $40...Still remember laughing at the fur activists then saying they will never affect the market. 😢
I used to average $45-50 for coon in the late 70s. Topped out at $70. Minnesota coon
Yeah I ended up doing better on my raccoon than I was expecting
Great perspective on the overall market. Packing fees are killing the auction, no longer run as a commission based transaction.
Nice to see most prices improving.
For sure
Found your channel tonight, and I think you’re doing a great job and providing a good service! Where are you located or where was the auction held at? Thanks
Hi James, glad you found the channel. I'm located in Maine. The Fur Harvesters Auction takes place in North Bay Ontario.
Thank you!
You're welcome
Miss your trapping videos.
Big plans for next season, Tommy
@@trappingtoday Excellent!!
$25 for western coyote and almost zero demand. FHA went through page after page of them with almost zero offers.
Yeah virtually no market for coyotes right now. Shows how dependent the market can be on fashion trends.
@@trappingtoday Canada Goose is now essentially bankrupt. It doesn't help the fur market but it makes me feel a bit better that they are paying for their decision to stop using wild fur. LOL
@@GoldCountryTrapping I agree. Their stock price has dropped like a rock the last 5 years!
Thank you!
You bet!
Thanks for the info..

This was the best discussion I have ever experienced on the economics of the fur industry and connection to we producers.
Thanks Dan, I'm glad it was helpful!
Thanks Dan! Appreciate the kind words.
If you are still trapping IT must be that you love the lifestyle the challenge of it or just have a need to do it And that's ok if you like it do it But for me trapping Is fun but I can't do it just for fun! But gosh I sure miss it
I hear ya!
Thanks for the update bud
No problem 👍
Congratulations!
I appreciate all you are doing for Trapping Today (No pun intended) Jeremiah. Its never been about money for me, but its nice to hear the market isnt completely junk. I tan most of my hides and sell privately. But its good the market is semi alive again! Just gonna be glad to have my son along next season with his own line!
Thank you!
Just found your channel just about an hour ago and of all the channels I’ve watched all these years you are IMMEDIATELY my favorite trapping channel. Great job keep up the good work I appreciate your time and willingness to share.
Awesome, thank you and glad you found the channel!!
Good summary on the sale, I believe muskrats will start selling next sale both SAGA and Kopenhagen had good March sales will trickle down to muskrats, just takes time.
Thanks Jim, that would be good!
Thanks for the info. Enjoyed listening to your thoughts.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Wow, back in '78 I got $35 for badger.
Yeah it's crazy to think that's a great price today, but it's much better than 5 years ago!!
Good job Jeremiah ! Let's keep our fingers crossed for next year !
For sure!
It is disgusting that people would even consider wearing fur in 2024. I am NOT saying that it should be banned or anything like that, we live in a free country. I only ask people to make better decisions.
You're in the wrong place
Ignorant and uneducated on the matter! Bye now!
You need to go educate yourself on trapping, you do not know what you are talking about.
Every time you see Stetson cowboy hat you’re looking at beaver and always have been. Faux fur is for faux people.
Maybe if more people would have wore more fur and leather and cotton and wool instead of plastics we wouldn’t have to pay carbon taxes I blame peta and every animal activists that destroyed our industries
Im a newer trapper i really appreciate this info. I held my fur but im excited about the future. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
