The film made me think of, despite there being three of them, the episode where Sponebob and Squidward go out to sea with Mr.Krabs to fish. As the time goes on Mr. Krabs starts going insane and ends ups with being eaten with only his head and arm left. Classic!

The lobster was just an excuse. He had been waiting to say all of that ever since Tommy (not Winslow) killed the seagull.
It is also curious to note that the curse was placed on the wrong name. Winslow was a false name, and Tommy thus tricked the old man into misplacing the curse. This adds to the notion that Pattinson's character is, in a sense, Prometheus.
Thereâs a mythological angle, but itâs also closely linked to the theme of male insecurity in this film. The lobster, and Wakeâs emphasis on its acceptance, is kind of phallic in nature. As such, Winslow/Tommyâs degrading of it has almost a castrating effect on Wake. Any time a character is intimidated in this film, there is a need to try and assert their male dominance. Consider also the proximity of this speech to the almost make out scene of the film. Plus a Lighthouse is kind of just a massive dick
âYou canât play backstory, you can only play your actions.â This is something that literally every actor must follow.

Willem Dafoe reaffirming my theory that people with real talent have no bullshit about them. He's not evasive or moody or dark in interviews, there's no pretence. Open about the process, talks about it in ways that shows you he has put a tremendous amount of thought into it.

I stopped hearing it sometimes, rewatching the film I realised it was almost always in the background, but I had not noticed sometimes. Didn't think about it afterwards, then I was going to sleep listing to "seaside rain" as a sleep aid, after a while a distant fog horn sounded and I practicly jumped out of bed! Great sound design that definatly got under my skin.

The Lighthouse is one of the best movies I've ever seen. Robert Pattinson has come such a long way since Twilight and has matured as an actor. And Willem Dafoe's monologue/curse without blinking his eyes is some of the best acting I've ever seen. Robert Eggers is a brilliant director. He has The Witch under his belt, and now this. This guy and Ari Aster are ones to watch In the future!

We have the Lighthouse, Midsommar, Parasite, Uncut Gems, Booksmart, and movies I havenât gotten to see yet but have heard so much about like 1917, Little Women, and plenty more I know Iâm forgetting. Just such an amazing year for film.

Im so happy that Robert Pattinson continues to get roles that allow him to show his acting chops. Twilight has been such a stain against him that he had to work uphill but by god has he done it. Fantastic actor, cannot wait to see what he becomes as he continues to gain experience
The guy from the 50 Shades movies is going through the same situation. He's actually quite a decent actor but those movies will forever follow the poor man. The female actress did wonderfully in the Suspiria remake, so it just proves they were in bad movies, not necessarily that they're bad actors.

I also find it funny/adorable that Pattinson has this intense, almost angry face(do yall SEE those eyebrows), but he's so soft-spoken and even trips over his words sometimes.

dafoe talking so passionately about acting is so great to watch. Seeing him talk about his process of acting with that smile and lift in his voice, heâs properly beaming, watching someone talk about something they love so much is such a lovely thing to see

Robert Pattinson is still gorgeous as ever!
Willem acknowledging the language and its elevation is one of several reasons why I love him. He's not just an actor, he's very aware and very intelligent. He's also very down to earth and appreciative of the people and the world around him. Robert's acknowledging of the perspective of him and Willem regarding the film is also very interesting. For me, it's obvious the film is a purgatory sort of landscape. The end of which collapses upon Robert with the seagulls and his carrion self. But it's not *inherent* to the film in that if you see otherwise you're not wrong at all.
If there's one filmmaker who would be able to make At the Mountains of Madness, it's Robert Eggers

I'm hearing good rumors that the new Batman is gonna be mainly a detective story and not that action oriented so i think they are gonna use the talent he has very good.I would love a somewhat horror movie of Batman with a good mystery in it. Can we talk about how according to CZcams, The Lighthouse is considered a science fiction film? Because if any film could be the furthest from science fiction, itâs this one.
I don't know, I think the power of the light being transformative, the mermaids whether real or imagined, krakens, and the transformation of Proteus could fall under sci-fi since we don't categorize things under mythology.

I have little familiarity with the teachings of Jung (Ego and Superego) and Freud (the power of the sexual urge on oneÂŽs mind) as my grandfather was a psychologist and we talked often and yes by the end i was mesmerized by the movie and how i believe (like you) touched on so many topics/layers of the mind, the conscious, subconscious and even the unconscious one !
Then, as i do with things that find amazing and inspiring, went on a interview binge and find out that Robbert Eggers wife is a psychologist herself and that he likes (Eggers) to see his movies with her wife colleagues as they can see a lot of stuff most people miss.

The film only got nominated for Best Cinematography. The Academy Awards used to be a ceremony that used to honor the very best. Nowadays its political and if a film gets honored with many nominations that it deserves it's pretty much a miracle. While it would have been cool for Pattinson and Dafoe to be nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, as well as other major awards like Best Picture, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, the fact this film only got one nomination at the Oscars, will probably reflect how this film will be remembered. I'm sure many films that will win major awards won't be remembered as well as others that didn't receive an award or even a nomination. Some that will be recognized will be looked at as just a favorite of the moment with little to no longevity, while others will be remembered for years to come. I believe The Lighthouse falls in the latter category.

Christ can you imagine the outtakes for this film? Iâd love to see how many times they flubbed the time-period language, because Iâm sure that was a massive challenge to nail down.
Robert and Willem both deserved Oscar noms for this film and I will die on this hill.
My favorite thing from these promo interviews is listening to Willem talk film, and hearing how much he loves doing it. Thatâs why he raised the bar for this movie so much, because he cares about good storytelling. He was born for this role
Seriously Oscars?! Are you out of your mind?? Don't pass this movie up because it's the best of all the films of this year. THIS is acting at it's finest. Brilliant film. Wake the hell up Oscars. This wins best actor, best supporting actor, best script, best director and best picture. This is the movie of the year...and YES, damnit...I LOVE Willem Defoe's lobster.
I always admired Willemâs acting, but this movie really put him on a whole another level of greatness! And Robert wasnât bad either! Great film, haunting, insane, itâs really an experience!

Honestly one of the best horror films Iâve seen in a really long time. If a movie like this can leave me thinking about it for days after I saw it, then itâs an amazing film. I wish there were more movies like this

Good for Robert for doing a great job in getting away from that "Twilight" stigma. A lot of actors play a part, in a movie and its sequels, and can never really shake off always being seen as that character.

Sounds like Dafoe does a script break-down, line by line, beat by beat, understanding what he wants to be doing with his body and face at every moment and WHY.
Pattinson sounds like he reads the script, and tries doing it in different ways, and then if it feels right, he'll do that way on the day.
Some directors probably do want all their actors to be the first way, but definitely some understand there's room for actors like the second.
Willem's right, Robert has years to get all technical with his craft, what he's doing now is working, he should keep it up while learning from the best.
I loved this film and I think Willem Dafoe is one of the greats. I love to hear him talk about acting. Such a thoughtful man and a great communicator.

Award ceremonies exist to generate hype, feed egos and make people worship show business made in Hollywood, not to award the art of film making. There are dozens if not hundreds of snubs every year in all categories, and most of the time you already know who's winning because it's rigged from the get go. Bottom line, award shows are totally irrelevant.

honestly one of the best movies ive ever seen. It really clicked with me because I've thought of wild and dark stories like this, and no other director has come close to capturing how I would do a movie in my head. But Robert Eggers has!
Willem Dafoe is one of my favourite actors has been for decades. The way they spoke wasn't that far away from how people spoke from that era in that part of the U.S. The colonies basically sounded like a mix of English/Welsh/Scots/Irish accents with various regional accents in the U.K. Listen to a Bristolian accent or South West accent from the U.K it's not that hard to see how that became an American accent...
I really like Pattinson's voice. It's really charming and relaxing.
