months ago I was first diagnosed with diabetes and my number was 250 I was on my up there and the truth is if I hadn't took my blood test and find out about my blood sugar range I wouldn't be here today and I would of suffered a diabetic coma and thankfully by the Grace of God I didn't ignore the blood test and my doctor caught it before it done reached it's peek. And lately since my last visit at the clinic with my doctor I had done a whole complete 360 and started exercising more and eating alot of vegetables and alot of protein. It is showing completely different results. And my blood sugar is 120 and I am continuing my progress to get it lower back to normal but I know it for sure that it will happen on my next visit with my doctor next year praying hands together and keep them fingers crossed for me.

Good video, I watched a couple others on the subject before this one, and this was the first clear simple explanation. Thank you. I've been doing a low carb diet and decided to start checking my blood glucose just to have a better idea of whats going on in my body and today was my first doing tests. Right after getting out of bed it was 91 and only up to 101 two hours after breakfast, so I seem to be in good shape. I'm also doing OMAD and breakfast is the only meal I eat so I think two measurements a day is all I'll take.

Your dad needs to see a doctor and get an A1C blood test. This tells you and him what his average blood sugar has been over the last 90 days.
If his blood sugar is in the diabetic range, there are medicines he can take to lower it. He can also lose weight if he’s overweight and that will can help. Last, if diabetic, his diet should NOT include anything with added sugar at all. Potatoes, rice, pasta, chips, candy and bread (including all forms of pastry) all should be restricted or eliminated because these cause big blood sugar spikes in diabetic people.
Diet changes are hard, but if he sticks to it, it gets easier. Diet is one area where he can likely bring his blood sugar down significantly.
Ignoring diabetes can lead to irreversible blindness and kidney failure.
Kidney disease from uncontrolled diabetes often has no symptoms until the last stage where it becomes an emergency and dialysis is needed.
Get your dad checked and treated as needed to avoid diabetes complications.

When I hear doctors want your blood sugar first thing in the morning I wonder if they take into account the Don phenomenon.
Yesterday at 8:00 a.m. was my last meal. At 9:30 at night my glucose was 85. I ate nothing only drank water and woke up with the 113 reading
13 hours into a fast I was normal but waking up 23 hours into a fast my glucose was higher and in the range that would call me pre-diabetic.
I'm adding this not to take anything away but hopefully to added to the conversation

      I've had that happen too.
I attribute it to sometimes I get ibs from fibromyalgia.. and digestion slows down.
If I don't include 45 minutes of a cardio activity after I eat in the morning, I can't keep it straight.
Long as I do, I don't have to do gymnastics around it.
I might sweep my rug with a broom instead of vacuum. Or take a brisk walk, rake leaves or lawn just to move.
Anything that get my heart rate up.
Got Neuro Lyme and have tough time keeping up in mornings right now, so been doing it afternoon. It doesn't do the same..

Testing blood sugar in the morning isn't a good standard as a fasting test... because of the "dawn effect" which is fairly common. Before waking up your body increases your blood sugar levels to aid you in preparation of your day.

Beware::: I selected parsley, cinnamon, garlic, oregano, dark chocolate, ginger, allspice and blueberries all in a desperate effort to get their anti inflammatory properties. I was convinced lack of sleep and inability to remain asleep was due to brain inflammation. Taking so much parsley and the other things, over time, lowered my blood glucose level to 59 mg/dL even after eating!
These do offer good anti inflammatory properties, but need to be taken carefully.

It's all very well. But the body can keep your glucose stable right up until the time when your insulin resistance crashed out and you can be a diabetic in a day. What you really need is a fasting insulin test which shows just how much your body is struggling to keep up with the avalanche of sugar most of us are eating. If your A1c is high then that helps, but the meaure is a long term proxy.

today my second meal was a little larger than usual so before I checked my sugar 2 hours after eating I expected it to be around 120. It was 81.
What could have caused it? Did my insulin sensitivity increased since I have been fasting and my body has too much of it ? An hour later it was 88. It shouldn't be this low 2-3 hours after eating. Should I be worried?

      It’s the exact opposite.
Our bodies evolved in environments absent many of the carbs we know, and zero of the processed foods abundant around us today. The bodies that were good at shunting the rare sugars found to the brain were better able to survive. Insulin resistance in muscle does just that
Our body is working for us.
Life… life is working for us.
The profiting carb pushers- they are working against us.
Maybe we should stop paying farmers to grow the soy, corn, and wheat that become the boxed stuff. Or, maybe, stop lending money to sugar producers. No farmers receive a subsidy for growing a vegetable.
(If you’re in the us this would be a good start. Different countries see different facets of the problem. )

First thanks for the video, it was some good information!
Second, I am going on a long fast...don't know exactly how long yet.
I am an older man, have no major health issues and 7 days in my blood sugar is 87 in the evening...just got the meter.
I have been on many fasts over the years and the longest was 40 days most of them just water.
Feeling hungry has no real effect on me except feeling hungry, but being of strong mind is enough to get through the process for me.
So I have heard down through the 60's is OK but you do not want to go lower than that? Is that reasonable?
I have never checked anything like this before and just ran on pure ignorance...LOL.

100 grams is a lot of carbs. cut it in half and check your results. may need to reduce the carbs to 25 grams a day. what happens is this, you will find that you are not hungry.

So, I was curious one day and my diabetic uncle asked me if I would like to see where my blood sugar levels were at. I said yes. I took this test an hour and a half after lunch. The monitor read 169. I immediately freaked out. From that day on, I went on a strict diet and started working out. Two sentences I thought I would never hear myself say🤣. When I'm fasting, my numbers are usually between 90-95. And when I eat lunch and or dinner, I check every 2 hours. Its usually at about 101-105 after a meal. This fun curiosity happened 2 weeks ago. I'm glad I took action before it was too late. So, the video kind of summed it up for me. But my question is: are these numbers normal? Should I keep on doing what I do?

169 half an hour after eating a larger meal or a carb-y snack doesn't sound that insane, but I'm not a doctor, although I read from a medical site that right after eating, under 180 is normal; the levels shown here are 2 hours later. It's good to make sure you avoid becoming prediabetic and it sounds like your lifestyle changes are a positive, but even your pre lifestyle change number doesn't sound that concerning.

You're doing great and on the right track. Just keep focusing on eating mostly low glycemic index foods..some mid, and avoid the high glycemic foods.. and continue working out regularly. 👍

Everyone gets spikes from eating. If your blood sugar goes back under 100 two to three hours after eating, you’re fine. When you have diabetes, after a spike, your blood sugar will not go back to normal without medicine to help it.
You would be better off reducing the number of spikes you have. Some people snack all day long, which keeps the spikes going all day long. Also, be mindful of what you eat. Chips, pizza, bread, potatoes, pasta and any food with sugar added all cause big spikes because they are high carb. Things like eggs, meat, cheese, nuts and most vegetables are really low carb. Eating lower carb reduces spikes. Eating 3 times a day (or less) is better than grazing all day because your blood sugar will stay in the normal range more often.

I've read 8 hours...normally testing your blood sugar levels after a night's sleep, done in the morning with out eating anything is a more accurate fasting reading.

Thanks for this clear introduction. But Doesn’t the 2 hour test considerably depend on the type of food I eat. If I eat a steak and veggies, my reading after 2h will totally different to having 3 pieces of cake. What should be used here as a meal?
