- Geely came into the Philippines strong with the Coolray. And now they're setting up for another strong offering with the new 2024 Coolray with an enhanced 1.5L four cylinder turbo that gets more power, an improved DCT, more features, and a new design. Vince flew to Geely's factory in China to check it out.

I understand why others hate chinese cars, either a previous bad experience or politically motivated but what I like about Geely is its a market disruptor that makes the consumer the winner by forcing legacy brands to be more competative in their offer, features and pricing.
In the end the legacy brands win
Geely is not a threat to Legacy Brands. Geely and most of the Chinese car brands in the Philippines dont offer volume seller models in the segments of subcompact sedan, MPV, Ladder Frame SUVs, pick-up trucks and vans. Even the unpopular Yaris Cross almost single handedly outsold the entire Geely line-up in 2023😂.
China is the winner. All these chinese brands, geely, mg, byd, etc., use the money earned from filipinos to pay taxes to the chinese gov't which the chinese gov't is also using to fund their navy and militia that bullies the philippines. Salamat mga kababayan sa pag tataksil sa ating bansa.
Yes, maraming products ngayon made in china. May mga gamit tayong made in china. Kaso no choice tayo sa mga yun eh, puro made in china tlga. Pero sa mga sasakyan, may choice tayo. Pwedeng korean, japanese, american, german, etc. Pwede nga made in the philippines (vios, mirage, innova, etc). Tapos pipiliin parin yung galing sa companies na nagbabayad ng tax sa china. Magsilipat nalang kayo sa china kung ganyan.

The coolrays doors exterior panels are more rigid and stiffer than the Fortuner. Try nyo. I have a parking buddy na naka fortuner, ang lambot ng body panels nya compared sa coolray.
Love that the new DRLs and thicker steering wheel design, looking like the same with emgrand. They now look even more elegant ❤

In all China Brands… Mas ma uuna ko bilihin at i try ang Geely in particular ito Coolray. Hindi siya halata immitation to a Japanese or other Car Brands. Hindi natin masasabi na immitation of Volvo since directly sister company sila. But I hope all parts availability and great after sales service much be improved most. Learned from a Vlogger naka affect sa kanila sales.
Same, out of all chinese car brands, sa Geely ako tumaya, no regrets so far. Normal maintenance no issues, not sure sa mga warranty claim for new parts but since Sojitz is no longer managing it, Geely na mismo, hopefully mas gumanda pa.

Why is it not yet launched in the Philippines? There are so many other new launches here - Kia sonet, Toyota Yaris Cross, Mitsubishi XForce... But one of the most attractive car is not yet arrived! You can get it in Cambodia, Russia, Saudi Arabia - even in Chile! But not in the Philippines? Very sad...

In PH right now for a month vacation.
Rented an automatic 2023 Geely coolray. From long distances to driving up a mountain.
The car PULLS. And overtakes easily. Comfy silent drive packed with tech.
It went up a steep mountain roads like its nothing. And in sportsmode makes overtaking a breeze. (In PH you have to overtake else you will take forever following a slower vehicle or truck.
So far that 1.5 turbocharged engine seems to be good
The Geely is like half a million php cheaper than a japanese equivalent (example the nissan xtrail got 360 cameras but still missing what tech the Geely coolray has) And has everything. From sunroof, 360 camera, reversing camera, overtake camera, blind spot sensor, very poky engine on sports mode, turbo, very quiet inside too, you cannot hear the engine. Flappy paddle gear box and can go full auto as well.
I would say, if the car can withstand usual asian uses without issues then it is a great car. It still needs to be road tested for me. But right now, it seems like a great car at 1mil php. With the promo price.
Then again the rented geely I drove only has 19,000 km. Thats like 11,800 miles. In comparison I have a 2010 Ford focus in the UK at 141,000 Miles.
If the geely coolray Engine can survive even 70k miles with all its tech. Then yes its gonna be a good car for sure.
But thats the thing, in PH cars usually live their life for yearsssss. Like yearsssss. And the most important thing is the Engine. It has to survive and has to be reliable.
Thats is why most people prefer going for japanese cars.
Powerful small cycliner engine like these are usually unreliable due to its turbo. Theres a reason why the toyotas been underpowered but unkillable engines.

Also, engine size turbo or not, does not make a car engine reliable or not.
Engine reliability is due to good engine design, good materials used to make it and are tested. And correct periodic checks and maintenance.
I have a Ford Focus 2010 MT Turbo with 141,000 miles. That is 227,000 km. And it's a 1.5L engine.
To prove reliability, someone has to rack more mileage on a car. Or join Dakar Rally with it, which is what ford, Toyota, Nissan, mitsubishi are known for to test their cars. To further improve reliability.

Almost one year na rin dito yung bagong Geely Coolray. Medyo mahal na sya ngayon halos nasa 1.42Mphp para sa Sport from the 2020 model na 990kphp Sport din without tax. Pansin ko lang review, hindi power tailgate and hindi din black lining yung ceiling sa loob. Baka iba lang talaga yung trim para dito sa Qatar.
Been driving my GCR SE for almost 2 years now w/ 35K kms. in the ODO (about 54Kms daily drive from Binan to Pasig). No major mechanical problems encountered so far...only minor ones like rear right power window failure w/c was corrected by doing a reset, one of the USB port at the front left has no power & according to casa, MMI needs to be replaced (under warranty). After sales will still be the challenge for Geely & parts availability. I'm sure this new model has a lot of upgrades including probably a 360 dashcam recording & vents at the rear seats,
There is a 360 degree DVR on the current unit tho. You just need an SD card to activate it

@@charliebravo08 the new model coming out can now record 360 deg. So far I am satisfied w/ the coolray having driven it everyday for 60kms. Now on its 2nd year w/o any major issues so far.

4 cylinder= less vibration and more power. I hope geely will use AISIN traditional transmission compare to DCT
Geely's DCT is actually good 😊
AISIN trannys suck.
The DCT of the coolray is miles ahead in performance and smoothness.
The only other tranny that makes sense is the ZF.

This update makes it head to head to emzoom R. Dimension seems the same making the emzoom R still longer and wider. ADAS are now almost the same. If they price it right, Geely will take the lead.

I disagree. The coolrays 3 cylinder is smooth. Even smoother than most 4 cylinders out there. The HRVs engine shakes more than the coolray's.

I can tell you don't own a coolray hahaha the 3cylinder engine doesn't vibrate like a diesel, on idle especially on a coldstart if you really pay attention to it , you do notice a slight vibration but once you drive it its just as smooth as a 4cylinder

It will turn smooth lng once you run it and since maganda sound deadening nang coolray., you hardly feel it.. I have sat beside an older geely okavango of a friend.. mas grabe yun..

Have you seen the price of the coolray compared to the likes of the honda HRV? This is coming from someone who is currently driving a 2nd gen HRV. Geely is a market disruptor that puts Japanese traditional brands to up their game especially in terms of pricing.
