I was 16 just about to leave school and start an apprenticeship on £27.50 a week. A pint of beer here in Manchester was 43p a pint (yes I could pass for 18 easy) and the music scene was fucking excellent. Plenty of live bands doing all sorts of stuff musically it was fucking excellent!
Paul looks like he is thinking..."What the FUCK am I doing here"...and "Fuck this artificial scene" haha! I love how he is using a Hofner club guitar(a guitar he would just use for miming purposes)...something he would NEVER use live...
Un brano in perfetto stile "mod revivalista", tipico dei Jam... Il singolo è estratto dal quarto album realizzato dalla band di Paul Weller, "Setting Sons", uscito nel 1979...
...and I expect having to watch those artificially over-enthusiastic audience members following orders to perform for the camera was bloody awful for Paul to have to endure.
Paul Weller's pissed because the band is not really playing the song live. They are lip-syncing to a recording. I'd be pissed too. And yes- the audience were told to freak out like that. They aren't really that into it unfortunately.
Boring doing cover versions for most bands now a days... but this was such class and not one most would pick from tunes of the Jam... Quality..all over it...one of my fav`s and running on the spot...
I wonder who's playing the piano in this? Paul & Bruce both are busy with their guitars and the vocals, Rick back there slapping the drums relentlessly like a madman, so where's the back-up bandmates?
Weller looks extra pissed off maybe because the especially chosen dance school audience aren't digging his music they're just over acting to the camera
Paul always gave it 100 % when miming.Boundless enthusiasm !
At least Bruce gave it the old college try!
He wasn't miming!! Bit of a backing track!! But vocals and instruments were live!! He just looked cheesed off!! Maybe wanting to do their own stuff!!
@@davideverett6813 They’re not even plugged in. Of course they’re miming.

Bruce giving it 200%, live or miming, he didn't differ.
That's EXACTLY why we love Bruce...
how to put energy into a room.
So are the ridiculous plastic audience
Great video, my god Paul Weller smiled, briefly, brilliant Ace Face, keep these ''treasures'' a coming!!!!!
1.42 I spotted it too!

Brilliant stuff ace face, you never let this jam fan down...... R.E.S.P.E.C.T.
motown was such a big influence on The Jam
More like the "Who" Were the influence as the Who also covered "Heatwave" In Weller said he was a big fan ?
1of the best cover sony ever
I would indeed be one of these fangirls in 1980
Amazing HD quality

Kris East I think they picked "Heatwave" as a nod to The Who, as they also covered it in their early Mod days.

VHS on EP. Nothing finer 😂
i like the screaming american girls almost as much as i like rick's sax solo that he did entirely with his mouth.

1:02
hysteric
Good Audience though 😁
Check out The Who’s version.....
Trivia question- what singlewas this the b side to. Not released in the UK.
I don’t believe it even made it to a B-side in the UK. It was an A-side in Japan and the US, though.
Saturday's Kids
@@markyjam1 Yes 👍. I’ve got it ,bought it from handy records in 82.
Still got mine too, bought it 1980
@@Mod-rw9cw I used to buy The Jam's US & Japanese imports back in the day, think they were from Adrians records.
1:02 cringy audience, what guitar is Paul playing?
hofner - like the bass - but guitar version..
Weller looks extra pissed off maybe because the especially chosen dance school audience aren't digging his music they're just over acting to the camera
Where's his Rickenbacker? Even the SG looks better than whatever that is.
I think it's a hofner club 40 similar to the one John Lennon used in the early days of the beatles
Americans just didn't get it.......
Thank god they played a song they "could have got" !
Could Paul look more bored ?
