I was around at the time and to be fair Marc Bolan was one of the only established artists who promoted punk, most of them tried to ridicule it because they were frightened it would signal the end of their careers. I've always respected him for that.
Oh my god, this takes me back to summer '77, 14 years old, on holiday in England (I'm from the Netherlands), visiting my nephews in London's Norwood Green and listening to their mini-cassette player, playing The Pistols, the Clash, The Stranglers and.. the Jam.. All Around the World was a fresh hit and it changed me and my life.. Away with prog rock and other shit, the door got opened..:-)
OMG...saw Marc Bolan in Worcester, Mass, US/ back in 1975/1976...so sorry he's not with us any longer...still LOVE the Jam, Style Council and Paul Weller so this brought back lots of memories
It's amazing Weller and Foxton didn't play together and barely spoke for 28 years following the end of the Jam until Wellers dad and Foxton's wife died within a few weeks of each other in 2010. It must have brought home that lifes too short for that kind of shit. This btw is a great record so exciting and innovative back in 1977.
Without question, they were the absolute GREATEST live band I ever saw.....(FWIW, I've also seen Nirvana in 1991, Pearl Jam in 1992, KISS in 1977, U2 in 1981 through 2017, BRUCE! in 1980 & 1985, the La's in 1991, Peter Gabrial in 1983 & 1987, Bad Brains in 1983, The Replacements in 1984, Foo Fighters in a club in 1997, AND The Clash in 1979, 1981, and 1982.....to provide a little context)
The 1st lineup of the Wipers (who Nirvana contributed a cover for a tribute album).. the only life sample is on 10-29-79.. but what a freight train from three mega-talented musicians). Also the Who in '76... As Entwistle said of that tour, "We could have played forever".
been a big fan ever since I got a copy of in the city.THE JAM are captured here in their prime. thank you so much.here in america I could walk 10 feet in any direction and not find a person who's even heard of the JAM. I am a true fan. even back in those days my friends (rock fanatics all), didn't quite get this band..but they're in my top ten 10. RICKENBACKERS ROCK!
I saw these guys at The Glasgow Apollo Theatre just after they released this as a single. When they played this... the audience went WILD... What a band... what a time... what a song...!
@TheGend 'Marc' was a broundbreaking show for many punk/new wave bands. Jis old mate Bowie premiered Heroes on it in 1977. It was one of my favourite prog's.
I remember seeing this live when I was 17 - really powerful energy from Rick, Bruce & Paul. Marc was totally off his face when he introd the boys. Check out Rick dropping a stick at 2:20 - I remember seeing Paul turning round at Rick. Thanks for posting 😃
@@Urlocallordandsavior he said he was glad it happened at the end of the song, and that he has no idea where the stick went because he remembered catching the tip on something and it flying through the air but can’t remember it coming down!
I really love this vid, The Jam sound great , high energy though "tight" and real compact. My fave version of this track. Never knew Marc Bolan had a TV show...
Saw The Jam 30 times and remember making sure I was home from school to watch this. To this day I was so impressed they played live when TOTP was all mimed and I can remember Rick dropping his stick at the end and the look from Paul!!! The best band ever!!
Hi. The six part series was pre-recorded a few weeks before it was aired. Marc was killed halfway through the weekly broadcast - his family decided that the remaining shows be broadcast. I was 12 at the time, and I remember it as a great tragedy.
this was the song that got me into the jam all around the world ive been looking for you brilliant every time i heard this when i saw them live the adrenalin flowed through me great to have been a teenager back then great fun whith all the lads back then
Marc Bolan there, needing prompts to introduce himself (Marc Bolan), the name of the show (named after himself) and also getting the name of the band wrong! Classic!!
I had the studio version of this on vinyl..it was from the Modern World album. Paul Weller used to hang out here in california, pity I never got to see him. Thanks for uploading this....
Paul Weller was about 19 years old here, he was born in '58. They were brilliant, saw them once before they split at the (old Leeds Queens Hall)now a f#@kin carpark?? Early '82 I think?
I had my jam suite made in a shop at the back of carnaby street and that was were all the major band s of the time used to go and get kitted out and the jam to so my suite was made to measure back in 1978 they were the dayzzs
I went a highschool in Phoenix, Arizona in 1979 with 2400 kids. I was the only (hetero) one with singles going steady and village green preservation society. I still listen to 'em almost every day.
Marb Bolan introducing the Jam?!!! This shit kicks ass! A BOMB!!!

He was a mod
@@granto6738 Probably one of the earliest mods to have the newspapers writing about him.
Bolan took The Damned on tour with him 🙂

My mate did a climb up the O2 Arena with him and he was a really top bloke
If ever there was a 70's clip showing the old wave passing the baton over to the new wave, then this is it!
@Steve Mason When YT introduce a wanker emoticon, I'll get back to ya.
@@crowhillian58 LOL, the perfect retort.
Absolutely
Theres no such thing as old wave or new wave its all just rock music
He is just 19 mate... That was fucking awesome.
i'm 39 and i live here in Michigan, been a huge Weller fan since I was 14.....this kicks ass!
A band that sounds the same live as they do on record is a real band. Awesome!
marc bolan took the damned as support in 1977 on tour .always liked him for that
This song still sounds as good as the first time I heard it 45 years ago
The first single I bought. Aged 11. I still LOVE this track. Pure perfect power pop

So cool, I'm 19 and I'm amazed at the songs Weller was writing at the same age as me
One if 'not' the one of the most unheralded of bass players in the world!

Two of the greatest entertainers ever on one show Marc Bolan and The Jam
The only thing better than seeing the Jam in this video is seeing Marc Bolan in such a state.
5 - 7 years before this show that guy was rockin out some pretty cool tunes, look up marc bolan
I had no idea Marc Bolan had a tv show. Great footage. Glam rock introducing the new mod sound.

First Jam record I bought.
Brilliant single.
Still got my Jam shoes from Shelleys in Kings Road circa 1979.
One of the coolest bands ever 🔥🔥🔥
The Jam should have done way more with Paul and Bruce sharing the actual lead vocals like this. What an amazing band.

Marc Bolan's intro is the icing on this cake of a great Jam performance.
the fact that Bolan in his teens was a Mod, he must have felt nostalgic with The Jam and their looks x
No distortion is The BEST!
'The Jam'
Anyway total 🔥🔥🔥
Genius. Light years ahead of everyone else. love.
Quoi..WHAT!?!! The Jam on The Marc Bolan Show?! now I have seen everything,..Cool, that is! peace, Regan
Cool, just like the man. R
Bolan died not long after
I'm a Tyrannosaurus rex and the jam fan, never thought I'd find this, great raw sound from the jam, not what ole Marc was generating in those years 😕
Nice video, and those Rickenbackers produce such a classic sound...never get bored of a Ric'
my favorite Jam song!

My dad has that same Rickenbacker Bass... I love playing it!
Right there. That's the guitarist I've aspired to for over 35 years now. F*ckin' genius!
Rick Buckler’s book brought me here. He talks about the stick drop at the end, lol!!
What did he say about that?

its weird by the 70s the rock n roll music of the 50s sounded kinda old ht, but even in 2010 this music still sounds great
Possibly one of the only live performances on that show called Marc.
Loads of artists got to perform live on this show including Eddie and the Hot Rods!
What a gem! Thanks for the posting!
This is one of my favourite Jam tunes. Loved this all the way from Marc's intro to the cartoon peeps at the end. Thanks for sharing this.
