The thing i love about the Despicable Me movies is there are Vilians, But no heroes. You'd think a world full of vilians would inspire people to rise up and fight back. Kind of like the world of John Wick

4:15 the creators of Despicable Me have actually said that the Jawas from Star Wars were one of the inspirations behind the minion character design.
AGNES is so amazing... she makes me emotional... when she offers her piggy bank... In despicable me 2, when gru is super sad, she comes to him and says "how can I help you".... that scene just makes me cry everytime... she is my most fav

Such a great film. The first two Despicable Me was a breath of fresh air, absolutely hilarious, fun and fresh, and the film that shot Illumination to the animated studios upper rank. Sure, most of their films after would be mediocre at best, but their first try, is an absolute gem.
Minions 2 was surprisingly enjoyable tbh. The way people dressed up in the suits so much it became a meme, shows the continuing iconography of this franchise. Sure they're not as good anymore but they're still a fun watch tbh.

Despicable Me 3 was also pretty good, Minions was good and the sequel was even better, same case with Sing 1 and 2, The Secret Life of Pets 1 and 2 were pretty entertaining and The Super Mario Bros. was great, so I don't know what are you talking about.

Cute and wonderfully inventive
I heard that this movie was very good, and after seeing seeing it myself, I have to say I heartily concur. While not my favourite film of the year, and the film never tries to be that, Despicable Me is cute and wonderfully inventive. While it could have been a little longer, what made Despicable Me work was a number of things. The animation for starters is stunning, I liked the colours and character designs but it was the backgrounds and retro-futurist design that blew me away, while the gadgetry is ingenious.
The music fits very well with the film and is memorable without being overly ambitious or simplistic, the story is ceaselessly inventive and fast paced with a surprisingly clever subplot about the importance of family. The characters also add a lot, Gru is wonderfully zany especially and I found it impossible not to fall in love with his minions, they are so cute. But my favourite assets of Despicable Me are the humour and the voice cast. The writing is just excellent, it was so funny and incredibly smart without feeling too much, while the voice work is exemplary especially from Steve Carell whose brilliant vocals add a lot to the film's success.
Overall, a truly great film with a lot to like. 9/10 Bethany Cox

The "reach/measuring contest" was specifically for 3D viewers. Also, not a huge deal in the States, but in South America, the minions have become a symbol of authoritarianism.

Have to say who did the editing usually does a good job showing parts that are iconic. This one skipped over a lot. It's so fluffy for instance or the minions shopping for the baboy. Bummed unfortunately can't afford patron would love to see all of the reactions

I'd suggest for your consideration viewing 'Megamind' . It was a supervillain animated movie that came out about the same time as 'Despicable Me', only to get rather overshadowed by it. But it is entertaining and very well done - brilliant job of subverting classic superhero / supervillain tropes.

The second movie is my fav but I love this movie too, the movies after the 2nd one in my opinion fell off but that’s just me. So glad u guys are experiencing these movies, I remember being a little kid watching these movies religiously🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, this movie was utterly spectacular in pretty much every possible aspect. The second movie was rather enjoyable as well, but then things started going downhill as every big franchise ends up going. The first two movies were all the original ideas they had for this property and after the second they started going over the same points with different characters. The Minions spinoff was interesting in how it reached such absurdity and bought it all back down by the end of the movie.
What I'm saying is that your milage may vary. There are some bangers and a lot of clangers, just like any major franchise.
Thankfully Illumination still know how to make good movies as shown by the Super Mario Bros movie. And whoever handles casting for Illumation is a bloody genius because they always seem to find the perfect voice for every role.
Can't wait for next sequel reaction!!!
