  • AutoX has opened its fully driverless RoboTaxi pilot program to the public in Shenzhen. This marks the first time that the general public will be able to book a completely autonomous RoboTaxi without accompanying safety drivers in Asia.
    This video shows how the fully driverless RoboTaxi operates from a passenger’s perspective. The vehicle runs on regular public roads in the city, takes unprotected left turns at busy intersections, makes side passes on streets, deals with a scooter running traffic lights, and more.

    About AutoX:
    AutoX is a leading RoboCar company in the world, with the mission of ‘Democratizing Autonomy’ to accelerate the advent of fully driverless cars. It was founded in 2016 by Dr. Jianxiong Xiao (a.k.a. Professor X), a self-driving technologist from MIT and Princeton. The company’s self-driving platform is known to be capable of handling the most challenging and dynamic traffic scenarios in urban cities around the world. AutoX is the first and currently only company operating a fully driverless RoboTaxi service on public roads in an asian city without safety drivers. AutoX is also the second company to obtain California DMV’s completely driverless RoboTaxi permit. AutoX has deployed over 1,000 RoboCars in Shenzhen, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Beijing, and other cities. In January 2021, AutoX launched the world’s second fully driverless RoboTaxi service that is open to the public. AutoX has 10 operations centers, 5 R&D centers, and over 1,000 technical team members globally.

    • @bobwallace9753
      @bobwallace9753 Před 3 lety

      The question is 'how much will that ride cost'?
      First, in the US it costs about $100,000 per year to keep drivers in taxicab 18 hours a day, 365 days a year. That cost goes away with robotaxis.
      To put that in perspective, a $25k ICEV taxi might be useful for three years, so something like $8k per year compared to $100k.
      Second, as we move from ICEVs to EVs we'll experience a sweet cost decline. Not has large as eliminating the cost of a driver but it will still be a significant cost decrease.
      Early on there are a lot of start up costs which will go away as the industry scales.

      i understand your comment is 2 months old but ...if this system is similar to the Waymo Driverless Taxi's in Arizona..if the car has a problem or gets stuck or has a tech problem...a response team can send out a driver to take over i.e. switch the car from automatic to manual ...then the human driver can drive and finish the trip...One of the issues with Waymo is heavy rain the car has problems..So a human driver is sent out and take over..
      There is an excellent channel on YT of a guy that films his rides in Waymo Driverless Taxis: czcams.com/users/j3rsdm5
