A Towing Adventure: Beautiful Boat Breaks Down for Second Time in Over a Year | Tow 36ft Hinckley

  • I towed this beautiful Hinckley almost exactly a year ago when the steering went out on it. This time around, it is the cooling system that needs some work. Regardless, this is probably one of the most beautiful boats I have towed and the owners are super nice as well! Besides the boat looking great, one of the best features I think is that it has a jet drive propulsion system, which allows this 36ft boat to draw only 18in. That’s less than my towboat draws when towing and the same as my shallowest operating depth with my engines trimmed all the way up!

    Hey everyone! Welcome back to the channel. Today, I've got an exciting update for you. Almost exactly a year ago, I towed this beautiful Hinckley when its steering went out. This time around, the cooling system needs some work. Despite these issues, this Hinckley remains one of the most beautiful boats I've had the pleasure of towing, and the owners are incredibly nice people.
    This boat isn't just a looker; it's packed with impressive features. One of the standout aspects of this 36ft Hinckley is its jet drive propulsion system. This allows the boat to draw only 18 inches of water! That's less than my towboat when I'm towing and the same as my shallowest operating depth with my engines trimmed all the way up. It's amazing how such a large and luxurious vessel can navigate shallow waters so effortlessly.
    In this video, I'll take you through the process of towing this magnificent Hinckley, discuss the issues it's facing, and highlight what makes it such a standout vessel. From its sleek design to its advanced propulsion system, this boat truly is a marvel.
    Whether you're a boating enthusiast or just love seeing beautiful boats in action, you're in for a treat. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the video. And don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more boating adventures and towing stories!

    I use you and your adventures on the job as an example to young men; do a fun job. Look around at the possibilities. Interesting outdoor work, same thing only different every day. Fresh air, bit of danger, lots of responsibility, Thanks from those your aid. And then you've branched out and are providing wonderfully entertaining video content. Family quality too! @@chiphill4856 You can pick up a used on from the 1990s for between the low 200K to around mid 300Ks. Not an inexpensive way to enjoy the water. But if you have the means, I could think of worst things to own.
      The maintenance fees are going to be eye watering even by boat standards. On the plus side you'll probably be the only one with one in the marina.

    I sometimes have that problem with the line, but usually it's because the wind blows my sailboat that way and I need to rethink things as I go all the time.

  • @searay260sundeckforsale4

    Gorgeous boat! On the other hand, the shallow draft affects how a boat handles rough conditions.. Always pros and cons :)

    • @CaptKenO
      @CaptKenO  Před 4 dny +1

      Depends more on the hull design...but for something like this, it only draws 18in because it doesn't have a prop and rudder hanging below the hull (or have a deep keel) as would be typical for this style boat. Seeing as this boat is design by a company in the northeast, I would actually bet it handles rougher seas pretty good

    • @searay260sundeckforsale4
      @searay260sundeckforsale4 Před 3 dny

      @@CaptKenO From my personal observation, the deeper draft makes a boat sit in the water more firm / deeper which positively affects its ride in rough water.. That applies to my boats - the best riding one is my Formula with the 22 degree deadrise and 37 inch draft. But I never rode the jet boat and only assumed it would not have much to hold onto the water because of the jets, almost like a jetski jumping, but I don't have experience with this particular boat

    • @chiphill4856
      @chiphill4856 Před 3 dny +1

      A formula is made to run wide open offshore. This is a picnic boat, made for day trips, picnics, overnight within sheltered waters. Believe me it handles great. One of the first boats to have a joystick. Twin yanmar diesel jet drives and a bow thruster combine for great control. It is particularly well suited for its application. A prized possession for anyone.

    Great job. No worries with the mistake. If you never mess up, you "Aren't" doing anything. Hard to believe the cooling system had an issue, the Yanmar power system is pretty reliable. I believe that has the Hamilton Jet-Drive system.

      @CaptKenO  Před 4 dny

    Interesting one Cap. Surprised a boat like that, and it appears to be heavy has a jet drive. It could have been purposely build with such a low draft, and I dont what he has for power, but they generally suck a ton of fuel. We see them here in rivers often with low water...

    • @CaptKenO
      @CaptKenO  Před 4 dny +1

      Thanks Vancity! Jet drives are used on some really big and heavy boats for high speed and/or shallow operating conditions. Definitely not as fuel efficient as a prop though

    You use those shift levers more in one day than the average pleasure boater in a year. Are the shifters a high maintenance item or are they a special kind of commercial shifter?

    • @CaptKenO
      @CaptKenO  Před 6 dny

      Hahaha. That we do!
