It's an instant tell the "captains" are inexperienced when I see boats navigating the inlet with fenders out. It's like stepping out of the house with one's zipper down.

I live waterfront on a channel outbound from a public ramp. I’ve got a pile of fenders stacked like cordwood. All from departing boats!

Or going a half mile while wearing a seatbelt. Damn overly cautious boaters!

The fact that a pontoon boat is even considering going out there is an indication of how tame and calm Haulover is.

Those Magnum 50 “The Beast” are incredible offshore boats, 70knots with surface drives, in the miami to nassau race some years it was the only boat capable of handling the sea conditions

Before you go out to sea it’s important to check things are secure, the anchor is something that should be kept secure as you don’t know when you will need it, especially if the engine develops a fault and you need to stop the boat from drifting.
Fortunately in this case it was lost and did not damage anything. A radio is always recommended as it might be the only way to alert the coastguard.

It’s definitely a Ranger Tug R-31 CB. The RT decal can be seen midship. I have an R-29 CB. They’re really more of a hybrid than a trawler as they can semi-plane for a faster cruising speed of 16 knots. Mine will do 20 knots WOT. They have diesel engines.

I have been shopping for liveaboards for a while, while intending to do the ICW at first. In my research, I learned the Ranger Tug is one of the most popular ICW boats now - right along with 40' Carvers. You can see how it handles the rough water, and the ability to get up on plane to avoid weather makes this a very capable pocket cruiser.

Our R31 CB, Loon Ranger, is a brilliant vessel but I never, ever thought I'd see one tackle Haulover . 😮😮😮 That was a real treat to see! Especially since it beat it!

@@richstiner7404 I purchased a new Ranger Tug R-31 CB in 2021 after doing a tremendous amount of research. I absolutely love the boat. I accompanied the delivery captain on the trip from Salem MA to Stamford CT. On the first day, we got really beat up with 5' + waves and heavy winds on the nose. The boat never missed a beat and handled really snotty conditions a lot better than I did. After several seasons of boating in Long Island Sound, coastal CT, RI, and MA, I can honestly say I am very happy with my purchase.

The catamaran stuffing it reminds me of the ship I used to work on. Nothing like stuffing the bow at 40 knots and seeing green water half way down the side of the ship several decks above the waterline.

For something that looks like it has the handling characteristics of a mattress it always surprises me how well the pontoon boats cope given the tough time the more boat-shaped vessels seem to often have.

The outflowing current is absolutely AMAZING to witness the strength...What I am curious about is there has to be tons of sand flowing in and out as well...mix in the Tides, the traffic-particularly the large quad vessels...I would love to see a professional produce a current flow schematic because I bet 5-10 ft of depth the currents are being churned a lot as it flows out and in....there is a video on CZcams where someone did the current schematic discussing the infamous ESCAPE FROM ALCATRAZ of the San Francisco Bay...and I was shocked at the speed of the water exiting the Bay after midnight with a New Moon (no moon) compared to sunset and sunrise and all of the whirlpools, etc that are caused below the surface and on the surface....Haulover I read is only about 14-15ft deep....Even so, with so much shifting sand I assume that is monitored at least weekly....
DO YOU GUYS KNOW IF THERE IS DEVIATION OF CURRENT FLOW BELOW THE SURFACE AND WHETHER OT NOT THE INLET IS DREDGED???

  • @humbleevidenceaccepter7712

In Michigan, pontoon boats are great fun on inland lakes, but not on the Big Lakes. Can't imagine taking one out at Haulover where some of the waves are even bigger.

I'm giving them a win as no gear was lost & the boat made it in. Not Stuffing a toon in those conditions is nearly impossible to do .
