Sabaton is Swedish, but the song is about Italian history. And you're correct that Joakim Broden, the lead singer of Sabaton, made a guest appearance in Pasadena 1994.
This song is about the Sack of Rome in 1527 by an Austrian army. The Swiss Guard (which had only been founded 21 years before) was almost wiped out defending the Pope.
To honor their sacrifice, new recruits are sworn into the Swiss Guard on May 6th every year (the anniversary of the Sack of Rome).

wrong it wasnt an austrian army it was a mercenary army who didnt get paid by karl the great and the pope send his army to spain to support em so the mercenarys said rome is unprotected and we can get the gold there.

Nanowar is known for getting the singers of the bands they parody to make guest appearances. So Joakim Broden from Sabaton performed in Pasadena 1994, Angus McFife from Gloryhammer did Valhallelujah, Madelline llilljestam from Eiline did Winter Storm in the Night, etc.

The bass has the Swedish flag over the entire body. Should be a hint. ;)
Tre kronor (three crowns) is the national emblem of Sweden which also can be seen on the body.
    Current band members:
Joakim Brodén (lead singer, original member 1999).
Pär Sundström (bass, original member 1999).
Christoffer "Chris" Rörland (guitar, joined 2012).

Nanowar of Steel did a cooperation with Joakim, the singer of Sabaton, for Pasadena 1994. They are a parody metal band and yes, they parodied Sabaton, and Sabatons singer was all with them in that. I guess he had fun. :D Sabaton are Swedish, Nanowar are Italian.

Sabaton is a Swedish heavy metal band, formed in 1999 and are still going strong. All their songs are about history, mainly military history.
Their singer, Joakim was a guest performer for Nanowar of Steel in Pasadena 1994, and Nanowar made it like a Sabaton song.
The bass you were so excited about is an ESP LTD F series, and the happy bass player is Pär Sundström, bass player and manager of Sabaton.
    The other band members are:
    Joakim Brodén - singer
    Hannes Van Dahl - drums
    Pär Sundström - bass
    Tommy Johansson - guitar
    Chris Rörland - guitar

This is the Sabaton song I thought of when I heard Nanowar of Steel's Pasadena 1994.
I am interested that the 1527 Sack of Rome by the Holy Roman Empire's mercenary troops isn't a big deal to you.
I learnt about it in Britain because the Emperor was the English Queen of the time's nephew so Henry VIII of England couldn't get a divorce, pushing him into the protestant camp.
Also it marks the end of the high Renaissance.
“Ne è un chiaro esempio l'evoluzione dello stesso Michelangelo Buonarroti, che nel 1508-1512 aveva dipinto la volta della Cappella Sistina con raffigurazioni bibliche, e che tornò nello stesso luogo nel 1536-1541 con l'ammonitorio Giudizio Universale.“ from Wikipedia.

So this is about the sacking of rome in 1527 by the Habsburg army after the army got over the walls of rome they started to sacking the city killing, looting, and assaulting the people once they made it to the Vatican City the pope had to escape to a nearby fort to ensure his safety. The pope was guarded by his 189 Swiss guard on the guard had to ensure the pope got to safety at all costs so they formed a wall of halberds and made a last stand while the pope could get away. Each of the Swiss guards fought to their death in the name of their religion and beliefs. The handful of guards who went with the pope turned around and continued to hold the line once the pope was in the fort.

There music is heavy metal down to a softer metal and are the best band in the world. They sing songs about history especially military history and true stories about events in military history, also true stories about unsung and well known heroes from WW1, WW2, Vietnam War, Anglo / Zulu War etc. Many military Veterans from here in the UK, Eastern and Western Europe, American military Veterans etc etc are fans of their's. Tommy johansson the guitarist has done really good metal covers of Sara perhe ti amo and 883 :s Una canzone damour .. he even sings it in Italian ( he is Swedish .. but many Italian persons commend him on his pronunciation .. he did have an Italian girlfriend at one time ) you will not regret checking it out!!!
