My god! Such a moving and beautiful piece, like a giant, gentle but wounded.
This piece should go on stage more and give Elgar a break.

Myaskovsky's Cello Concerto is one of the finest concertos ever written. It is autumnal, nostalgic and deeply expressive. Few other compositions comunicate with such personal intensity.

nostalgic - Not a good word. It was written during the Big War...

Jeremy Norris No, you are wrong. It is just bitterness and regrets about the losses of Russian people. And please stop argue about 'Stalin and Hitler' when speaking about Myaskovsky's works. It is too flat and primitive ))

@@Queeen7q No, you are wrong. I would hate to see your brain run hard into Jeremy Norris's brain -- your brain would be crushed.

Echt super!

Rostrpovich recorded Myaskovsky's masterpiece with N. Faktorovich (1956), with Sir Malcolm Sargent (1958) and with Yevgeny Svetlanov. This one with Kondrashin is new to me, but I think it 's the best.

I feel like I'm standing in front of a buffet, after having eaten 3 plates. I know the stuff I haven't tried is really good, but I'm completely full. Bach, Handel, Scarlatti, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Berlioz, Wagner, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Stravinsky, Stockhausen, my own faint efforts at composing.... when will I be able to understand all there is?
And look at all the names I left out.
We have no grounds for complaints. Bach alone satisfies.

Would tend to agree with Mr. Norris’s sentiments, this is a lovely concerto, lacking in my view a little more contrast. Why do cellist not feature it I wonder, not extrovert enough perhaps?

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could send me(or direct me to somewhere I can get) the score, particularly for the first movement(but I'll take either)? I have the solo cello part but I want to use this for my orchestra's concerto competition next year and I can't do that without the complete version, so if anyone is willing to help me that would be great

The cello part and a piano reduction are on IMSLP, though it is not believed to be public domain in the United States: imslp.org/wiki/Cello_Concerto%2C_Op.66_(Myaskovsky%2C_Nikolay)
