VIDEO DESCRIPTION
I visit Miles Lukas from breath.fitness to train BJJ, do a breath-work session, then take a plunge in a 36 degree ice bath.
I do just the opposite. I try to breathe only with my nose. This forces me to slow down, and lets me never get exhausted.
That's perfect! Learning to breathe with mostly nose breathing is a piece of the puzzle. Another piece is learning to create an energy reserve for when you have to significantly exert to move or escape a monster. Recovering from exhaustion quickly while still having to continue or if you've been accidentally holding your breath is also a massive piece. Congratulations on never getting exhausted. You must be elite.
I'm 73, been training in BJJ for two months, 41 training days. Was told that I needed to control my breathing, that I was breathing too hard. I've always felt you need to stay ahead of the power curve with respect to this. I do deep breathing before I shoot competitively which I have always been told helps your vision, should be the same helping oxygenate your muscles.
Excellent job starting BJJ! Much respect. If your body is forcing you to breathe very heavily, then you potentially got behind. If you take a few forceful exhales and you can slow it down on command, then you're demonstrating good breath control. Nose breathing and a little air hunger are useful but then you step it up according to the situation. Best wishes. Stay the course, sir!
Thanks for visiting! Next you can tell us to stfu while you’re filming! Lol. Sorry for all that background chatter.
Great job! Keeping your hands out is a game changer and makes it a lot easier to endure.
So cool! Incredible how his heart rate dropped like that. I'm a believer. Breath is so basic, yet most of us disregard its importance. Great video.
There is a book, “ Breath, the modern science of the ancient art of breathing “, by James Nestor. That book should be read by every martial artist out there, it will blow your mind
Hey Rick!
just wanted to let you know how motivating and inspiring you and your videos are!
I am 25, material scientist from germany, started BJJ this year and have to pause because of a shoulder inflammation.
You are super sympathetic and authentic! Would love to meet you one day!
Keep doing what you do.
Best, Jan
Yo, ich bin auch aus Deutschland und pausiere zur Zeit mein BJJ wegen einer kleinen Schulterverletzung :D
Sobald die Schulter geheilt ist, gehts weiter! Oss!
@@thegammgamm2744 wie lustig ist das denn! Aus welcher Ecke Deutschlands bist du? Alles Gute!
Thank you so much!
@@jann.9471 Haha ja echt krass. Danke, dir auch! Ich bin aus der Nähe von Karlsruhe. DU?
@thegammgamm2744 Komme aus der Nähe von Nürnberg!
My joints say I need the ice bath but IDK, I've gotta work on that breathing first.
Your joints will thank you. The mobility and instant lack of stiffness after hopping out of an ice bath is magic too!

Awesome!
Brofessor!!
🔥
I love it. Nothing to add, my only question is what’s the title of the background piano music towards the end?
The song is called Wishes, by Lane King.
@@TheArtofSkill thank you so much, sir!
