    I am 68 yrs old now; 5'8, started Jiu-Jitsu last week of December 2022; was 68kg. started to cut my food consumption, bought a blender and mixing fruits as my meal; I run 3 times a week, push ups, pull ups and doing my abs workout everyday; now I'm 60kg. got promoted to white belt 3 stripes and still trying to do Jiu-Jitsu training 5 days a week for 2.5hrs a day.

    I think it's crazy that so many of us are discovering similar truths at similar times. I hope that you keep sharing more about your fasting journey. So much of what you shared mirrors my own experience. I started carnivore last year in July. It absolutely changed my life. I'm 50 now and the list of ailments that went away was incredibly long. I lost 45 lbs. I feel like I'm 25. I incorporated weekly 48 hour fasts into my routine as well. A month ago I started jiu jitsu which based on how I felt a year ago... well, it was beyond my wildest dreams to be able to do such a thing. That's not hyperbole. I have noticed when the inflammation is gone from my body, I recover quickly and hardly get sore. Instead of getting "old man" sore where you get more and more sore for several days, I feel a little sore the next day but it's more like "young man" sore which is more like a 24 hour cycle. At any rate, thank you for sharing. I'll be doing this for the rest of my life as well.

    Great stuff, Rick! There's always been misinformation and resistance on ketosis and fasting. It usually takes a sports platform to verify these new age ideas. A BJJ practitioner like yourself is a great spokesperson. I hope in about 5 years, if not sooner, this stuff will be common knowledge and widely accepted.

    fasting also denies the physical body (i call it the rubbersuit) which allows some of us to wake up and see our true-self, our spiritual body. we are spiritual beings going thru a human experience, not human beings seeking spirituality 😍

    Jordan Peterson has a great podcast with Dr. Chris Palmer about this. I highly recommend it. The general gist was that Keto and Carnivore diets simulate fasting which tricks the body into thinking it’s on a fast.

    • @TheArtofSkill
      @TheArtofSkill  Před 2 měsíci

      It doesn't trick the body, you're just not giving it carbs, ergo no glucose is made. There's a major difference, though. You don't get autophagy and other benefits of a true fast if you're eating.

      @TheArtofSkill  Před 2 měsíci

      I feel very energetic during fasts (once I get to about hour 36 or so). It takes much energy to digest food. Eliminate that and your body can use that energy for other things.

    I did my first prolonged fast a few weeks ago. Went 7 days and really enjoyed it. Wanted to go longer but just ended it at day 7. I did another 3 day fast within 4 days of that but after 72 hours hadn’t lost any weight. I assume my metabolism had just stopped. Have you had anything similar when going back to back like that. And how often do you perfom your favorite fasting method ?Thanks in advance.

      I don't have a definitive answer yet because I'm still experimenting with some different lengths. My first 4 fasts were 36 hours each, and I did them once a week for 4 weeks. I like that protocol because it's pretty easy if you’re just getting started and you definitely get some benefits from it. Dropped 10 pounds in a month doing that.
      But you're right, the longer ones give you more of the benefits, but you need to space them out more. I did a 4 day fast earlier this week, so I probably won't do another one for a few weeks. Still learning about this myself so I don’t have a solid answer for you.

    • @robcubed9557
      @robcubed9557 Před 2 měsíci +1

      My understanding is that the benefits of fasting come from caloric restriction during certain times. So as long as you’re not consuming calories, you should be fine.
      There is also dry-fasting (no fluids or food) which is apparently more potent but cannot be done for as long of an intervals as “wet fasting” (water and tea permitted but no food) due to risk of dehydration.

    There is little evidence that longevity is increased in humans like it is in rodents.There is also no solid evidence that fasting has any beneficial effects over and above calorie restriction that it results in, and that include the much hyped autophagy. Autophagy is happening all the time, eating or not. Fasting increases it for sure but once you stop fasting, then it goes back to normal. If you just cut cals, the autophagy rises but not to quite the same level but then it doesn't drop off so fast either. In the end, it works out the same. If fasting helps you keep a healthy weight and you like how it makes you feel then that's great. Personally ketosis makes me feel dreadful and makes my breath smell.
